I agree that Mask of Mirrors is clunky to start but by book two it all comes together and its so worth it. If you like Mask of Mirrors even a bit - read book two. book two was so damn good and brought it all together
I know this is an old video, but I’m so happy to see someone talk about, let alone love, Baru Cormorant! I love that first one so much, the sequels are also really good but also boring in sections. I have such strong love for that series even though it has major flaws. I can’t decide if it’s a favorite series of all time yet! I thought it was a trilogy but it’s a quartet and the author is taking his sweet time with the last one for mental health reasons, I guess.
I also read Ten Thousand Stitches this month, and it was one of my favorites! I needed something cute, and it was the perfect book at the perfect time.
I really enjoyed The Wolf and The Woodsman, but I do see your points on your review. I personally loved it, it was my first read of 2022 and I gave it 4.5 stars. Most of the other books here are on my TBR, and I've just added in most of the rest! Nice reading month. I read Velvet Was the Night last month, and I ADORED it, such a great read! I also read Ali Hazelwood last month, both the Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain and I adored them both! Other favorites were Pachinko, Daisy Darker, and I finally finished Assassin's Apprentice and I loved it! It was a really good reading month for me, nothing under 4 stars.
I'm kind of glad you didn't like the Death of Jane Lawrence; I was so pumped and I found it to be a big let down (I also couldn't put up with MC), but I've just continuously heard such high praise for it! Definitely one of my lower reads this year.
In Sept I read: The Tower of Nero, Ordinary Monsters, Atlas Six, Husband Material, Heaven's Official Blessing vol 4, and The Jackal. I probably would have read more, but there were 3 books I ended up DNF-ing (which I don't typically do).
@@ameliaporter98 I DNFed a nonfiction book on Japan (I am a Japan nerd, so I like reading books about it, but I just couldn't get in to this one. It wasn't what I thought it was going to be). The other two were The Upside of Unrequited (I loved Simon vs the Homo Sapians Agenda and Leah on the Offbeat, but I just wasn't jiving with Upside), and Dragon's Promise. I enjoyed Six Crimson Cranes, though it had pacing issues, but the pacing in Dragon's Promise was so bad, imho. All the major conflicts were reduced to a few paragraphs, and it was all just incredibly rushed. So I skipped to the end and read the last couple of chapters lol.
The Hacienda, Anjelica Frankenstein Makes her Match, Book Lovers, A Court of Mists and Fury, The Huntress….Kate Quinn is excellent for historical fiction!
The Mask of Mirrors is one of my all-time favorite books! Perfect for me! It's so interesting that you found the world-building to be "clunky" - I found it to be so clear that if you dropped me into that world, I could navigate the streets and understand how the government works. I do agree that the magic was a bit too soft/vague, but by the end of the book I understood it better and there are 2 others books to go, so I was okay with that.
Ohhhh, I was hoping for a final review of The Goblin Emperor. You mentioned it at the end of August wrap up, and it was in a reading blog, but not yet finished both times. I hope you still loved it at the end!
Right? You will really know who’s the OG booktuber. The newer ones keep moving the boo that you can’t read the title and author. Smh. ❤ this girl. Been a fan for years.
@@twinkiddoe9325 EXACTLY!!!!!!! 😁 ....I feel like i have to take a pill of dramamine each time i watch someone's video!! Very frustrating...but our girl is super good and she doesn't do that !
My favorite reads in September The collective by alyson Gaylin Swan song by Robert mccammon the book totally reminds me of the stand by Stephen king but it's way better
I'm glad that Babel brought these topics to a wider audience. I didn't love its execution and would have rather read non-fiction about the subjects or at the least historical fiction. I found the fantasy aspects served to confuse the reality of the colonialism/industrial revolution/racism/sexism/revolutionary theory for me. It also almost understated the actual brutality and horror associated with this time period compared with the real history. But again, I'm glad it's (hopefully) making people think as much as I didn't particularly enjoy it.

Great book recommendations 😊
If Doctor Moreau wasn't your favorite Silvia Moreno-Garcia book, what would you say your favorite one has been so far?
You should check out Immortals: The First Ten by DC Sargent!
I truly enjoy your videos and how passionate you are but man I got 8 ads on this video
