    Tried out a slightly different editing style with this video in an attempt to help keep my content feeling fresh and exciting. Let me know if you like (or even noticed) the changes so I know how to edit future videos. Thanks for your continued feedback and support!

      Great video Ben. But I'll leave all the spiders to you. Something about those exposed FANGS that keep my fingers away from them. Hahaha

      @stevencartlidge6574 Thanks Steven! Haha the exposed fangs are a little unnerving, especially when they are resting on your hand.

      I didn't consciously notice the changes but this video was clear and concise with enough cuts to keep short attention spans engaged. I don't know if you are back in NC but the recent warm rains have brought out the frogs here in the Piedmont. I found a Green and Bullfrog last night near a vernal pool. I also heard a couple species of tree frog which I think it were Upland Chorus and Spring Peepers.

      Editing is very good. Nice one buddy. I like spiders because they eat mosquitoes lol.

    This is a fantastic video Ben, I can see that you really stepped up the editing style and it works very well. This is such an interesting concept for a video, I liked seeing the peak spider diversity of those very cool island chains. Solid information as always, and that was a very adept huntsman catch too. Nice work man!

      Thanks for the high praise, it means a lot coming from you guys! I was so fortunate to have been able to encounter both of these species, the only thing that could have made the video even cooler is if I would've been in Japan when the Joro spiders are mature. Always appreciate your support!

    If you ever have the opportunity, it would really be interesting to see you discuss more about Japan's spider population. A lot of games and media from Japan typify spiders as black and yellow stripes, but over here in North America I rarely see anything that fits that description. Spiders like the Kogane-gumo are the type I believe are being depicted most frequently, with a nearly spherical backside. Or, like you mentioned, even the jorō-gumo has some of that patterning which extends to its legs. Maybe there isn't a spider that has those two features of spherical body and yellow coloration on the legs, and the depictions are a combination of common spider traits in the region. The Huntsman you handled also had some alternating stripes to its appendages which is also a new concept to me. The traits are shared widely, seemingly with anything that fits under the infraorder of Araneomorphae.

      I'll definitely try and feature more spider content in the future, and although I didn't get to film any mature Joro or Wasp spiders during my time there, I'll do my best to try and showcase more of the Argiope species diversity in North America. It is always amazing to me how related species from completely different continents can have such remarkably similar characteristics!

    had huntsman (H venatoria like in the video!) as pets and they were the sweetest things. only one out of 4 bolted. loved to eat, haha they were so awesome. They get a bad rap because they CAN move fast, but actually when they feel safe I havent really experienced that at all. They use their speed to escape or eat but not generally. Most of my girls just lounged around all day looking beautiful and waiting for potential food.

    Snakes don't bother me one bit. But spiders ... I would never in a MILLION years CHOOSE to hold a spider or have one within viewing distance for that matter. But I find it so calming and reassuring to watch you handle them. As a mom of adult kids, I wonder what your mom thought of your activities when you were younger (assuming you've always been interested in nature). :)

    • @TheWildReportOfficial
      @TheWildReportOfficial  8 місяців тому +1

      I was that way for a long time too, then once I held my first spider and realized it was just a funky looking but sweet little arthropod they've not bothered me anymore. My mom was (is) not a fan of any situation in which she thinks I might be in danger - including basically any wildlife interaction haha. But it's her fault I got into reptiles because she used to read me dinosaur books all the time as a kid so I can't blamed.
