I bought this for my dad back at christmas. He loved the ship, but the stand has no weight to it at all. I ended up having to get a thick bit of wood, cut it to the shape of the stand, smooth it, and glue it to the base. This largely stopped the falling over issue.
I have a playmates Voyager and Defiant from the 90's and those bases are so steady. This is a weird step backward. The footprint is all wrong. That's a great idea to use wood like that! I'll have to see what I can do. Thank you for that.
I got the same one and repainted certain features on. (Repainted the Busard collecters ,deflector dish ,painted the thrusters red on back of suacer section and repainted the engine lights to give it more of the standard blue engine glow .... I got some puddy to match the ships paint as well to fill in the screw holes.
Diamond Select lost the license so they may not be able to release the Enterprise C at all. They put it out as a gold painted, non light up version for the SDCC a couple years ago that folks are trying to flip for thousands of dollars, but then lost the license. They were also hip deep in making the USS Reliant. It's unfortunate because The C is the only one (Up through the E) that's been missing. They had the ship displayed at one of the comic cons several years ago. It looked great. As usual, us ship collectors are in limbo, unless you're really good at putting together models.

I collected those back in the 90's. I wasn't aware that new ones are being made. Glad this came up on my feed. I hope they will make my favorite Trek race's ships. Romulans!!
Two issues I have found with this particular model is the Nells where they connect to the ship. Sometimes you gotta play with it moving around a bit to get the lights on in the sales to work properly, or to be bright on side or the other, because when I first put a sales on the ship, one side was bright the other side didn’t work so I had to take it back out, plug it back and move it around a bit and then it worked. Then the other issue I have found, is I bought two of these one we were getting ready to take out the batteries unscrewed the bat door and the area or plug or whatever you wanna call it that the screw plugs in that screws into just fell out into the ship and now you cannot put on the battery door so if you take the screw out be very careful not to turn it too tight either way because that piece that the screws screws into may just fall out into your ship and I don’t know if it could be taken apart where you can fix that or not if somebody happens to know this, please let me know Greatly appreciate it and by the way, I do like this ship thank goodness I bought two of them and I also have everyone of the old playmates Star Trek ships as well
I got one of these last year at Christmas for myself. She's a really cool ship and the sound effects are much better than the 90's Playmates version (which I also have).
I think you gave a fair review and for many this may be a great option to have. Someone I know has one and I got to see it in person a few weeks ago. They bought it at Wal-mart on clearance for ~$25.00. That being said, I am so happy that I was able to get in on the preorder of the new Tomy limited-edition release of their three foot metal version that was marketed to serious collectors. It's $600.00, but I think that's a steal for what it is.
I got mine several weeks ago I like it a lot some of the cons are the stand needs to be better, and not a fan of all the screw holes down the side of the engine nacelles other then that i think it is great.
When you get a Playmates ship, you marvel at the screw holes. So...many....holes... But after a time I'm able to see past them. At least the majority are under the ship.
It's very sturdy. The display stand is the only real issue. And the SFX board is really great actually, they've come a long way. Though I do still go "woosh" when I fly the toys to put them away.

I have the old Playmates Enterprise from the 90's, it clearly looks like they based theirs off the old AMT model kits. So much so that I didn't finish the AMT kit I was working on at the time because the Playmates ship was better than what I was doing. The new one it looks like they went to the trouble of making it from scratch. I wish they had covered the screw holes and painted the impulse engine. Other than that, it looks like what it is-- a nice solid toy you can play with. If that had come out in the 70's I would have been thrilled. I love my Art Asylum/DST "Hi-def" Enterprise, but it seems more like a pre-built model than a toy. Both have their charms.
I completely agree! I have this new version and the 1990's version and I definitely like the 1990's version better. It's got a sturdier/better looking stand, far less screw holes showing and the impulse engine section (and the ends of each nacelle) are painted. I was hoping this new version would be an improvement over the 1990's version but IMO, it isn't. It's not bad though. The one thing they did better on this version is the protrusion on the deflector dish ... it's longer and has the ball on the end.
For as nice as it is, Playmates never misses an opportunity not to go the extra step to make it even better. There are numerous ways they could have hidden the buttons instead of having them sitting there in plain sight. Many years ago, I bought their classic communicator and instead of having a snap-on belt clip, they molded one right to the back, ensuring that you can't set it down properly. And the sound for opening the grill was manually triggered by a button on the side when they could have easily made it internal and automatically triggered by opening the grill. They do a nice job in some areas and then completely drop the ball in others. It's like there's some rule that if a toy/replica/collectible is under a certain dollar value, they have to cut corners even if it wouldn't cost any more to go the extra step.
My best friend had that communicator you’re talking about! Their ship designs are all over the place. That’s so true. The DS9 Station they made is like the top of their toy making game.
The bridge should glow with the same intensity that the emitter does. If it doesn't, you can likely take the saucer apart and find it's just a loose connection. (source: I have one too.)
My Diamond Select stands were falling over so I put a little floor wax in the ball joint after putting it on the ship. It stiffened them so they stay put.
Thanks for the look at this version of the Enterprise. I never thought to look at toys or model kits when Amazon was doing its Prime Days sale. I'll have to keep that in mind for next time.
My dad has a mettle one of these from the 70/80s with a shuttle pod in the bottom of the ship and could launch mettle discs probably worth a few penny's now
Diamond Select had a digital model of the Reliant they put out years ago before losing the Trek license to show that they were working on it. I’m with ya, I’d love a Reliant.
I'm a huge Diamond Select collector, with a few playmates mixed in. It looks like playmates may have changed the color to a subtle grey as I seem to remember the New Playmates Enterprise initially came out looking almost white. Anyone else notice this? Looks like they blew it on the impulse engines as well. I think it was toned down on the original release of this playmates Enterprise.
My biggest complaint is the huge screw holes all over the bottom. Also the stand isn't as stable as the diamond select versions. Oh well, those DS ones are crazy expensive these days...
I'm always surprised at the lack of critique in the accuracy of these models and toys. From the deep black windows that stand out like polka dots, to the beige sensor dish, when gold paint has been available for 100 years...or the silver impulse engine that should be the same color as the hull...the neon orange bussard collector...there's so much wrong with this ship that could have been easily corrected with color choices.
I own several Playmates toys from the 90's. They're a cartoon representation. I can critique how the lights in the bussard collectors don't rotate, the color of the deflector, the proportions and the fact that the impulse engines are incorrectly colored (I did, in fact) or I can highlight what I enjoy. Anyone can complain about accuracy, and have. I'm just enjoying the ship.

I've been seeing this at Wal-Mart and Target. I've been super tempted to buy it for about a year. This and the phaser I've been seeing. The only one I have right now is the 2024 Abrams movie Enterprise. When I was a kid, I had the battle damage Generations Enterprise D, the transforming Enterprise D, the die-cast saucer separating Enterprise D, and the regular TNG type 2 shuttle that fit the action figures. I have no idea why, but I painted my die-cast Enterprise black. I guess I just thought that it looked cool. I actually had the old TOS Enterprise in the shopping when I bought the battle damage Enterprise D, but my dad said that I could only get one. With Generations still fresh in theaters the damage D won out. I later regretted the choice.
I just got this playmates one too! I got it at a Con in July and love it. Its really my first ship i have to display. What are the two Enterprises in the back? As in who made them and such to find them online
Those are from Diamond Select/Art Asylum and they will pop up on eBay every so often. One is the “HD” version and the other is from “The Cage” pilot episode.
It looks ok. I probably won't get it, as I like things to be as screen accurate as possible. But if you're after a toy that's meant to be played with, rather than a model to display on a shelf, this would fit the bill, I think.
I know what I would love to see a comparison of, but unless Playmates reissues/remakes it in the Star Trek Universe toyline, or unless someone still has their copy from days of long ago, I don't think that there'll ever be a comparison between the Playmates 2022 Enterprise-01 and the Playmates Enterprise-D from 1994's Star Trek Generations (which I think was an update to their clean Enterprise-D for TNG). Like just how large is this behemoth compared to their other older stuff? Great review. I'm probably gonna have to scour the internet to get this, as I've NEVER seen this in stores - the last toy of the Enterprise I saw in stores was Walmart having the Kelvin Enterprise-01 when Star Trek 2009 hit theaters. Kinda shocked that Playmates didn't retool it into the Enterprise-A from the end of 2016's Star Trek Beyond (so what if it'd be a huge spoiler??). But yeah...that there's a whopping 14 years without an Enterprise in stores...
Some are allergic to Amazon, which I do not blame them for at all, but I purchased mine there and it's still sitting at 20% off, if you are interested! Thank you for your encouragement! www.amazon.com/dp/B09RQ8VK25?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
I picked this Enterprise up some months back at Walmart. I absolutely love it. But there is one complaint that I have. The stand is pretty feeble and doesn't hold the Enterprise up all that well, even when adjusting; the ship is just too heavy. PM should have gone with a more sturdier stand, like the stands they made for Star Trek ships during the 1990s. Other than that, as I said, I love my classic TOS Enterprise.
You got a broken 1. Mine lights up on top. Buddy. Return it. And look at the paper, that came with it. 1st. Button does 2 sounds the other 2 3 each. Mine is darker. It's China buddy
i hate 2 spoil the party, but just be aware that all the stickers will become slightly yellow over the coming decades ... speakin now from my own experience with the old playmates collection. but for 25 bucks i would got this one for sure as well !
Warp nacelle forward lights should be red, not orange, - could have made them twinkle or flash in a clockwise rotation, impulse should be red as well, one sound effect sounds like it's from TNG, port and starboard lights flashed in the series.
I bought mine on Amazon. Big Bad Toy Store is another place I buy my toys from. It’s in stock on there too if you’re interested. www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/193653?o=4
@@Terminus_El_Camino i saw several for say at the local Walmart for like $30 USD they also had figures of Kirk Spock and Khan, i got them all but upon closer inspection the likenesses arent that good.
..uuuggghhh why are they still making them with the ridges on the saucer section like the old amt model kits? I can't recall way when they reissued it, the lines were there but not on the rare, collectable original. Now it seems all the toys are made that way. The primary hull had the slightest indication of pieces where the enterprise was constructed but never raised ridges. But otherwise, it's a nice toy
That is a heck of a lot of screwholes compared to the original release that had virtually none. I'm not a fan of the back of the nacelles lighting up since it's not accurate to the show. It reminds me of some of the Gold Key comics when the artist used to draw flames shooting out the back of them like a rocket. Sound effects on the original has more playability, Red Alert, Phasers, Photon Torpedoes all have their own button. It didn't have the voice clips though. The old stand was rigid with one position and the new one seems a bit gimmicky. Nice that they come with the stickers already on, but hope that the person in China is paying attention to placement. I was able to get my original Playmates Enterprise back in the day off eBay for $50 before it became HTF. The guy I outbid messaged me asking if I was going to take it out of the box. I replied, "Yes! I'll be whooshing it around!" He seemed satisfied with that answer. Thanks for the review of the new release! And yeah, it'd be really nice if they came out with a TOS Klingon D7 which they never did. The thin neck probably causes some production/play issues.
Too many things wrong with this ship to list, I don't why they did not just use the original Playmates mold for this ship. The shape was far more accurate and it did not have the dozens of screw holes in it. Walmart had them on clearance for $5.00 and I passed on it.
It's not bad looking M but all those recessed screw holes have to be covered up! Ì'll stick with the replica I already have... the one on the black stand. It's built a bit better than the Playmates version.
Honestly, the only reason I'd buy this, would be for my kids. The sounds are nice but the lights are not that great, especially the impulse engines look bad, almost as if they forgot to paint it. There are so many better models out there.
No- I'm asking why they are GRAY????? suppose to be WHITE.. I don't watch much any more-- but I am thinking of collecting some models from all my favorite shows.. including 20k leagues under the sea (Disney version only), UFO, Wild Wild West, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Munsters, and many more... and YES- Star Trek, Star Wars, etc..
With all those screw holes the Playmates Enterprise looks awfully cheap and tacky compared to the Diamond Select Enterprise's. Once again CBC Paramount were happy to give fans a poorer quality Star Trek product than what had previously been available.
For all those bitching about, they should have done this, or why didn't they do that, or it's hot garbage, and no excuse for that: Let's see you do better.
The massive screw holes all over it ruined it for me. Your other models might be smaller but they seem to be more graceful and less clumsy reproductions.
It is a $30 toy for kids, not an absurdly overpriced QMX filming-quality display piece. It's made so that little hands can hold it and play with it and have fun. Not so a rich collector can put it under glass and boast about how much cash they wasted on it. Star Trek needs kids to get into it and love it the way WE DID when we were kids. If Playmates hadn't made a badly-detailed, out-of-proportion Enterprise D in 1990 or whenever, I'd have gotten a Luke Skywalker X-Wing and forgotten about TNG. That's why it's so sad that they went Netflix on Prodigy.

I have one new in box in storage from the 90's.
OMG! The majotr typo on the box! WOW!

It is hard to believe that a retail Walmart would stock this item for sale.
You got a broken 1. Mine lights up on top. Buddy. Return it. And look at the paper, that came with it. 1st. Button does 2 sounds the other 2 3 each. Mine is darker. It's China buddy
I got mine!!!
Awesome toy model. Sadly, I will have to pay 70 bucks over here, where I live. Very steep pricing.
The Diamond Select ones look better. It looks less toy-like. I still have that and have it on display.
i hate 2 spoil the party, but just be aware that all the stickers will become slightly yellow over the coming decades ...
speakin now from my own experience with the old playmates collection.
but for 25 bucks i would got this one for sure as well !
Warp nacelle forward lights should be red, not orange, - could have made them twinkle or flash in a clockwise rotation, impulse should be red as well, one sound effect sounds like it's from TNG, port and starboard lights flashed in the series.
The Screw hole suck you think they could’ve cover them up with rubber or stickers. Looks like you could mod it easy enough, put more lights in.
Please do not leave the batteries in it since quality of all batteries now days is on par with a Wild West House of Ill Repute.
I have that very ship.
This ship is almost perfect, the only issue is, all of the windows are too large.
Is it just me, or does the color scheme remind you of the TAS Enterprise?
I totally agree.
Where do you get these
I bought mine on Amazon. Big Bad Toy Store is another place I buy my toys from. It’s in stock on there too if you’re interested. www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/193653?o=4
I got one for Christmas this past year and was thoroughly disappointed with the quality
It definitely looks cheap on the video, but I might get one anyway if I can find a marked down one.
@@Terminus_El_Camino i saw several for say at the local Walmart for like $30 USD they also had figures of Kirk Spock and Khan, i got them all but upon closer inspection the likenesses arent that good.
All those screw holes is what put me off of buying this. Diamond select still holds the top spot for ships.
..uuuggghhh why are they still making them with the ridges on the saucer section like the old amt model kits?
Are you from CNY? I recognize our accent.
When is the Constitution class not a Constitution Class? When its a Freedom Class...
Now A, B, C, D, E, F, G(ECLIPSE CLASS IS TRUE G) DEFIANT, PROMETHEUS, DS9. 😁
Honestly, the only reason I'd buy this, would be for my kids. The sounds are nice but the lights are not that great, especially the impulse engines look bad, almost as if they forgot to paint it. There are so many better models out there.
Is it made in China?
Eek. Cheap and nasty.
I’ll keep my twenty year old Art Asylum piece.
Do androids have souls
Take my 💵 💵 💵 💵 💵
Look great from the top view, but all those screws on the bottom of the model, puts me off it.
I got the Bandai enterprise its bad
No- I'm asking why they are GRAY????? suppose to be WHITE.. I don't watch much any more-- but I am thinking of collecting some models from all my favorite shows.. including 20k leagues under the sea (Disney version only), UFO, Wild Wild West, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Munsters, and many more... and YES- Star Trek, Star Wars, etc..
The exposed screws and all the screw holes destroy the overall look for me. I think I'll pass.
Awesome!! But I really hate the stand..
With all those screw holes the Playmates Enterprise looks awfully cheap and tacky compared to the Diamond Select Enterprise's. Once again CBC Paramount were happy to give fans a poorer quality Star Trek product than what had previously been available.
I'll pass on this model. Doesn't come close to my standards. I think even with the sale price you overpaid.
Those screw holes are just terrible and distracting.
For all those bitching about, they should have done this, or why didn't they do that, or it's hot garbage, and no excuse for that: Let's see you do better.
The massive screw holes all over it ruined it for me. Your other models might be smaller but they seem to be more graceful and less clumsy reproductions.
Too many screw holes, gaps in the seams. Sorry: Looks like shit to me.
its HOT GARBAGE... way out of proper proportion for the engineering hull and nacelles... it this day and age there is absolutely no excuse for that.
@@jameschamplin1742 the molding for this was designed on a computer; STOP with the pathetic excuses...
as a side note, it would have saved plastic (ie money) making it to "proper" proportions
@@tonyf8167 Who cares? It's a toy for kids. It doesn't matter if if was designed on a computer or by crashing rocks together. It's a toy for kids.
