That was a train tunnel (B&O). My mom (who passed away) lived in Westport and train maps from the 1940s show the line. That area was crime ridden in the 1970s (probably before that), I cannot imagine how bad that area is now. You are one crazy dude. Thank you.
That abandoned theater is the the Mayfair Theatre. That place is old as dirt, it used to be a bathing house back in 1880. It's sad that such a nice looking building like that has been abandoned for around 40 years.
actually the “steamatorium” was under the theater’s stage. the first indoor pool in Baltimore was down there. i actually got to see it before it was buried. if you look on youtube, there’s a video of some guys who went down there. it’s fascinating.
I'm a theatre expert on the Mayfair I've been in there many times I collected hundreds of artifacts from this building such as seat cushions bulbs fuses programs tickets schedules for the movies carbon reports phone books pizza coupons and other things from the 60s and 70s. The building has quite the history I'm glad that Zalhco will be redeveloping it
@@DanBellFilmIt it was actually called The Natatorium it was an indoor swimming pool and James Kernan had it converted into a music hall in the 1890s called The Howard Auditorium Music Hall until 1903 when it became part of his Million Dollar Triple Enterprise which consisted of three buildings in one combination (The Auditorium The Maryland and The Hotel Kernan), all of which contained rooms Barber shops pool tables a rathskeller underground bar an art gallery room and other fine entertainment. In 1941 The Auditorium became The Mayfair The Maryland was torn down in 1951 for a parking lot and The Hotel Kernan became The Congress Hotel.
I used to be a projectionist back in the 90s so it was really interesting to see that abandoned booth! As to those switches on the end of the booth, they could have controlled the curtains framing the screen. Flat and Scope movies have different settings.
Baltimore has such an amazing history, it is sad to see what it has become. How amazing would it be to step back in time to see that theater in its heyday.
power plant live downtown is so cool, angels rock bar and hammerjacks. only problem is the scum people and crime, I don't go back anymore after a fight i had with a crazed black dude after a Kix concert.
Really sad that one of America's most Historical Cities is in so much Decay. Last time I was there was in the early 1970's. My, it looks like a War Zone with so much Destruction...
It's videos like this that make me fixated on this city's architecture, and history. Perhaps it can be equally difficult now to picture what they places looked like in their prime as it would be for someone back then to imagine the state it is in are in now. An engineering marvel of once a modern highway tunnel and prominent theater.
How wonderful is this -- a Dan Bell video when sleep is elusive. One heck of a brave guy who goes through really interesting and creepy spaces. Love your videos.
Going in a dark tunnel at night in Baltimore takes alot of guts. I watched you go in that abandoned house once the 3 story one that was a foster house ., at 3 in the morning. I still love watching that one ❤ it's scares the S hi t out of me 😅
they’re going to incorporate the facade into a new apartment building that’s going up. the front structure is mostly concrete and in pretty good shape for being over 100 years old.
For some reason I love abandoned theatres the most. This one was scary! I just whish you had crossed the street and turned around to show us the facade a little better or what's left of it. - The Proper People's double decker theatre in Los Angeles is amazing and the one where you met with them and walked in through one of the theatre doors over a huuuge pile of rubble. Aaaah, Vaudeville theatres. They have such a morbid charm to them. All the joy people experienced there and the hard work done by the performers and then most of them turned into adult movie theatres in the 70s and then closed for good in the 90s or so.
The shutters over the projection openings are because film in this theatre's original era was ridiculously flammable. In case of a fire, projection rooms had shutters which dropped over the openings, and the projectionist could shut a heavy door. The room contained a sink and toilet so that the projectionist didn't have to leave while a film was running. The big switches are indeed dimmers for the lights.
Been a fan for a long time, and I just want to say thank you for all the amazing content! You are a master videographer! It’s so satisfying to watch your work , very talented thank you sir!
I remember you filmed this theater like 8 years ago or so. Glad you got the footage of the back half hefore they demolished it. I was hoping to see the lobby back then, but now you did it, so kudos.
“Ufmph…that’s a nice little drop!! LOL, that comment cracked me up !! You’ve got guts of steel to climb that fekking staircase😮AND THEN to still look down !! Nope, I’d never do that!! Wow! What a fascinating old theatre, I love these places and seeing all the old lights and film feel gadgets. Creepy though. Great to see you and Dillon again. ❤Thank you Xx😊
That's what puzzling me, I never knew what it looked like back in the 60s and 70s before the roof collapsed in 1998, I always have tried to locate any interior photos of the Mayfair from when it was still opened before it closed in April of 1986. No such luck probably only 1 photo of the lobby taken in 1963 when it received it's final remodeling for the Maryland Premier of Lawrence Of Arabia.
Still wondering about that huge overgrown walled building that took up a block that you and Will passed several years back. Knew the intersection back then and tried to see it on Google Earth. This place was a very cool explore!
Dan bell is back again after along spell out awesome to see u again Dan . The famous explorer of UA-cam the legend of UA-cam is back . Hope your well dan stay well buddy . Watching you from Sheffield in the UK ❤️🇬🇧👍💪I bet this tunnel is haunted to hell 😂
Nice work, beautiful decay, decay is headed your way, I wonder what happened to those dudes? We had a Mayfair Movies in Philly, at Cottman and Frankford Aves in my old neighborhood, been gone for years, now it’s a bank, I think? The old street lights in that tunnel was cool!
Does anyone have an approximate location of the tunnel? I’m always fascinated with identifying the places Dan explores on a map but this one is giving me trouble.
I like to do that too. I had heard about an abandoned tunnel, and saw the closed off entrance to it many years ago. I can’t remember exactly where it was, but it was south of Baltimore, on one of the expressways going to DC, maybe 295, don’t remember. But when heading southbound, from Baltimore, it was on the right hand side, fairly close to the road, and you could only see it by looking back over your shoulder, to see the south end of the tunnel. I think there were doors on it. I’ve tried looking on Google Maps since then, but can’t find it. Don’t think it was too far south of Baltimore.
Long shot, but does anyone recall an episode of Dan exploring, and he enters a room and there is a mannequin immediately to the right as he enters the room? I'm almost certain it happened but haven't a clue what video it might have been.
@@meraygreyzer8403 Maybe. I know that one has the mannequin on the bed based on the thumbnail but if that place has that mannequin it could have more - the mannequin I remember is standing right next to the door, for reference. I'll check tomorrow when I have time to watch it. Thankyou :D

Looks like it was used by the highway department for storage until it became unsafe due to the large slabs of concrete falling from the ceiling.

Just a harmless house centipede, Dan! Lol
