The harmonic treatment of the theme suggest his initial fiddling intrigued him and he found gratification in working with the theme trying out various reharmonizations.
Bravo!!!!
While the Ravel Pavanne is most certainly a great piece , this semenal Pavanne by Faure cannot be topped . The slower paced performance here allows one to hear every rich modulation and subtle harmonic interplay . A truly hypnotic peace that I never tire of .
This is superb. Beyond words. The middle part always strikes me as discordant with the pastoral tone of the rest. But this performance unites it more than the orchestral versions, IMHO.
RamFunkshus As one who studies dissonance, there is always the discordant note or chord that can be added which travels into an unusual augmented direction. From there, one can explore alternate tonalities without stretching into total dissonance and chaos. I appreciate those composers who fauré into those alternate dimensions. [See what I did?]
Yes it sounds very foreign, he sharpens the fourth note in the major scale which is not a very common thing to do in western classical, it’s actually is raag Yaman in Indian classical music and I think it sounds very Indian lool
One of my favourite pieces to play at the piano. The first version I heard though was Branford Marsalis on his Romances for Saxophone album (the whole album is gorgeous) which is played with the English Chamber Orchestra.
My mother told me she used to play this when I was little, and now, every time I here this, I juste feel drawn to it and //no I have something in my eye// I never want it to end XD
Bonjour. 🤔
damn, youre selling this pedal well :) i dont even have a sustenuto pedal on my upright so ill never get this sound without breaking my fingers. beautiful!
dude makes it look easy. like a tool i learned an easy version in a flat key and now im trying this version in d major i think so i keep thinking about the flats instead of the sharps grrr. beautiful piece!!
I was hoping there was a piano version of this song (not that I don't like the orcestral version, but I can't hardly play that on my own ;p) and low and behold here you are with one. Guess it just took me a few years to catch up to this song, I have this album on iTunes to thank called "The 50 Most Essential Pieces of Classical Music" for that. This guy turned me onto it (first with Rhapsody in Blue, and then I got the rest of it myself) and I'm so glad. Not sure if I'll actually attempt to play it myself, but at least I know where to look for the solo piano sheet music. Do you have any tutorials on this version? I love your tutorials.
i think faure originally wrote this as a piano piece and then the orchestral rendition came afterwards. you do tend to see the orchestral version more often on youtube but there’s something so charming yet haunting about the piano version. you should listen to faure himself play this piece if you haven’t already it’s really good.
Great job! I'm trying to learn this piece. The hardest part for me is the cross-rhythms. How long did it take you to learn it? (Piece and cross-rhythms)
try learning both hands together slowly and only singe handed if a part needs improvement. that worked for me on chim chim cher-ee, which killed me first, too ;)
I'm playing this in an orchestra, triplets don't seem difficult, but they have to be perfect. Once you get them, the entire piece can come out, and it's a wonderful one
Hi Paul I've been getting a lot out of your piano tutorials on Chopin's Etudes and, more recently, your tutorial on Lizst's Consolation No.3. Would you please consider posting a tutorial on a Bach Prelude and Fugue? Thanks Chun
Bonjour Monsieur Barton. Merci
Hi Chantal - the sheet music is linked in the video information. I will also add the link for you here.
It's free. en.scorser.com/Out/300578644.html

So wonderful playing! The most favorite piece of my list. Really thankful your playing.
I swear, the more I listen to this piece, the more beautiful it gets.
I doubt 9 more years has changed that opinion.
Agreed!
This harmony, this chordprogression, this Melodie....
They have lied to us... , there is perfection in this world....
The harmonic treatment of the theme suggest his initial fiddling intrigued him and he found gratification in working with the theme trying out various reharmonizations.

This is the best performance I have ever heard. Thank you ever so much. Over and over I never tire of your rendition.

Excellent steady left hand guides the song along a somber lyrical path with intent.
It's going to be the next piano piece I learn! It's so deeply moving...
One of the best performances I ever listened to... Sooo moving...
I put this on to help me study and I did nothing but sit still and listen to the music haha!.....Beautiful!
One of my favorite pieces ever 💕 I almost forgot how It feels to listen at this beautiful piece until today :'3
Very nice performance, thanks! :)

Ludwig van Beethoven Mozart is better then you. Fuck off you angsty rebel.

Ti adoro Maestro Barton!!!!! Complimenti 💯💯💯💯❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful, Paul! The harmonic pedal is very convincing here.
The notes arent difficult to play, however it takes forever to get the piece this polished.. wow. very beautifully played.

Can you share the link to the sheet music for Pavane?
it's in the description, that's where I got it.
I love Faure and your way to play !
My mother told me she used to play this when I was little, and now, every time I here this, I juste feel drawn to it and //no I have something in my eye// I never want it to end XD
Beautiful piece, I am learning it right now, not a overtly difficult piece but to play as beautifully as Paul would be challenging 😍

His performance is amazing. Alternative pedal arrangements are also very good.
You sure know how to use those dynamic expressions to your advantage. . Very skillful And beautiful interpretation/ performance Paul.

Bella, pulita, curata e fedele allo spartito
Simply perfect.
It's so beautiful
very good control
This music harmony is tremendously romantic. It gives me tragic feelings like loosing the Love.
excellent - the harmonic pedal certainly adds that special something
I started piano lessons so I could learn this peace🙌🏻
What are some more pieces of composers like this! The piece had many interesting jazz like changes my ears have never heard before! Super interesting
Just lovely.
Are there other songs that are
more melancholy and sorrowful
than this song ❓
Exquisite performance !
@Barbara Sowak
Thank-you so much to your wonderful comments
I entirely forgot my contribution
Bravo and Good luck Paul.
Tout simplement SUBLIME !

pizzicato with the left hand: very difficolt
I started learning to play this.
Then I looked this up.
And now I've given up hope.
Silly of you. Why not hope to improve on it? ;)
I'm playing this in an orchestra, triplets don't seem difficult, but they have to be perfect. Once you get them, the entire piece can come out, and it's a wonderful one
Keep practicing, practice makes perfect 👌
oh no! don't give up ... music even if not played perfectly is still there for our enjoyment, pleasure and sharing with others
Even if you cannot get the triplets to sound correct, just play the melody with some corresponding chords and you will be in heaven..
Amazing.
Outstanding.
Hey bro, thanks for sharing this. This piece is one of my Chris' favourites too! xx
Glad you liked it :) He has really good pace and timing. All his pieces are amazing. If only I was this good, maybe one day!
