DISCLAIMER
This video really didn't want to be made. Firstly, I wasn't able to record footage of Thief 2X with Shadowplay, probably because of the menus being in 800x600 while the game was still 1080p. None of my other recording solutions worked either. I ended up having to recycle footage from my previous Thief 2 video. Sorry about that.
Secondly, the ending audio just didn't seem to want to work properly. You'll notice a small skip right as the credits music stops, and believe me, it was much worse before I spent some time trying to fix it. Sorry about that too.
Mods are the purest way fans of a game can express their love for it. They give the developers the opportunity to show off everything that they think makes their favorite games special, while iterating and expanding on the ideas that those games present. When game devs have moved on to new projects, mod teams are the only ones keeping the spirit of classic games alive and fresh. Thanks for all the hard work modders, it's all because of your generosity that your fellow fans get to play even more of the game we love.
The mods mentioned in this video are:

The music in this video is from the Mother 3 Soundtrack, sorry about the glitches in the ending music.
Modders really are incredible, it's sad that mod support is becoming less and less common as it's a big reason a lot of my favorite games still have life in them, even decades later.
T2X really feels like a third part of the two original games. It also had not just one but two fantastically terrifying undead-themed levels - Down Among Dead Men and The Cure, which are highly comparable to Down In The Bonehoard/Return To The Cathedral and Robbing the Cradle.
Thief 2X was my first fan mission I played for Thief. I absolutely loved it. I've played 3-4 other ones but have all the highest rated ones downloaded. These games are so special. Still to this day I have never been more immersed into a game as with these. I mean like I feel I was literally in these places, hiding benind corners and listening to guards. Even with all these fancy modern day graphics decades later this now primitive game engulfs me in its atmosphere and sense of place.
I really wish that there were more full remakes of these early immersive sims. At minimum they all deserve the nightdive treatment so that there are less compatibility issues, but with remakes of SS1 coming out like the official one and a lesser-known fanmade one called citadel it just makes me think, what if I could play thief, or deus ex, or SS2 and not always have the feeling of tiny bits of frustration from the games having outdated controls and having convoluted UI's. there are some fan made stuff but no full conversions or rebuilds, I have always wondered if it would be a good thing to try myself, but even one of these would probably be way too large of a project for a beginner.
Thanks, LH. I just learned about Thief 2X (yeah, I'm slow). But really, thank you for saying what so many of us feel. It's bitter sweet. I'm excited for new content, which also makes me sad, knowing that this is the only way we get to continue the story of Thief. But the modders - we cannot thank them enough, but your words get us a little bit closer. Thanks for that, and thank you to all the modders who do this purely for the love of the game. You're all the best Taffers one could hope to encounter in the shadows of the dank and dark city...
I hope the old thief games are remastered or something of the sort, I really want to play these games with some up to date graphics
There are excellent texture mods for the trilogy. But I understand what you mean, in both form and function the games could use a lift up :D
I really enjoyed this video, loved the background music too (I will quite soon be starting my first proper/full Thief 1 playthrough with the TFix patch). Subbed. :)
Here's a translation of the fix:
1. Carry out a clean installation of Thief 2.
2. Install TafferPatcher and create FMs folder in game directory.
3. Download Thief 2X HD Mod v1.2, extract the file in a new folder under FMs (eg. mine is G:\GOG Games\Thief 2 - The Metal Age\FMs\T2X) and launch using FMSel.
TafferPatcher: www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106
Thief 2X HD: www.moddb.com/mods/thief-2x-hd-texture-mod
Instructions on how to launch FMSel can be found in \Thief 2 - The Metal Age\doc\FMSel.pdf
Awesome! I loved thief2x so much, I'll definitely be checking this out soon
@@Leadhead I would reccomend using T2fix instead, as it is a newer & updated version of Taffpatcher which has not been updated anymore.
There is also The Dark Mod.
You lost me at 3:30 - Thief benefits greatly from the diversity of possible mission types, let alone that mix things up (Scarlet Cascabel for example). Each to their own of course, but personally I found T2s shift away from the darker elements of the first game meant it lost out in diversity of mission design.
yall know that if I had the money, I would buy both thief games.
I got both for less than 90 cents
Edit: Yay Steam sales
I've Never played the old thief :(
try it!
I think you can run T2X with dgvoodoo2 and force 1920x1080 always. Haven't tried it yet, though.
Might be an alternative to the HD version just so you can play with the original graphics.
Nevermind that. I plan on making a separate version without all the enhancements based on the HD version except for the fixed lightmaps.
No need to use the old 1.1 version.
Thief The Dark Project is in every way superior to Thief 2.
Fight me.
I like DP more but its not better than MA in EVERY way.
