They had a few helmets that already had GoPro mounts on them. We had to dig through the helmet pile to find one, but they said if I didn't, I could always stick my own mount onto their helmet so long as I didn't mind leaving it afterwards. Since mounts are only a couple of bucks, I'll definitely take one with me next time in case we can't find a helmet that has one on it already.

I'm jealous! I'd love to go again in the heat of summer. The water in May was coooold! (well, cold compared to the only other time I'd gone it, about 12 years prior during June or July). But it did make it a bit more intense, so that was fun.

At 37:09 he chuckles and it sounds like the Pillsbury dough boy

will mcgriff LOL. This might be my favorite UA-cam comment of all time. I can't believe not only watched the video far enough in to even get to that point, but then caught that very subtle chuckle. I hadn't even noticed it before. I need to give Pillsbury a call if that voice actor ever quits ...

did you get to take your own helmet on this trip? or did you have to mount your Gopro on one of their helmets?

I have a question about mounting the GoPro because I assume you used the rafting company Wildwater (I rafted with that company there a month after judging by the video upload date). Was there room to install a mount on the helmet and if so with what mount? I read a comment about there being some with helmets that had mounts already and I don't remember seeing any last year.

I actually took my trip with O.A.R. (Outdoor Adventure Rafting). There are a LOT of companies who do guide trips there. I know we encountered at least 3 other companies on the river at the same time as us (and it seemed like most of the guides knew each other, even across companies).
I had taken the standard curved helmet mount from GoPro with me (like the one in this package: www.amazon.com/dp/B009PK9UWA/?tag=jennidunawpho-20), but then I found a helmet that already had a mount on it and was ready to go. There was plenty of room on those helmets to install a mount right around where your hairline would be above your forehead ... kind of halfway between the top of the helmet and the front of the helmet. I also wrapped a tether cord through a hole in helmet and attached it to the GoPro camera's housing, just in case the mount slipped. And used the orange Floaty Backdoor, just in case the tether failed AND the mount failed, so at least I could see it floating. =D

Was browsing rafting videos and noticed your title. I partied with Caveman on the Pitt River once! And my ex went down the Gauley with him a few years prior to that! Small world... and a memorable nickname in a such a niche community.

No kidding! What a small world! That's pretty awesome. Works well having such a memorable nickname; he was definitely a unique character! I'm really hoping he's still guiding this coming summer and I can get a ride with him again. Great guide!

Very cool! It was definitely a blast. I'd love to do it again.
I need to edit this video down to just the parts with the rapids. I uploaded this so the other people in our raft could watch it, but it's probably a lot more boring of a video when you're not the one in it! Haha.

Doing a class 4 rapid while you can't see, instant class five.
