    What a wonderful bunch of Promise! Those blooms and baby fruits are building excitement for the harvest. My allysum stayed very small, but still bloomed and I agree how lovely those tiny flowers are. Also, it seems your elderberries are ahead of ours here in NW Georgia - ours are only just starting to open. It's so fun to see how, even though we are in a very similar area of the country, different plants just go at their own timing and everything is still beautiful!

    I'm having such a a hard time 😂 I'm 22 I bought a 103 year old house in the fall. Our yard is an absolute mess, the lady who lived here I guess chaos gardened. Now I have trout lilies, strawberries, raspberries, wild chives, ditch lilies, peonies, and a few randoms ALL over my yard. I didn't have a good idea until the last two weeks, I live in MI UP and our trees are only just getting full leaves. And on top of all that I don't even own a lawn mower yet! Wish me luck this year attempting to organize 😂

      To this lady that bought a 105 yr old place...I would start pulling out the weeds as in digging them up as U may find old fashion plants come back to life and resurface wait until flower I think there is an App that will tell name of plant they could be very rear so you may want to get incontact with a specialist company or hertiage group as they may want them for future generations...
      But, the other plants U have put in your message you may want to dig them up after the first year and spilt them and plant new places...they sound lovely..just don't use a tructor to dig up the whole yard as that would be a shame...just see want pops up...😂❤😂❤goodluck...I live in Aust so I am getting into Winter but we don't get snow here just gets cold...😅😅😅

    Your beds look amazing, despite all the rain/hail. It's too bad about the lettuce. Your greenhouse sure is placed the correct direction. My Son will be stationed near you at Ft. Knox, starting in November. Looks like it's a couple hours from you. I'll try to stop by over the next couple years to say hello! Hope your weather is better soon. Cheers Heather!

    We have Couch grass in the way you have Bermuda grass, and it is just as much a pain to keep under control. When Jess first moved to their new place she made a video about it, and like I said to her, it's best to think of those perennials literally as solar energy stores, with the leaves as solar panels, the root systems as the battery that they are constantly charging to keep producing more solar panels. Keep ripping out the solar panels and after a while the battery gets weak, then dies. The problem is which one of us is faster, the plant, or us? Annoyingly, the plants only have to use their time popping up in the places we don't want them, and often sulking in the places we do 🤣

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  4 місяці тому +2

      With the Bermuda too it has solar panels outside the bed and sends the batteries under it to get to the rich soil of the garden. It is hard to get rid of fully because it will send those roots from afar!

    Elderflower syrup is very popular on the Continent, especially in eastern Europe. And it means you can store it and enjoy the taste of spring through the winter months. Would highly recommend as an easy way to process a lot of elderflower.

    We till our shed cleanings right into the annual garden space (clay) off season and the soil is rich and ready to grow in season. In our food forest we put down mulch for years which broke down surprisingly well. The key with getting clay ready to grow in the forested garden is compost tea. Had an organic growing specialist tell me that it caused the horizontally stratified clay soil to become more vertical, changing the nature of the soil. I made the tea a couple of years but found a shortcut. I cart the somewhat aged shed cleanings over directly and place around the plants. The rains make continual compost tea. Everything grows very well. Fewer pests, too.

      We had two, one got hit by a car and the other one died in the neighbor's yard. We are guessing she got into a poisoned mouse/rat. Even if we didn't poison the neighbors always will (they have to and I get it) and their beautiful barn is very close to our property. It's just not safe for a cat outdoors here.

If it would stop raining for a few days I could get all of my plants and flowers out of my greenhouse. Fingers crossed I get my potatoes and onions into there new raised beds this weekend.
