I must admit I can’t stop laughing at his best efforts. But while it’s all fun and games, this video may come across as, “it’s ok and cool to be bad at your mother tongue” - which I’m not sure if it’s sending the right message to younger audience. As an adult who has to use Mandarin at work at times, I regret not putting in more effort when I was in school. I definitely would not want my juniors to think it’s cool to be bad at Mandarin. In fact, it’s cooler if you’re good at Mandarin, it opens more doors for you. Perhaps there could be a series that seriously focuses on improving the talent’s Mandarin skills - not a one-off Mandarin workshop but say a 30-day challenge like Michelle Khare. All the best D-Jin!
Some of Xixi's Chinese pronunciation/grammar isn't that right too, it's 站姿(zi, not zhi) & 对着镜头向blah blah instead of 对镜头上blah blah (in the context of addressing the viewers). Interesting content though, really shows how much emphasis was given to the English language in the past 1-2 decades.
