    I love watching your videos. You pick the best guitars at the best prices. You give more personalised effort to the customer. There are bigger sellers on here that churn out bs videos and don't give a toss about the customer.

      Hi Stuart! That is really kind of you to A) notice and appreciate it and B) To mention it :) Thanks so much. One of the reasons I dont post much is I am deep in "business stuff and trying to run the business day to day behind the scenes and its mentally and physically quite exhausting. I have to genuninely be "in the mood" and "up for it" - So basically my videos will always be honest - from the heart and the fact I am doing the video means it should be important to me at least!!! I have LOADS to update you on but..... I am still trying to work a solution to do this - and look after my family - business etc :)

    Hi Richard
    I am afraid I must disagree over the GS pricing structure. I think it is wonderful to be able to see the price details. Almost everyone buying a guitar will have a budget. Being able to see the prices allows you to make compromises getting those things that are important to you may be better tuners or a different bridge or perhaps the colours, patterns or woods. It also allows you to configure your ideal guitar and save for it. In fact I wish there were more details of choices and the price involved, certainly on the pickup sides. People that don’t care about the price probably won’t be buying a GS. Not because they are not amongst the best but because they are not in a price range they would look. There are wonderful Swiss watches at under £1000 from established companies over 150 years old but there a some people who would only look at companies whose entry level watches are £5000 plus. I know from my own experience using the site would lead me to nudge the specs as I see that upgrade is only £XX. I will add that etc etc. So it would lead to me spending more on a GS. I would probably go for a single cut with Lollar or BKP humbucker pickups, Mahogany body and neck (both 1 piece, neck quarter sawn) locking tuners, ABM roller bridge and tail, four CTS pots. Comfort cut, locking strap locks that’s all for the moment I don’t know the colour yet ( would also consider swamp ash with maple neck.) Lottery dream guitars are cool.

      HI Stephen. Thanks so much for your feedback - its really appreciated. I think I am guilty of speaking honestly and openly and maybe I should just sometimes keep my thoughts to myself! :) PERSONALLY - I am talking PERSONALLY.... I am so personally connected to the quality of these guitars that I find the price list undermines their value -and would rather see maybe a price bracket rather than individual prices on parts? So..... £1200 gets you pre made instruments..... £1500 get your GS1/2 with XYZ number of variants.... £1750 gets your Classic S, T, Gatsby with XYZ customisations, £2000 gets you deluxe appointments - I am throwing this off the top of my head - BASICALLY a simpler structure that makes pricing 100% easy to understand - easy to implement - easy for Gordon Smith to maintain. Just ideas and I really appreciate your feedback

    Just to say I can see my comments about the pricing structure MAY have been taken a little out of context. One of the dangers of presenting videos totally off the cuff and saying how you feel. Dont worry! I think its a fascinating point of conversation and I would love to get Doug in and do a video on this. We were hoping PRE Covid to do a once a month video on Gordon Smith and Auden updates - I will see if we can get that back on track as I would love to discuss the current climate with Doug and the problems the lack of resources are causing all manufacturers - which all linked to my comments in the video. A more generalized price "band" that would include a number of options would simply help Gordon Smith give price guides without being QUITE so fixated on individual item pricing - same range of choices. It was a comment I made in the moment - because I care for the brand and want Gordon Smith to thrive! Thanks for listening and I am too - always. Thank you for your comments - much appreciated.

    Hi Rich, is the final guitar (Green T) available left handed?

  • @Barbarapape
    @Barbarapape 2 роки тому +3

    Sorry Richard i have to disagree on not knowing the price of the parts that i want on a guitar.
    I know what the average retail prices are and don't expect to pay anymore for them.
    I can't buy at trades prices, luthiers like Gordon Smith can.
    Having bought custom made guitars, i want a breakdown of the cost before i place my order.
    Even if it is below £2000, this is a lot of money to some players.
    Anyone paying more than this has more money than sense, lets keep the UK luthiers in business,
    the price of USA Custom shop models are beyond my pocket these days.

      Hi Allan - Thanks for your feedback. There is no issue with knowing the cost of the parts but surely you do understand that the actual sum value of the guitar is not the sum of the parts. I believe by giving people such incredibly precise details puts Gordon Smith under massive pressure to provide a guitar at a cost based on parts which are increasing almost by the month, which is totally unfair to themselves. Guitars are not normally sold via a break down of parts. I think a Gordon Smith Guitar should be priced based on the skills and expertise that go into making the guitar with natural variances overall rather than item by item. Thats just my personal opinion and I appreciate your feedback and opinion. I could be wrong!!

    • @Barbarapape
      @Barbarapape 2 роки тому +1

      @@RichardsGuitarshop I understand where you are coming from, and accept that you can't easily put a price on peoples skills, but at the end of the day, you need to know what the final price will be or you may not be prepared to pay it.
      If the cost of parts increases between placing an order and making the guitar then contact the customer first or you could have a very upset customer who won't come back.
      I work in electronics, and sometimes you have to swollow the price increases to keep the order, we live in a very uncertain time regarding the availability and prices of parts.

    • @RichardsGuitarshop
      @RichardsGuitarshop  2 роки тому +1

      @@Barbarapape Well of course. I think maybe we are at crossed purposes as that wasnt something I was suggesting. I dont have a problem in any way of pricing guitars based on specification but Gordon Smith are SO governed by the parts - I think it needs looking at. If the guitars were 3k a pop then it wouldnt be an issue! They are not. They are crazy prices for custom shop instruments - hence the issue.

    • @RichardsGuitarshop
      @RichardsGuitarshop  2 роки тому +1

      @@Barbarapape Here you go Allan - I am just using this as a sense of perspective. This is an Eggle.... www.eggle.co.uk/the-guitars/macon-junior This guitar starts at £2900. And this is a Gordon Smith with top specification parts rguitars.co.uk/products/gordon-smith-gs2-custom-classic-open-tv-yellow-pore-satin . Its wonderful how Gordon Smith can produce guitars at the prices they do - but my comments which I was thinking out aloud were really born from frustration that Gordon Smith guitars are some how seen in a dfferent perspective to an Eggle - maybe because of their history / heritage.

    I like GS guitars. Sort of reminds me of G&L out here in California. I custom ordered a G&L ASST Special abut 20 years ago. Nowadays they're probably around 2k or +
    IMHO-
    When a potential customer engages with the shop owner/dealer the process becomes more personalized as to options and recommendations. 🎧

    Gordon Smith guitars are bloody everywhere now. I remember being in a pub in Glasgow about 15 years ago and seeing a guy in the resident band playing a lovely strat, I didn't recognise the logo on the headstock and I asked the guy about it and he told me it was a Gordon Smith, custom built down south. Always kept my eye on them. They just seemed to have exploded recently. Should have grabbed one when they were cheaper lol

      Hi Luke - Thats ok! I have changed the title of the video as I dont want that really to dominate the conversation. My point really is I hate to see Gordon Smith being pressured to keep their prices to an unrealistically low level compared to the competition. That was all - a voice of concern for a wonderful brand who I think are still in this modern day - MASSIVELY under appreciated. Its a bit like when you are lovely to your kids - Do they appreciate it? lol... I think my kids take for granted much I do for them - and I think that plays out a bit with Gordon Smith. Its a tricky one.... I just want people to love them for what they are - not for the sum of the parts. Hope that makes sense!

    • @lukesteverything627
      @lukesteverything627 2 роки тому

      I really do understand your point but I believe people are getting tired of understanding a guitar is worth the Monet because of the brand. Slap Gibson on a guitar and double the price! There's a feeling of value when you see the sum of the parts and an underlying honesty about the final cost. I may well buy one of these guitars but I'd be less inclined to if the price was the label. It's just my opinion but I also want to know the guitar was built for me.
