  • Rachmaninoff wrote Vocalise for voice and orchestra. There are numerous transcriptions for piano, the Richardson is best known.
Recently it was transcribed by a young musician, Anton Borodin which I play in this recording as I prefer it above the others. I'm uncertain about the copyright situation but the PDF score is currently available for free download at:
    en.scorser.com/...
From this link, you will see the following:
    "Rachmaninov, Sergei (1873-1943). Rachmaninov-Borodin - Vocalise Op.34 No.14.
    Download: Direct link"
Click on the "Direct link" tab. which will activate the free PDF download I used in this recording.

Soliloquy, nostalgic, amazing harmony, lonely Sergei (Rachmanninof), as usual, full of power, anger, sadness, childish cries, adult coping, mood disorder, bypolar, me.... WOW Amazing pianist. He scared me at first with the power he started but he became Rachmanninof... Bravo

When I first heard Vocalise played by Emile Gilel, I was in floods of tears. I was very moved - I cannot tell what emotion I was feeling, whether it was joy or sadness. I felt empathetic, compassionate and was ready to give-up my life for some better cause, like becoming a priest and serving others. Dame Kiri Tekanawa singing Rachmaninov's Vocalise didn't have the same profound impact. Thank you, you have invoked the same raw feelings. Perry.

Hey did you become a priest? Or have you done something special as you mentioned on this comment?

    • @pmwkiy6879
      @pmwkiy6879 3 роки тому

The short answer is yes and no.
I made efforts to become a priest at a very early age, when I was at high school. In the process, I met two wonderful priests; one was the head of my college and the other the head of the seminary. Sadly, they passed some while ago. I wished I could reciprocate the love they showed me. Theses are some of my saddest regrets.
In my late twenties, when I reached a senior role of being in charge of the company's mainframe computer system and producing a set of Management Accounts for the board and department managers, I applied to Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) and offered my services. I was to be trained to teach in Africa. To begin, I spent three months in South Asia to acclimatise to being far away from home, family and friends.
I failed at both. That is the short answer.
There were complex obstacles and reasons in my path, which is why I failed. I know what they were.
I knew my limits and my weaknesses. I returned to my 9 to 5 job and sometimes wished I had persisted and didn't give up so easily.
I am indebted to six wonderful, kind men whom I met in the course of my entire life. One of them was the finance manager who trained me on the Hewlett Packard Mainframe Computer and he game me my first accounting job. He was a wonderful Irish gentleman - a super guy. I wish I could show him my gratitude.
I hope this quenches some of your thirst to know the answer.

I am hearing this for the first time. To me, the music sounds like an inner conflict and someone ascending a mental heap of emotions. Haunting and graceful.

I really like the pace you selected. It really allowed me to follow more accurately. It is an emotional thing and shouldn't be rushed. I have trouble remembering this when I play it. There are transitions that I find myself starting to hurry. I could write an essay on the emotions this creates in me.

Nice version. Interesting with the cross overs. Which version is this one. It is definitely not the A. Richardson transcription. Tempo was slower than I would have played it myself, but phrasing was nice. I thought that this transcription omitted a couple of details, but I enjoyed the performance artistry.

Love Paul Barton. However, this interpretation has good intentions but is not that great. The rubato is off and makes it too mathematical.
