    Tony wasn't being gentle with Ralphie. He was reminding him, without confrontation, that a captain within a mob family should know better than to excuse murdering a card player and shooting at/shot two made guys. Tony framed it as Ralph's decision, but was making it clear that there was only 1 right decision.

      and also ironically or rather hypocritically, they were still being terrorists and making their victims reach their limit… only to cause worse to them all and south asians too because ((anglo) north) america has less than zero education and is anti-education too while portraying themselves as the victims & martyrs even though it’s the west but mostly the US terrorists’s doing and their fault but mostly the fault of the oligarchs in the war business controlling them like the worthless army toys they are to them, and laughing at all too while profiting off all.

    Finally a "reactor" appreciating Livia. She was so extremely funny and convincing as this narcissist or whatever she was.

    • @TheFourNineThree
      @TheFourNineThree Місяць тому +3

      @LaCheeserie there was no other option. Tony was basically giving an order but used words and reverse psychology to make Ralph feel as if he doesn't do it then the other made men will look at him a certain way and won't respect him. So basically he had no choice but to put the hit out on Jackie Jr.

    • @LaCheeserie

      @@TheFourNineThree It get the play, my only point, it was not 100% guaranteed Ralph would do it. I always thought it was interesting that Tony defended the mobsters with "We're not killers we're soldiers" but wanted to keep AJ out of the family biz by sending him to military school with the same argument of "They're not killers, they're soldiers".
    Other than Jackie Jr. Himself Ralphie is the one most responsible for his death. First pointing him in the path that leads to his demise, and then actually ordering the hit, but is the one that feels least affected by it.

    • @RonaldRobert-us7qk
      @RonaldRobert-us7qk Місяць тому +1

      Yeah, but military school teaches discipline. I'm not sure anyone in Tony's crew has that trait. It also is more about advancing your education, and if you want a career in the military, you're more likely to be an officer than on the front lines.

    Christy, David Chase said the show is about people who lie to themselves. Meadow realizes the hypocrisy of the whole situation with the Jackie situation. That's why the situation is bull**it.

  • @amanofiron8252
    @amanofiron8252 Місяць тому +4

    This is deliberate - David Chase hates TV conventions, so even though he does a few season finales that go out with a bang, most of them don't, and usually it's the penultimate episode or the episode prior etc. that tends to be the one with all the big action and stuff.
    Season 4 is my favorite. It's slower than most seasons because it's even more heavy on character development and takes it time to really build to something special.

  • @NotQuiteFirst
    @NotQuiteFirst Місяць тому +4

    Re the weird music changes at the end: I think I read that David Chase's intention was making a point about how manipulatively music can be used. It was more in line with what you were saying about Meadow calling out the hypocrisy of how they (the mob) are the cause of Jackie being killed, but they will all put on a show of grief, but it's a facade.

    meadow is difficult cuz she actually has a brain, way more than anyone else on the show. shes one of my favorite characters in anything. the fact she manages to be a good person in spite of everything is incredible. her parents get mad at her because she passes judgement on them, but they deserve to be judged.

    • @RonaldRobert-us7qk
      @RonaldRobert-us7qk Місяць тому +4

      But Meadow wasn't being difficult. She loved Jackie, he was murdered, and deep down, she knows her father likely at best had something to do with that. At worst he ordered it. I think that reality would drive anyone to throw bread at Uncle Junior's head.
      A part of her probably also believes that the murder might have been connected to Jackie's cheating on her. Under the circumstances - and the 12 quarts of vodka she chugs - she's pretty reasonable.

  • @gregsgoogle2947
    @gregsgoogle2947 Місяць тому +2

    Obviously they are setting up the future. Great thing about this show is how well characters mature over time. Meadow has pretty much figured everything out. AJ knows some things but hasn’t thought anything through yet like Meadow has.
    Besides Roe, Meadow was the only person at the funeral who was genuinely grieving. Even Jackie Jr’s sister was faking grief. She made it clear she had no respect for her brother.
    Everyone was just using this occasion to eat well & make snide remarks about Jackie Jr. That’s what Meadow was referring to by called this all BS & running off. She’s grieving & everyone else is just chowing down.

  • @thatswhyidrink

    Tony pawning the "handling" of Jackie Jr. off on Ralph is because they both realize he has to die (as Silvio says he "pissed on Ralph's leg" and by extension on Tony's as well) but Tony doesn't want to be the one to have to do it. Ralph also does not want to do it, which is why he suggested that he wanted to give him a pass, hoping Tony might do that and relieve him of the responsibility. Basically it was a chess game where both tried avoiding looking weak in the eyes of the others for not killing Jackie.

    • @LaCheeserie
      @LaCheeserie Місяць тому

      on the what if front, if Ralph gave him a pass then what? I think Tony is prepared for either result, and would have Ralphie as a scapegoat.

    • @thatswhyidrink
      @thatswhyidrink Місяць тому +1

      @@LaCheeserie I'm not sure that Tony could live with there being no retribution for Sunshine getting killed and Furio getting shot. I mean he might not personally care that much, but it would be perceived as weakness. Which is why Ralph tried this maneuver in the first place, he knew Tony could never agree, so he hoped that Tony would at least give the order to kill Jackie, so he could wash his hands off responsibility.

    • @LaCheeserie
      @LaCheeserie Місяць тому

    Today was my first time viewing the channel and I loved and subscribed.
    It's kinda like rewatching my favorite show again fr the first time. I'll be sure to tune in to each one because I've ben meaning to see it again and I love your reactions.
    Some trivia from the episode I do know
    - The dude playing chess with Jackie was Omar from "The Wire" - Obama's fave TV character of all time. This was his stomping ground.
    - Ralphie didn't want to have Jackie clipped, buy Tony was there to remind him that Ralphie was made a CAPO bcaus TS felt confident that he would make the decision to do what Tony felt was the right move.
    - There is another version of Adriana's FBI agent. The original agent was supposed to be Fairuza Balk (Sandler's GF from The Waterboy and also The GF from American History X) so you can see her on some UA-cam vids - she had another film project that year and had to leave the cast.
    I love the channel. I am half-Thai, so I'm a fan of the elephant tattoo and I look forward to watching more recaps.
    I must add that my childhood crush was Carmella Soprano and you can easily pass as the 20-something version of her. Keep up the great work!

      Smart kids (or those raised in a wealthy setting) usually go to college and become productive adults. Those unable to afford college, or lacking intelligence and lower economic backgrounds go on to working blue collar jobs. Some find success in that but others raised around crime often continue on to the same criminal lifestyle. The majority of us are products of our situations. Tony, Meadow, and Jackie Jr are a great example of this. Tony had a chance to get a college education but turned out like his father. Meadow was raised in a wealthy setting and continued to college. And Jackie Jr was raised just like Meadow but had issues with school and drugs and wanted to be like his father and that led to his death.

    You're overlooking the key element of this episode......but I forgive you because you're not involved in the life.😉
    The real significance is the FBI getting their dirty paws on Adriana.

    This episode is intentionally anti-climactic. They're trying to make you aware of the trauma, sadness and waste in these character's lives. It's not supposed to be exciting. It's supposed to be sad.

    I didn't like the character Jackie jnr, so full of himself and thinking his father gave him self entitlement. But he didn't deserve to die, Ralph was a terrible influence and threw him under the bus.
