India’s only Oscar winning director’s films are in Bengali, and India’s only Nobel prize winning Poet’s literary works are in our mother tongue. Bengal has produced world class legends, from Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhash Ch Bose, Satyendranath Bose(of Bose-Einstein Condensate), Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Sri Prabhupada(ISKCON founder)... to Hemant Kumar, S D Burman, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, ... the list goes on and ends with Saurav Ganguly, who changed the History of Indian Cricket.

Actually Bengali and Gujarati have some words common in their lexicons because of Sanskrit...try listening a bit more closely and perhaps you'd find Bengali having some words you use in Gujarati or even Hindi also.

I know Bangla little as I m now in Kolkata but not enough to understand this song but I really love the song and rabindra sangeet very much dil se .
'jai' er opor erokom kaaj acche na ki? But Rabindrasangeet is often sung by commercial artists in this manner. She has a sweet voice, though. And her glamour is undeniable. That is a very important quality for audience reception, nowadays.
