  • In each episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty Money, Hammered, Against the Grain, Trash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy.
In this episode, DiResta creates a toolbox using the wood reclaimed from an old pallet.

I very much appreciate the speed at which you show these videos. I can't sit and watch a tool box be made for an hour, but I can in five minutes. Great work. Thanks for sharing.

I love pallets. Our local hardware shop has a big area out the back where they put their pallets, and people are allowed to take as many as they want for free. Most are pine, but sometimes you get some really interesting wood in them.
With hardly any effort - as you've shown - you can get some really nice looking timber that has a rustic feel to it. Some of the things I've made out of pallet timber is amazing. Shelves, tables, cupboards, side boards etc.
Great to see you encouraging this sort of recycling, Jimmy!

Good work as usual.. This may sound silly, but sometimes I miss plane, saw, and chisel joinery. Just something about knowing the tools on a deeper level. We've all seen knock out work from both camps of course. Maybe I'll go tune mine old stuff up and remember why I put it away.

Hey Jimmy... this may be a stupid question to an old video, but... What is holding the two end cap boards, on each side, together besides wood glue? I saw you used brad nails for the bottom and side pieces, but should the wood glue fail under the weight of tools, the end caps will split and ruin the whole box. That aside it is a beautiful piece that would be great for decoration. You do good work!
