The first time I heard Blackbriar I instantly fell in love with Zora's voice! I find it incredibly enchanting and usually brings a tear to my eye. You can go through their entire catalog and not find a bad song! I hope you react to more of their music.
Please do their 'Snow White and Rose Red'. You get double the awesomeness with both Zora Cock AND Ulli Perhonen who has a deeper more operatic voice that compliments Zora so well. The video is absolutely gorgeous as well.
I love the original story of Snow White and Rose Red, they were two sisters... And I love love love this song! A duet of two women, sang to/ about eachother, that is rare as well.
Greetz from the Netherlands. Land of Blackbriar :) Zora has an amazing voice and their vids all seem connected somehow, love it Many of the songs have a siren theme, so ye, accurate analysis 😊
Yep, a Siren in this song. In "The seance", a ghost. (And she uses a lovely and funny technique to "haunt" us 😁). In "Weakness and lust", a witch. I suggest you keep going with these two, if you've liked what you experienced...
yes please more blackbriar please! Selkie, The Séance, Cry of a Banshee, I'd Rather Burn, all of those are great choices for next songs... Cry of a Banshee and I'd Rather Burn also have wonderful acoustic versions on youtube. Zora has an amazing voice and i would love to see more of her on this channel
Cause of Shipwreck is one of my favorite recent albums. I came to them through Nightwish and other symphonic metal, but they're offering a completely different gothic/Victorian vibe I really love. The lyrics and the music are a perfect marriage of artistic intent.
I've been pushing Blackbriar to all the reaction channels for about 5 years now, and now you and Elizabeth (The Charismatic Voice) have both done videos on them in quick succession, now I just need Scardust to get picked up Also to note, Blackbriar have done an acoustic studio session of Hear You Scream, it's one of the most impressive songs they've ever done particularly in terms of Zora's vocals, and the whole video is focused on her face, but never made it into an EP or album
oh, yes... I concur... especially since Noa from Scardust is releasing her onetake singthrough of Tantibus2 in a few minutes! Perfect time for a reaction to them... ua-cam.com/video/zU2bjDzoySw/v-deo.html
Hi Julia, Nice to see you react to Blackbriar, a band from my hometown Assen (in the northern region of the Netherlands). Fun fact: the silver grey haired doctor in this video is in fact Marco Out, the Mayor of Assen, playing a guest roll. 👍😉
Seeing Blackbriar and Zora on Julia's channel made my day! Can't wait to hear more of her thoughts on a great band and awesome singer. I hope they make Julia as happy as they make me.
Love Blackbriar and Zora. Zora has such a haunting voice. If you want to hear more wicked flexibility, "The Seancè", to watch Zora act with her eyes, "Weakness and Lust" music video.
Next stop for more of this stunningly creepy & haunting ocean stuff: "Blackbriar - Weakness and Lust (Official Music Video)" - ua-cam.com/video/dcNCIewWhBs/v-deo.html Cheers from Amsterdam! 🖤🤘
YES!! Blackbriar deserve more reactions, and Zora deserves more vocal analysis, so thank you! One of their EPs was called Fractured Fairytales, which describes the majority of their songs on the surface - but underneath a lot of them are (at least partly) about patriarchy and the effect it has had on women through the centuries. You can just enjoy the magical storytelling, or you can appreciate that and the underlying message too. It probably culminates in _Weakness_ _and_ _Lust,_ which is basically a list of all the things men have traditionally said about women to excuse their own issues. My absolute favourite, however, is _Lilith_ _Be_ _Gone,_ about Adam's first wife. Unfortunately I don't know of any live concert footage better than cellphone quality; however they have done a number of professional videos of live acoustic performances. From a vocal coach perpective the best is probably _Hear_ _You_ _Scream_ because you have an unobstructed 45° view of her and can see how she holds herself throughout. It's a good song, but very different from _Arms_ _of_ _the_ _Ocean_ (which they have also done acoustically, including an outtake at the end). Oh, and for melisma, you can't beat _Until_ _Eternity_ or _The_ _Seance!_ Enjoy your new rabbithole!
Gothic Metal, always a fun genre. If you want to stay in the Gothic corner I can very much suggest Cammie Gilbert from Oceans of Slumber. She made it onto the last Ayreon album, she's that good :P A Return To The Earth Below is a really good introduction I'd say.
Hi, i have following Blackbriar now for quiet some time. Her voice reminds me of Kate Bush. Light and dark, gothic with also some symphonic metal vibes.
So glad you liked it! Zora is a wonderful singer, and Blackbriar songs highlight it so much. Hope to see your reaction of more of their songs. Thank you for this one 🖤 The Séance is vocally even more eerie and flabbergasting, I tell you! You’ll love it :)
So glad you checked out Blackbriar, I have been listening to them for a while and Zora's haunting vocals drew me in from first listen so it is interesting to hear your take on her vocal approach.
Zora is magical live The Séance live Acoustic version is incredible. And has a little story to it. Blackbriar released the Séance music video. Almost one year later The band was going to shoot another video but it fell through they couldn't get the location. Scrambling what to do They decided to do The Séance Acoustic And Miraculously they were able to shoot it in the same mansion One year late. So the live acoustic version Is shot in the same mansion With Zora wearing the authentic Victorian nightgown In the original video..
Beautiful vocals, loved the intro to this.. Haven't listened to the band before, but have heard of them, I'm going to check them out and anything else Zora might be on..
Yes, finally music from Blackbriar with the beautiful singing of Zora Cock... love it!!! 😍😍😍 You should definitely listen to the songs 'Weaknes and Lust', 'Mortal Remains', 'The Séance', 'Preserved Roses' and... many more Julia. 😊😊 Zora's voice is hauntingly beautiful and perfect for the music they make. And, often not mentioned... their videos are amazing as well and (for me at least) are often just art!
Thanks again for introducing me to another interesting artist and for adding to my knowledge. Stylistically, she reminds me of Kate Bush, but twangier and at a higher pitch.
Almost time Blackriar get some love! For some special vocals: *Deadly Diminuendo* It's a lyric video with minor animation, but a vocal coach have to listen to this song at some point: ther's a vocal treat in it that's going undeservedly under everyone's radar!
As for the live version, dear Julia, you can listen to I’d Rather Burn, performed live last year with an orchestra too :) she also sings acoustic versions of their songs 🖤 and Deadly Diminuendo, also live (no official live recordings yet)
Their music slides through mythology, mysticism, and a bit of darkness. "Séance", "Fairy of the Bog", and "Selkie" are among the songs I listen to often.
Thank you for introducing me to Blackbriar! A great follow-up would be the acoustic version of this song, to better show what you are explaining (and answer some of your questions). There is also a bonus at the end I know you will enjoy 🙂 ua-cam.com/video/7L_L_-ePIKc/v-deo.html
Hi Julia😘great reaction . When i first heard Zora voice it left me speechless . Absolutely wonderful and sweet voice , just mesmerizing with it like a siren🥴🤪😵
Thank you so much for your analysis. I love it when someone explains to me why my heart is ready to explode whenever it gets the Zora vibes 😉 . If you love stories, great voices, epic music, Blackbriar is exactly that! Maybe, you should listen to "deadly diminuendo" because Zora uses special vocal techniques in this epic song. And for the live versions, there is this one : "arms of the ocean (acoustic live)", but also "the séance (acoustic live)" / "I'd rather burn (acoustic live)" / "madwoman in the attic (acoustic live)" / "Cry of a Banshee (acoustic live)" / and also some old ones : "witching hour (acoustic live)" and "hear you scream (acoustic live)" Thanks again, and please don't stop there with this band! ❤❤
I love this band, and Zora especially. I recommend their songs: Deadly Diminuendo; I'd Rather Burn; and Snow White and Rose Red (with guest vocalist Ulli Perhonen of Snow White Blood).
I have been a huge fan of this band for years now. I love their music and their vibe so much. It's great to see them finally appearing on your channel!
I live near them. Seen them all a few times at parties at a friend, they're really nice people. Nice to see them on channels like this! Hope they get even bigger.
Try the séamce and Snow white & Rose red from her and the band, you will hear a voice I have never heard before, out of this world. Also Until eternity, Weakness and lust, My soul demise, Crimson faces and I'd rather burn. I got a lot of other suggestions for you as well....
In this song, my interpretation is that Zora portrays a siren. Siren's (in Greek mythology) lure people to their death in the ocean via their haunting songs. On the EP this song is from ("We'd Rather Burn"), the preceding song is "Cry of a Banshee" - the banshee's song is a harbinger of one's death. So the songs are kind of related. For Zora's amazing vocals, please consider the following songs by Blackbriar, all available on UA-cam The Seance - recorded version or the acoustic live version - both are incredible My Soul's Demise - from their new (not yet released) second album, especially the section after 3:00 Deadly Diminuendo - recorded or live I thought your analysis was excellent. I think their production is particularly good, and all of her band members provide what I think is excellent accompaniment, including for example the always attractive piano by Ruben Wijga.
Thank you so much for this, Julia. I really feel that Blackbriar deserve to reach a wider audience. I would describe the Blackbriar sound and vibe as gothic metal, BTW. It's interesting that you liken Zora to an actual siren : they have an album called The Cause of Shipwreck. They have a series of acoustic live versions on UA-cam, including Arms of the Ocean. Just Zora and a pianist. Zora's vocals are front and centre with no BVs and very little instrumentation. Perfect for a deep-dive vocal analysis. Other songs of theirs that I'd recommend include : Until Eternity Mortal Remains Madwoman in the Attic Beautiful Delerium I'd Rather Burn
Her voice is incredible! Her look is right for the siren song too. Coincidentally, her face reminds me a bit of Belgian actress Eline Powell (originally Pauwels) who played in the TV series Siren.
13:21 As far as I know, every Blackbriar song begins with a writing process on Zora's part. She is an avid reader, and when she finds inspiring ideas in her reading, she turns them into lyrics. Then she composes and sings the main melodies for her lyrics, after which the drummer and co-founder of the band creates the basis for the musical arrangement. And each member finalizes the whole thing. (I'm not saying it's exactly like that, I've just read and listened to some interviews and am making assumptions). But this creative process is for me the best thing about Blackbriar that makes their songs exceptional! And it's kind of the opposite of the usual creative process in metal: start with guitar riffs, then add gibberish vocals, then create lyrics...
I think she was just going with the Siren thing which is why she killed him. Leonardo da Vinci wrote of them in his notebooks, stating "The siren sings so sweetly that she lulls the mariners to sleep; then she climbs upon the ships and kills the sleeping mariners." so, my guess is since he was no long on a ship she just followed him to kill him. As far as other songs by Blackbriar i'd recommend "Weakness and Lust" "Fairy of the Bog" and "Beautiful Delirium " if you'd like something a bit different vocally i'd recommend "Ready to Kill" as for a live version here is a live acoustic version of Arms of the ocean ua-cam.com/video/7L_L_-ePIKc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BlackbriarMusic
Just another reaction on your reaction Julia... 😊😊🙂 If you like 'story telling' in songs, well I know for sure you gonna like more of Blackbriar. Just listen to songs like 'I'd Rather Burn', 'Selkie', 'The Séance' and 'Mortal Remains' (and others). And if you liked the twitch in Zora's eyes in this video I for sure recommend the video of 'Weaknes and Lust'. There she is really creepy at times!! Their music is all about haunting stories and the videos are alike. Sadly they don't have real live performance videos, but they do have some really great accoustic versions of a few songs... you should watch/listen to those! 🙂🙂😊
Lol, it’s incredible ! I discovered your channel the day before yesterday and was waiting for the next video (so, this one !) to send you this message as a comment : « Hello Julia! I just discovered your wonderful channel through UA-cam recommendations. I am impressed by so many brilliant analyses of such remarkable bands and singers. There is just one missing reaction on Blackbriar (let's say Blackbriar - Preserved Roses [Official Lyric Video] because there are not too many reaction videos of it, but you can choose any song from their channel, because Blackbriar never makes bad songs, it's a fact: they all give you chills). Thank you for considering the request from a brand new subscriber ! 😉 » It seems we’re connected, lol ! Looking forward to tonight !!!
Very cool to see you get to Blackbriar! I love 'em, how they write songs about folklore and ghost stories, and sell that dark, eerie vibe through the music and especially Zora's vocals. I don't think there's any really great live video? Denise Hofs uploaded some fan-cam that wasn't bad on her channel (especially the later ones) a while ago. Blackbriar announced not too long ago that they signed with a major label (I can't remember which off the top of my head), and one thing I'm hoping for there is some great quality live video. Maybe with the Euro festival season?
Instant follow. You are both informative by how many points you dissect the music, and also very adorable. I love Blackbriar, and Im glad I noticed you through them. that "She is gorgeous, and then she is just like -meh-" was hilarious. You are a joy to watch.
Zora’s vocals are so unique. Singing her music has helped me expand so much as a vocalist because it’s always a challenge. Everything she writes is so interesting to listen to.
Julia, there is a recording of the whole show (on YT) they did last year in TivoliVredenburg. Recorded on a phone but the sound is quite good. Although being there, like I was, is of course so much better. And yes, they have lots of stories.
Right when I was about to go to bed and you hit me with Blackbriar.... damn you ;-) And if you are to do more Blackbriar I would suggest I'd rather burn
I'm not sure why. But she reminds me of a younger version of Taja from Nightwish. Even the way she looks. That sort of mysterious look. I know it's not the same But that's just what I felt when I saw her.
The the first songs that come to mind for me to push you toward are Beautiful Delirium, Until Eternity, I'd Rather Burn, Preserved Roses and Snow White Rose Red.
First video from the new editingroom? Or old fashioned kitchentable? Anyway let’s enjoy this “blackbriar” song, don’t think I ever heard or played them.
Zora's storytelling thru voice and face acting is immense. Weakness and Lust shows this even more so. Blackbriar songs are wrapped in tales of folklore and lost female voices. Fairy of the Bog gives a voice to the Lady of Yde. Lilith Begone, Confess, Weakness and Lust, and I'd Rather Burn give a tale of a woman who sought equaity being accused, condemned, giving a mocking confession and finally cursing her executioners
To get a really amazing contrast on smooth vocals on a brutal dark metal sound: Go for Katatonia! For example the song "Liberation" or "Onward Into Battle"
Let's see what's so AF in this according to Julia. Neva heard this before either. Have to say I liked it, now we need to get Charismatic "Elizabeth" Voice to react to this band. And I need to know if there are some other good songs by this band. So I take suggestions too.
Odd release time for Julia, that crazed look on her face .....do I detect an April Fool's Day prank? Possibly a live collab with a reactor in a different time zone? Perhaps a live interview with the band?....I dunno but IIRC Julia's releases are usually 900 am EST (New York) time......."The game is afoot"!.....actually I have no idea if they celebrate April Fools Day in Australia, but given Ms. Julia's proclivity for holiday surprises...........
Thank you SO much for this amazing reaction video, Julia! Wow! I've been watching this with a huge smile on my face, thank you! Love, Zora
So, we have one thing in common ! 😊 (Not to mention the love for the same music : yours...)
Verdient:) en aangezien alle reviewers elkaar lijken te copieeren verwacht ik er meer. Promoot jullie al jaren 😊
Thank you so much for the music!
She is on to you Zora, why did she wait so long to listen to you, I wish Black Briar was around during my teen yrs, instead of Evanescense.
the singers talent is just unreal
Today is Zora's birthday so what a nice present 🎁 happy birthday Zora.
Gothic horror/dark fantasy lyrics+haunting/ethereal vocals+heavy/symphonic instrumentation=the Blackbriar formula.
Zora's voice, the music, and the band are best described in two words, hauntingly beautiful.
And every single song is different, with stories in each one.
Yes!
I love the original story of Snow White and Rose Red, they were two sisters... And I love love love this song! A duet of two women, sang to/ about eachother, that is rare as well.
Greetz from the Netherlands. Land of Blackbriar :)
Zora has an amazing voice and their vids all seem connected somehow, love it
Many of the songs have a siren theme, so ye, accurate analysis 😊
Yep, a Siren in this song. In "The seance", a ghost. (And she uses a lovely and funny technique to "haunt" us 😁). In "Weakness and lust", a witch. I suggest you keep going with these two, if you've liked what you experienced...
A Selkie, a Succubus...she is inhuman and beyond it.
yes please more blackbriar please!
Zora has an insanely unique voice, it's amazing, i love it.
Cause of Shipwreck is one of my favorite recent albums. I came to them through Nightwish and other symphonic metal, but they're offering a completely different gothic/Victorian vibe I really love. The lyrics and the music are a perfect marriage of artistic intent.

Same here. Major epica fan, but they don't need pushing hehe. BR is still small but really good. Reminds me of Delain in the early days.
The Charismatic Voice has by now picked up Scardust, along with Patty Gurdy in one super excited swoop! :D
@@najrenchelf2751 I saw, Concrete Cages is great, but if you want to know just how capable Noa is you need Dials, Hits or Tantibus II
Yesss finally! And indeed what a fine birthday present for Zora
Hi Julia,
Nice to see you react to Blackbriar, a band from my hometown Assen (in the northern region of the Netherlands).
YEAH! Blackbriar deserves so much more recognition! Zora's voice is unique
Love Blackbriar and Zora. Zora has such a haunting voice. If you want to hear more wicked flexibility, "The Seancè", to watch Zora act with her eyes, "Weakness and Lust" music video.

Falling in love with Zora is A 50/50 proposition.
Either finding eternal love Until Eternity or ending up dead and alone at the bottom of the Ocean.
Lol.
Worth it😊
Is it bad that I'm like... perfectly fine with both? XD
Worth
Black Briar - Snow White and Rose Red(feat. Ulli Perhonen), Fractured Fairytale, Preserved Roses, Beautiful Delirium
The perfect funeral song is haunting 'Deadly Diminuendo'
YES!! Blackbriar deserve more reactions, and Zora deserves more vocal analysis, so thank you! Awesome to see another dutch vocalist to lure you in.
Looking forward to the next video on Blackbriar!
If you liked this Blackbriar song, u're going to love "The seance". Also she can do growl in "Ready to kill". Greetings from Spain 😊
Smashing reaction young lady.
So glad you checked out Blackbriar, I have been listening to them for a while and Zora's haunting vocals drew me in from first listen so it is interesting to hear your take on her vocal approach.
Julia, you should check out The Seance from them. Another great masterpiece from Blackbriar
Oh, wonderful gothic metal vibes, very delicate and haunting. Your goofy mood in this video made me chuckle on a rainy day 😊
I don't know why she killed him, but the vocal range she uses to drown him deeper is just ❤❤
I think in the video Zora is death
Because she's a siren
Zora is magical live
The Séance live Acoustic version is incredible.
And has a little story to it.
Blackbriar released the Séance music video.
Almost one year later
The band was going to shoot another video but it fell through they couldn't get the location.
Scrambling what to do
They decided to do
The Séance Acoustic
And Miraculously they were able to shoot it in the same mansion One year late. So the live acoustic version Is shot in the same mansion With Zora wearing the authentic Victorian nightgown In the original video..
Beautiful vocals, loved the intro to this..
Haven't listened to the band before, but have heard of them, I'm going to check them out and anything else Zora might be on..
👍 you won’t regret ! Btw, Zora once said : « Blackbriar is my life », she does few things (collabs, …) aside blackbriar, but very very few.
If you're looking for creepy/unsettling, try The Seance
Yes, finally music from Blackbriar with the beautiful singing of Zora Cock... love it!!! 😍😍😍
You should definitely listen to the songs 'Weaknes and Lust', 'Mortal Remains', 'The Séance', 'Preserved Roses' and... many more Julia. 😊😊
Zora's voice is hauntingly beautiful and perfect for the music they make. And, often not mentioned... their videos are amazing as well and (for me at least) are often just art!

Oh yess so happy to see you getting enchanted by Zora's voice.
And for the live versions, there is this one : "arms of the ocean (acoustic live)", but also "the séance (acoustic live)" / "I'd rather burn (acoustic live)" / "madwoman in the attic (acoustic live)" / "Cry of a Banshee (acoustic live)" / and also some old ones : "witching hour (acoustic live)" and "hear you scream (acoustic live)"
Thanks again, and please don't stop there with this band!
❤❤
I love this band, and Zora especially. I recommend their songs: Deadly Diminuendo; I'd Rather Burn; and Snow White and Rose Red (with guest vocalist Ulli Perhonen of Snow White Blood).
Everyone please recommend Selkie from Blackbriar to her! It is so beautiful
Oh and Snow White and Rose Red too!!
I have been a huge fan of this band for years now. I love their music and their vibe so much. It's great to see them finally appearing on your channel!

For Zora's amazing vocals, please consider the following songs by Blackbriar, all available on UA-cam
The Seance - recorded version or the acoustic live version - both are incredible
My Soul's Demise - from their new (not yet released) second album, especially the section after 3:00
Deadly Diminuendo - recorded or live
I thought your analysis was excellent. I think their production is particularly good, and all of her band members provide what I think is excellent accompaniment, including for example the always attractive piano by Ruben Wijga.
Thank you so much for this, Julia. I really feel that Blackbriar deserve to reach a wider audience.

My favourite band. Gotta get Julia to some Burning Witches soon
13:21 As far as I know, every Blackbriar song begins with a writing process on Zora's part. She is an avid reader, and when she finds inspiring ideas in her reading, she turns them into lyrics.
If you like 'story telling' in songs, well I know for sure you gonna like more of Blackbriar.
I discovered your channel the day before yesterday and was waiting for the next video (so, this one !) to send you this message as a comment :
« Hello Julia!
It seems we’re connected, lol !
Nuclear Blast.
I think "Walking over my Grave" should demonstrate Zora's voice in a bit of a deeper register nicely - equally spooky! :D
I am so thankful if
Its impossible for me to
Make it, Thank you Julia.
Instant follow. You are both informative by how many points you dissect the music, and also very adorable. I love Blackbriar, and Im glad I noticed you through them. that "She is gorgeous, and then she is just like -meh-" was hilarious. You are a joy to watch.
'Until eternity' is by far my favorite from Blackbriar. It gives me goosebumps everytime. Please Please check it out.
Siren ! thats what this Voice is ! ... a Gothical Marmaid !
::: such a sacred gift :: Nilon's visions of Nora :: comprehension's bloom :: afternoon understanding :: between the rocks in shadow :::
Right when I was about to go to bed and you hit me with Blackbriar.... damn you ;-)
And if you are to do more Blackbriar I would suggest I'd rather burn
ps. there are worse ways to pass than being cuddled to death by a redhead
If you want to hear her lower, listen to "Madwoman in the attick" live / acoustic.
Honestly, I love most of this band's songs, they're the best.
I'm sold.
She could pull off Wuthering Heights
I'm not sure why. But she reminds me of a younger version of Taja
from Nightwish. Even the way she looks. That sort of mysterious look.
I know it's not the same
But that's just what I felt when I saw her.
Just listened to Shreya Ghoshal per your suggestion. Hypnotic and mesmerizing!!!! The similarity to Zora is clear!!
You might enjoy this live acoustic performance they did. Just Zora with piano accompaniement: ua-cam.com/video/-NkllOcbNQQ/v-deo.html
Blackbriar is legit awesome.
Sacred Outcry - The Voyage Brilliant guitar playing and the vocals...... epic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blackbriar is on stage at the moment, but I'm sure as soon as they can, they'll leave you a little gentle comment!😊
Omg!!!!!!! There gonna be live in dallas texas!!!!!!! Out freaking standing
Cant wait to see more Blackbriar reactions ❤
Her voice is the definition of “ping.” Just absolutely cuts through the noise.
To get a really amazing contrast on smooth vocals on a brutal dark metal sound: Go for Katatonia! For example the song "Liberation" or "Onward Into Battle"
First time i've heard them too. So good
13:40 Julia this composition has a lot in common with performances by Simone and Epica. The exercise in contracts jump out in both.
Let's see what's so AF in this according to Julia.
Neva heard this before either.
Have to say I liked it, now we need to get Charismatic "Elizabeth" Voice to react to this band. And I need to know if there are some other good songs by this band.
So I take suggestions too.
Elizabeth already reacted to them six months ago: ua-cam.com/video/AAXKOjfkSu0/v-deo.html
Julia in grogu shirt reacting to Zora tooo much cuteness! Already my fave redheads
Her voice reminds me of Aurora's, the same lightness and yet piercing voice, and also high notes
Zora is just like her voice - spooky and adorable! 🖤🤍❤
Yeah, if Zora were a siren... I'm jumping in, I'm sorry! XD
Zora is the most beautiful that happen to music in Long Long time..
I can't wait for this 😍
If you dig that folk/contemporary vibe I'd recommend Fair to Midland. Super underappreciated band. Musical chairs would be a good place to start
7:55 Julia says "Please Mama I want some more"
Great song, reminded me of Nina Hagen’s cover with Apolyptica of Rammsteins “Seemann”
Check out some of their acoustic versions
