- Rabat is the capital of Morocco and its main administrative and political center of the country, as well as the fourth imperial city.
It is a curious mixture of the historical tradition of the past and established modernity. it was founded by abd al-mumin in the 17th century and used its kasbah as a base to fight against the spanish.
Rabat is located on the Atlantic coast of the country.

My family and I do visit Morocco every other year. We visited so far many cities like Casablanca Fez Meknes Marrakech Agadir Assilah Tangier and of course the Capital! I will tell the food is really great, the service everywhere you go is wonderful , and the people are are very smart; they know exactly what they are doing when it comes to tourism business. I visited Morocco in 2014 and stayed in Rabat for a week. It’s one of the most beautiful places I ever visited and the local people are so nice and friendly.

Rabat history goes back to 3000 yrs, was built in the 10th century. During El Mouahidin dynasty it became the Capital of Morocco in the 12th century from there they orchestrated the invasion of all North Africa and Spain …It’s a very special city. The old town and the Kasbas ❤ all renovated and looks almost new without losing its authenticity.

Looks like many of the streets have been converted over to pedestrian plazas, traffic limited to only a few broad thoroughfares, modern mass transit to get you anywhere you need to go, and all the merchants and eateries are independents rather than outlets for large corporate chains. Seems quite civilised and nice. The city is quieter and more tranquil without traffic clogging up every street and passage, and that alone is much more of a pleasant urban environment than you get in any American city. I'm sure the air quality must be much better as well.

Not all of Morocco sadly... Most of Morocco's revenue flows north through Rabat... while other regions/city's are left with the scraps. Rabat is surely not representative for the whole of Morocco! Been to Essaouira this year, the city had the most visitors/tourists this year in it's history. But the city isn't as tidy/clean as it used to be. A lot of influx from people who are not locals. Trying to profit also... Not much investing in infrastructure although it is (still) a favorite destination. It looks to me, like Rabat is dumping the 'bidonville' problem in the southern areas like Agadir, Ourika, Essaouira etc. Morocco is moving forward, but not equally divided!

True. I visited Finland, I was shocked how bare it is and that was Helsinki. Apart from the center, nice fish dishes and good looking women there was nothing else. However as a tourist people were really nice to me. I enjoyed my visit in nature was fantastic and I was lucky with the weather.
