That's awesome that you walked from Chepstow to Severn Beach and love the tour guide style like moments on the Severn Bridge. Great to see that your fit and heathy Jen. Great video
Jen, you are awesome and an inspiration. As someone who struggles with their health and is becoming more aware of the limitations our bodies place upon us, I want to thank you for adding these personal insights to what were already interesting videos. And what a lovely day for a walk!
What a beautiful story of overcoming, thank you for putting this one up out of chronological order! Plus, a very handy way to show use of stations to actually get somewhere, rather than just ticking them off a GB rail map - long may you be Cheshire's best kept UA-camr! \m/
Also, I sent my manager this video. He grew up in that neck of the woods (on the Welsh side of the river), and watching it has brought back loads of happy memories for him. Thank you, from him!
i really enjoyed watching this i love the class 231 FLIRT trains & they are amazing & the Severn Bridge looks amazing & im loving the views from the bridge which look amazing in the sunshine brilliant vlog as always
Fantastic stuff, Jen - great to see you in a happy place! You missed a trick when you said that the path was soul destroying- perhaps you meant “sole” destroying 😆
This is a great video Jen. I am so impressed by your determination and capacity to impart info in a challenging environment too. Many congratulations on your achievement.
I lived in Bristol and had close friends in Chepstow. As the tolls at the time were so extortionate, I would be dropped off at Severn View in England and walk over to be collected at Bulwark in Wales. It was like Soviets swapping spies with the West!
So ace seeing the improvement from last week's video to this one 💙. Walking 8 miles is no mean feat. Having watched the start of the video I feel like I should've gone back to get you Costa now 😅
Wonderful video! Good to see you so enthusiastic with your journey, I do love your blue hair!!! Denim hue👍👍👍👍❤️😋 Thank you for the info and pictures , filming!… 👍👍
Hi Jen, I to have to say how marvellouse you are looking, and your return to blue hair as well as physical fitness really sets you off. However, the onshore breezes still make your hair do "hair things"...😀. Very well done with your fitness regime, it has got you back to a much happier Jen. Those FLIRT units are the same as what we have on Greater Anglia, still hoping you will have the opportunity to visit my region at some point...🙂 As ever, take care, Jon B.
Well done!!! Loving the hair colour too. If you want a lighter camera to carry - E-M5 or OM5 or for more pro features OM1 Mk1 or 2, all have the best image stabilizer in any camera out there. Take care.
I did a little day out on merseyrail yesterday, I went from home in Chester to Ormskirk, I I went from cheshire to Lancashire on a merseyrail day ticket 😅and had a fab day x
Well done for doing something you feel proud of. I've often found people get very competitive with fitness, but as long as you feel like you have had a good walk, and it satisfies you, that's all that matters.
Yeah, there's no point in comparing yourself to others... there will always be a very high number of people fitter than me... I'm just not the athletic type!
@@JenOnTheMove oooh. Good to know. Walking is something I can do. When it stops feeling like Hell’s Front Porch outside. But before the winter sets in lol. Then I’ll have to find some place to find to walk inside. Sigh. As for eating… I gotta figure that part out. The meds my GP has me on have either killed my appetite or lead me to eat an entire bag of cheese popcorn. There’s like no middle ground
Hi Jen, loved the video. I know it is not like your normal videos, however as I have said before, I am not interested in just the stations but your particular journey. Good to see that you have managed to get some fitness back. Take care :)
It is so heartening to see you and your amazing hair (same colour as my wife's)! Keep up the stamina, Jen! The Severn is your river. Mine is the Wye. I had a rock-bottom experience in 1991, and walking the Wye Valley Walk with my Dad was part of my recovery. There's something about walking isn't there?
Well done Jen, not only do you look much healthier in such a short time, you feel healthier, but you also look happier.. just imagine all the places you can go out and explore from stations up and down the country..
All that additional endurance after just one and a half months? That is truly impressive! Also what a lovely video! Journey milestone achieved! I'm ticking off Yr Wyddfa tomorrow (if you ever plan to go up there by rail, book months and months ahead, it's very popular).
I wish gwr had the class 231s on the trains in devon. Being an partially sighted and autistic with depth perception and vestibular issues due to being epilepsy. Those level access trains would be great as it is hard to judge the difference in the gaps between the platform qnd trains. Your hair looks great.
In addition to the transmission towers, there is also a water-cooled transmission line tunnel between Beachley and Aust. I visited Beachley in 2005, and had a long conversation with a powerline worker at the liftshaft to the transmission tunnel. He was acting as above ground security whilst his colleagues were down below doing maintenence. I passed under the bridge on the Aust Ferry in the mid 60s. They were half way thru' lifting the road decks at that time. About the same time, Bob Dylan also used the Aust Ferry, and you can find photos and movie footage of that event online.
Glad you're getting yourself fit and healthy so you can enjoy being out and about a bit more. You look visibly healthier and dont downplay the distance, 8 miles is a decent old trek.
As well as my love for transport, I have a real pechant for bridges. This ticked so many boxes, I'm going to have to do this. Thanks for the inspiration Jen. X
I am old enough to remember the bridge opening in 1966 and when you could stand at Aust Services which are now closed to watch the traffic on the bridge and yes I have walked it from England over to Wales

The support group launched this petition after the "Restoring Your Railway" funding was scrapped. They're gathering public signatures in Portishead this Tuesday. Have a nice week!
I am surprised you were not wearing ear plugs for that crossing. The noise would have made me quite anxious. I am pleased for your joy and your new outlook. That costal path is birder heaven, I suspect, particularly in late winter and Spring. The symmetry shot down the second bridge was nice
My grandad worked on the 2nd Severn Bridge so as a 12 year old I got to go a third of the way across whilst it was still being built. It took me a further 20 something years to actually cross the thing. Around the time you dipped to black you were passing a caravan site where he was based during the work.
Thank you for sharing your walk. You can walk much further than I ever could. Back in the days of the Aust ferry if it wasn't working it was around 50 miles diversion via Gloucester.

I started driving as they were building the second Severn crossing. I live just down from Severn beach. It’s a great walk. I’ve walked the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, that was epic
I’m glad it took you the back route out of Chepstow station, the main road in parts usually ‘wins’ worst polluted road in Wales. Drove over to visit my mum on the weekend, but you’ve sold me on trying this walk on to Severn Beach one day somehow.
If you fancy a similar do, cycle over the Humber Bridge, the longest bridge of its type you can cycle across. Then get a slooooow train from Barton upon Humber.
We used to have a ferry (paddle steamers - 3 of them) across the Humber, Hull to New Holland. Only one of the two stations in the country which had no trains - Corporation Pier station. It closed in 1981 when the Humber Bridge opened. A great mistake, in my opinion. Philip Heselton.
