    I recently purchased both the plate holders and the tray from NUBS. Fantastic quality, service and price from David. It came fast and was packaged very nicely. Thank you very much David for taking care of my order with you! Thx again Bob

    Thanks for the video -- Really well done! You have inspired me to fix my old one! Both beautiful and clever.
    Seems you did not add the air assisted hydraulic pump - good decision - my pump simply quit working years ago (took it apart, cleaned up, reassembled, and no obvious failure cause ever found). Hand pump still works great.

    I like all the mods you did, only things i would add are an air powered hydraulic ram and some casters to move it easily. I'm definitely doing the shelf on mine since all my attachments are just stacked up on the pressing surface.

    • @nubtools
      @nubtools  2 роки тому

      If you are on Instagram and you post pics of your shelf send them my way @nubtools I’d love to see it. Casters are something I am seriously considering after moving this thing around while building this press.

    Awesome build.
    The only improvement I think you could do now is put a cable crank system on it so that you could raise and lower the press plate table up and down without having to struggle with it.

    @Nub Tools, David I have Pimped out my Hobo Freight 20 Ton Press over the last couple of years also.
    My biggest Improvement was installing a Pneumatic controlled 20 Ton jack on mine, and adding a Foot Pedal for the Control.
    And the most Safety Upgrade I made was tossing the Hobo Freight Plates into my Scrap Bim and going with Swag Offroads Machined Arbor Press Plates made from 50-A572. The ones that come with it from Hobo are Junk Cast, and have shattered under Load. There's a Video on UA-cam somewhere where the Guy barely escaped getting hit in the Head with a piece of one.
    I didn't use mine again after seeing that. I immediately ordered the Machined Set. Just a suggestion though.
    Once again Great Video!

    • @nubtools
      @nubtools  2 роки тому +1

      Yah I learned about those bad plates and the videos from some comments. I found out that those cast press plates were on the older models that were orange and had bent or formed channel frames. The newer model presses that are silver and have actual c-channel frames came with steel press plates. I think harbor freight got the memo.
      This was the case with mine. FYI.
      That’s cool you’re pimping out your press too. Right on.

      @@nubtools I took your idea and got some off of Amazon that are stainless steel, rubberized and super strong and mount with double sided tape. I like that they shouldn't make any noise, and no drilling is required on the frame. I was impressed enough with them that I ordered a couple more pairs to hang stuff in our camper.
      I'll be incorporating some of your other ideas too. I think you've put together one of the nicer lists of upgrades anyone has posted to UA-cam so far. Love your die plate with concentric circles. I think if I was going to make something similar I might do tapped holes in a grid so I could use it for fixturing parts as well.

This part will come with pins that you install in your stock press plates by drilling a hole in the center. Look through the product gallery for clarification.

    Who said Harbor Freight has to stay rough!! Now - I see one more area where you can "gold plate" this press! ....might as well, it's already too nice to actually use it!!
    A pet-beef of mine with about ALL hydraulic jacks - the very loose mechanism at the handle/plunger - there is play EVERYwhere! If you look carefully - ...follow the handle end to see and measure - there is LOTS of lost motion there. Every time you move that handle there is a lot of way and nothing happening at the plunger....
    Whenever I get my press, THAT's where I start - eliminating all the wiggle and too big tolerances! If I can I machine new parts, take up play with springs and/or Bellville washers or ??? Imagine this thing working as smooth as a lathe or mill jackscrew wheel! Same goes for the release valve - either replace with a precision item or modify - that thing should move smoothly and fin tune-able....
    After that - only thing you can do is install a electric pump and control - or a warp-drive.....

    • @nubtools
      @nubtools  2 роки тому +1

      Warp drive! Yes!
      Now why did you go and do that to me?😫
      That’s is a great point about the plunger slop. You are right, if that was improved it would make each movement more effective and enjoyable. Just when I thought I was done…

      Well It started off incident enough and then I just kept going and it got a bit out of hand. I will have to say that this generation of the Harbor Freight press was surprisingly impressive compared to the older versions where it look like a chimpanzee with a welder made them. The biggest improvement was the construction material they used thicker material and all actual c-channel bars instead of made from press brake formed sheet metal.
      Thanks for watching!!!!

    • @bw162
