Aloha,

Nice test, just to back your test resultat. According to the manual the SPRY has a range of 800 m . The RTH uses the controller gps to find its Home point, If you move with the controller, it changes its home too. The video link is best with the drone flying away from you. The condensation can be resolved by using nano coatings and anti fog . You can adjust your circle radius while in action. IMU calibration warning comes every time you attemp startup on an unlevel surface or rough wave water, starting from a level surface and not disarming in water reduces this problem.
Another awesome review Dustin. I must say I am very impressed with what's on offer these days as far as tech's concerned. Keep these awesome reviews coming brother!
What a drone Dustin. Looks great and I think looks cool in those bright orange colours. I must say my friend you do go beyond the call of duty for us spectators- first time I've seen a reviewer go in the sea for us lol. Nice one. Great video my friend. Cheers :)
Great video! I bought a SPRY recently, and experienced the same shut down (IMU Calibration) even with newly charged batteries. Not even slamming into the water, just a soft landing. One time it will seem to be working fine after a water landing, and takes off like it should. Then another time it will shut down. Checked for water inside, and it was dry. It seems to do okay with just brief touches in the water, but floating will cause the shut down. I sent an email to Swellpro to which they responded with a question or two, but I haven’t followed up. Mainly because I wrecked it on my pool hardscape after getting caught in a tree. Pilot error. Expensive pilot error. Anyways, I will be making a UA-cam of my rebuilding effort. I ordered up a new body. You can get them directly from Swellpro by contacting them, and they will email an invoice. I intend to bring my SPRY with me on my upcoming trip to Maui, and have it follow us snorkeling. Once again, great job on you’re video! BTW: Which FPV goggles are you using?
I think I linked the goggles in description. Swellpro has sent me some. Firmware to test for fixing the IMU error but haven't tested yet.
Yes, after recent updates the issue went away for me.
Man this is what i need!!!!! Cleveland has really bad weather most of the year and this would allow me 2 fly in any weather !!! I really like this a lot!!!!! Its raining right now where i live and i wanted 2 fly today sooo bad!!!! My 9 month old baby girl has a cold and so do i......... Man i feel like crap!!! Can not wait 4 this to pass!!!!! I hate being sick!!! But everyone knows flying drones helps get rid of a cold!!!!!!!!! Man that water looked so beautiful!!! AMAZING flight footage my friend!!!!!!!!!!
Great Channel!!
👍😀👍
Get well soon. It is pretty awesome not to worry about weather or water with this one.
I've kept seeing this thing around and wondered how it actually worked. Great video. I've been watching your videos for a long time and fb. Inspired me to start my own channel. Keep up the good work bud.
Good to know it handles salt water well thanks for putting it through it's paces. I would probably land it in fresh water intentionally most of the time. Looks like a good size drone for launching from a kayak and landing in the water next to the kayak.
I still have the splashdrone 2 from years ago and it still looks new even after lots of saltwater use. Flushing with freshwater afterwards is key. If your only using in freshwater , just dry it before storage 👍
Maybe if you threw the controller in the water again it would help the foggy screen. :) So what you saying Dustin is that you can fly this bird while under water? That's cool!.
Basically the Spry is designed to be used off a boat so the RTH comes back to the controller. A boat might drift and if the drone came back to takeoff point it would be hard to find in any kind of wave action. One word of caution is because it is sealed and has minimal space inside the internal pressure would build up if it weren't for the breathable membrane. The downside is in the reverse; if it is hot and you land abruptly in the water the contraction causes negative pressure inside the body which wants to suck water in. I use a silicone lubricant /sealant on the top gasket and be sure the foam under the membrane has not trapped any water that may have been sucked through the membrane. It might be a good idea to swap that foam out between flights. The new addition has the vent up under the antenna rather than on the lid which is higher than on the lid. Because the 2.4 gig fcontrol antenna is underwater when in the water I would not recommend disarming in the water unless right next to you. Radio signals don't penetrate water well.
You make this hobby look so fun!
Great video Dustin! Hoping for some more fixed wing reviews in the future too
Thanks, yes have a few in the pipeline 👍
I see this waterproof ability just as safety feature for flying over the water. Just in case if happens that drone fall into the water, that the drone stays O.K. I don't se a lot of use for intentional dropping in the water. It looks that could easily happens that then is need to go into the water to get a drone.
Love it! I've been looking forward to this:)
Pretty good with this one, Video was okay. I would never try this one because it seems that you need to be a great pilot like yourself in order to handle it in the ocean. Great Video!
Water displaces the energy / lift that's why it takes a bit.
Another great review. Thank you for sharing!
As usual a great updated review on the Spry @Dustin ( Watched it in its entirety btw .) I still have concerns about this Drone. Please don't get me wrong, Its a great concept, There are obvious things here Swell Pro need to Address fairly quickly. The Fog in the Camera housing is a huge concern. The Camera Stabilization is unfortunately fairly useless at this point in time and Im sure Swell Pro will be working on this. Maybe use along the lines of what the Parrot Bebop 2 uses for stabilization which would render it absolutely flawless if they can Stabilize 4K using that same concept. The other thing is the flight time, The battery bay looks as if it could take a larger capacity battery if they steered away from proprietary Batteries. Range: For what this Bird Costs, it is extremely poor. There are some seriously good things with this Drone though, The way it RTH to the controller, Which is excellent. Meaning a flight from a boat it would land on deck. From what I can tell, it has serious potential. But Please, Swell Pro if you happen to be reading this, In my opinion the Bird needs to go back to the Labs to turn this thing into an Absolute killer. Take it off the Market until its right. Because at this point in time to me it is still an Overpriced Toy.
Fix the Stabilization Issues, The Fogging issues, Boost the range to 4000m, Address the Controller from Fogging up, ( Which I noticed went away after awhile ) But the fogging issues are serious issues and not just aesthetically but rather components That potentially will be eaten by Corrosion in a matter of weeks/months
I will be in that lonnnnng line to buy one of these pending Major improvements that are indeed Necessary Improvements. - Thank You Dustin for another great review mate and hoping you and Yours are well. Cheers From Western Australia, Mid West Coast.
Great comment. They'd be wise to listen and improve on the concerns 🙂👍
I so much agree with you, as I do fishing videos on the water with my kayak I really need a waterproof drone but the 4k image is so terrible the jelly is so big, I can´t use that or will ruin my video
@@FishingChanneltv Absolutely mate, I would definitely kick back and wait and see if SwellPro Improve the Spry and make it an absolute go to Drone for many applications.
If they can Nail this, We, The Consumer and Them, The engineering team will have quite possibly one of the best overall birds on the market today. Its a Win- Win Situation here But I sincerely hope they Take it off the shelves and back into the labs and not just try and fix smaller things with FW upgrades and say "There you go, thats the Spry finished". Another thing I am afraid they may do is put a external Camera Gimbal on board. There is absolutely no need for this as Parrot have nailed the Gimbaless Camera YEARS ago Period. Yes it only shoots 1080P@30 but have a look how stable and crisp the playback is, even at that low resolution. This I believe is where Drone camera's are heading. Take a look at the GoPro 7 Black. No gimbal required or Vibration plates for that matter..Yes the Fish eye can be annoying but I heard from a very good source they ( GoPro ) are working tirelessly to improve this. So, after all that, We have a Gimbaless Camera shooting flawless 4K@60FPS = SwellPro? No disrespect, you guys are great But pleeeease take note of where Camera stabilization is heading. It is not unnecessary fragile weighted hardware like Gimbals. We Now have access to 1-inch, 20-megapixel CMOS sensors boasting f/2.8-11 aperture - let the software do the rest without to much sacrifice on cropping.
@CHIPSA Hospital: Enhanced Gerson Therapy Not that I am aware of. But keep an eye out on Dustins channel as he will be in the know with this one.
Cheers
Nice tune at the end with the shore flyby
Been waiting for this one! Seems to be very capable, but should be for that money. I like its deeper beep - it sounds like the ducks we had when I was a kid. 🦆🦆
😂 That's actually the controller vibration when first turned on, battery warning starts or connection is lost 👍
very nice quad, thanks for sharing 🙏❤️👍😁
Enjoyed the review. Looks like a nice spot for fishing/snorkel. How did you get to this beach?
Gimme a SPRY with the autonomy of the Skydio2 and I am in heaven. SwellPro has a couple things to fix in my opinion. Better stabilization and somehow deal with the fogging. Need to get the 4k camera up to 120fps and get the autonomy more like the Skydio and I will buying one.
Amazing. I'm looking forward to receiving my Spry.
Hi Dustin..awesome quad you've reviewed here..! , would also like to include this into our upcoming compilation if that's okay with you ?
You bet 👍
Great. It's funny to see a drone in water 💦
Very cool 😎 Dustin. Thanks for the video
Sharp i just ordered one👍👍👍dustin did they fix all of these issues with the fogging screen? And the website says it lands now where the controller is???
I'm currently reviewing the spry + and I'll know more 🍻
Dustin Dunnill when? Thought u had the spry + or was that the reg spry ???
I haven't made a video of the plus yet. It's been hard to find a shoreline without police patrolling since we're in lockdown from virus. Right now we can only actively be exercising or swimming on the shore. Hopefully it will change next week. 🍻
Dustin Dunnill i hear u, so all of the other videos were not the + ? Because I really want to buy the + , ???
Im not talking about the bigger one, i was just wondering if they made a regular Spry, before the Spry sport + ?
Great in depth review. Thanks. Could you film some kitesurfing and windsurfing as that's what I'd use it for. Be interesting to see if it can keep up in higher winds.
I think the splashdrone models would be better for that as they have gimbal stabilization and can handle more wind 👍
Excellent video Dustin!!
Great video as usual, Dustin. Quick question though, did you change cameras? For some reason I got mild nausea watching the camera move sporadically.
Lol , my hatcam video? Probably more shaky than usual because of the precarious and sharp lava I was walking on.
Nice review as always. Be safe
Awesome score 👍 Dustin
Can you view the videos in the app and can you download the videos from the app to your phone like the go pro app does?
Thanks for doing a review
Thank you dustin
How did you switch to acromode in your 1 st test?
Did you have a special software from swellpro?
or did you use a standard programm for flightcontrolleradjusments if so which?
Have a spry myself and love to fly it too
You can find some thoughts about it on the splashdroneforum
Please follow up with aditional cool tests as you wrote here
Ps. gyrocalibration does take only 10 seconds, i think the trottlecommand was deleyed as we can see on the fpv screen i think that happens if it is not calibrated well - recommend to do all 3 calibrations with the first battery on that spot - takes less than 4 minutes all together and the drone will fly so much more relieable!
Dont forget to turn off and on the drone after every of the 3 calibrations.
All the best
I used config software from swellpro to assign acro to the atti mode switch which didn't seem to work anymore after latest update. I did all the calibrations at home away from interference as I do with other drones. Didn't make sense to me doing a gyro cal on uneven lava rock or for example: wouldn't it be quite impossible to do it also on a rocking boat in the water where this is likely to be used?
@@DustinDunnill yes on a boat it would be not possible to calibrate but on a day i want to use it i would try to do all calibrations on shore bevore i go on the boat, just to have it new calibrated on that day - even if i had to go onshore via dinghy as a liveaboard for instance to do so. Did 50 batteries till now and found out that calobration is very importend to that drone. The manual says after intens atti flights and after shocks like waterrammings it has to be new calibrated.
So the programm you used to enable acromode doesent work anymore - was it on the swellprohomepage for download or did you get it as a betatester exclusiv from them? I did hope to try some acro with it some day....
FYI after this review Swellpro sent me an update to try to mitigate the IMU error.
@@DustinDunnill thx for the info - acrosetting not possible anymore at the moment? Software no where to download?
I think they want me to test it and sent it directly. Not for distribution.
I'm late to the game but why didn't you take the waterproof remote with you?
so cool best drône for a fisherman . i by it when i have the budjet . it's a good drône for me .
Very interesting little drone!
this review is very helpful to us ....
I don’t see the price vs potential in this bird, excellent video as always from this guy, probably the one of best RC guys on utube
Hi how did you bind goggles to the drone
Hi again. Finally I bought a Mavic air and I have some questions. After a little ''accident'' i got a few little (not deep) scratches on one propeller. Should I replace it it?
Second question: Do I need to update the batteries and the charging hub?
I think some light scratching is fine. It should update batteries when you use them. Just accept the updates.
@@DustinDunnill Thank you again.
What does your question have to do with the spry?
Stupid!
Hey dude what kind of goggles are you using to bind with the drone?
I think it linked them in description. Any analog 5.8ghz goggles 🍻
Would you buy the dji platinum pro or this? If you had them side by side
Pro unless I wanted a waterproof drone
@@DustinDunnill lol literally the only think making me sway to the spry..we do lots of kayaking and want something we could trust to come back to a moving kayak
The Spry is ok but won't give you very stabilized footage. I just did an ocean test on the PowerEgg X and it did surprisingly well. You can choose to return to controller or not also. Video up soon 🍻
@@DustinDunnill awsome man thank you for your imput🤠🤙
Dustin you may want to manchen to do a GOOD fresh water rinse after being exposed to water.
Definitely wash EVERYTHING with fresh water that's been in salt water... Including drones 🙂
nice one Dustin, where's the music credit, song is lovely :)
Thanks for a thorough video with the drone. Completely unusable for making stable videos, and not powerful enough for any kind of racing. Not sure who this drone is for? I’m looking for a good waterproof drone and swellpro seems to be the biggest manufacturer but I keep reading endless posts of angry customers.
Thanks for the great video Dustin, that’s such a cool drone, very good for doing some under water footage to, a very unique feature I think,, that was a stunning location too mate.. happy flying 👍
Nice one Dustin
Dope stuff man! I wish conformal was as reliable as this haha!
Wait it has a acro mode but you didn’t use it.
Great flying love the vid great droe 👌👌👌👌👌🤠🇬🇧
Hi Dustin, Like the video, How to connect the Goggles to this Drone? Thanks
It uses regular 5.8ghz analog video so any "race drone" type goggles will work like fatsharks etc. Or any screen receiver combo with 5.8ghz analog capability 👍
@@DustinDunnill You mean, no cable? I thought you connected the Fatsharks to HDMI port on the RC? Can you be more specific? Thanks
The drone transmits 5.8ghz analog FPV signal wirelessly when on. Any 5.8ghz receiver within range tuned to the proper channel can view the FPV signal. It would look the same as the feed I was viewing and that was in the goggles I recorded depending on the quality of receiver and antennas.
@@DustinDunnill I try it on my EACHINE receiver 5.8ghz, scan all chanel nothing. I also try it on my phantom 4 Pro use custome to 5.8 GHZ, Nothing!!!!
Try what? You have a SPRY?
great video, thanks for sharing
Wow, water drone
I’m wondering if the iron content in the lava is effecting your calibration issues!!!
Been looking forward to seeing this good going mate 👍👍
this or mavik zoom
Hey Dustin, why is there so much jello in the feed when you're flying at a high altitude? Didn't Swellpro correct this with their last update??
Likely the wind up higher or the higher speed. Honestly not sure .
Swell pro just released a new phantom like 4k 3 axis gimble drone yesterday looks decent.
The Splashdrone 3+ ?
I don't really see the point in having a 4k camera without a gimbal or some other sort of stability
If they could make the software stabilization like a parrot Bebop cam and you could turn it off and on.. that would be awesome. Bebop and Disco have amazing stabilization for no gimbal fixed camera.
@@DustinDunnill They do indeed! I had both the bebop 1 and 2 but you need that fish eye lens for digital stabilization to work well. They could update the software for some stabilized video but it wouldn't be anything like parrots. Thanks mate
Stupid question, can this fly in the rain?
Yes, checkout my home flight in rain and pool 👍
14:39 LANDING ON LAVA ROCK... doesn't break a prop.. don't try this on vacation, kids
😂👍
I bet the water was awesome bro!
It was a perfect day. Wish I had my boat ready that day 😉
Yes! Dad needs to paddle! Been awhile since we seen him!
Is there still jello in your final video?
This was the final video
Give us an update.. do you still use it?
Haven't for a while but it's still working ok. I'm currently reviewing the second generation.
Take on the spry+ ?
I was reviewing it and 2 motors stopped working when doing water tests... I got a replacement so we'll see how it holds up in finishing the review 🍻
@@DustinDunnill will Be on the look out. I couldn't fun be anything online mentioning if the Drone can house a sd card and if so the capacity?
It takes an SD like the original under battery. I think 64GB max 🍻
WOW AMAZING VIDEO VERY EDUCATIONAL GREAT REVIEW👍👍👍LIKE 138 👍👍👍
would love a retrieval from a moving sailboat
I can't determine if the camera has a gimbal or not.
No gimbal on Spry 🍻
What's the battery life on that Drone???
About 15 minutes
@@DustinDunnill Well ,,, that killed my thoughts of getting one,, spoiled with 30 minutes +... Wonder if DJI will ever make one like that,,, That would be Big...
Why has the screen fogged up?
Is very good drone 👍👍
It's unique and the first of its kind 👍
@@DustinDunnill yes
Some Spry+ drone owners are complaining of water getting inside the controller after operating it in the rain.
Where are you seeing that? Thanks.
Love it
i have had the spry for 2 months and i am not happy with the video recording, the spry in the lightest breeze has stability problems, impossible to get smooth footage. I had a DJ Spark, one third of the cost and it is much more stable, smooth and better footage. The spark is not waterproof, i have up graded the Swell Pro Spry firmware, still this flys like its been drinking. Very disappointing.
Nice swim
Thank you:
Okay. "This video will be all about the water..." entire video later "LIKE NOOOOOO WATERRRRRR".... WHUT???????
hey whats the song at the end?
Maui....take me back home!!!
🙂🌴🍻🤙
🤙🍻
It has a "return to me" feature
Please do a review of xk k130
Ok 👍
Why would someone buy this when you can buy DJI Spark or Mavic Air?
Because this is salt water proof and those are not.
Cool
😍😍😍
No acro? Pass
Get it? IN-DEPTH...😂
Rtth is a little wacky also🍀
👍🤙
🙂🤙
for 900 bucks i would expect a much smoother video. the mavic pro is only a few hundred more and it's quality is FARRRR better than this. and you can fly it sooooo far out. i got mine to 14k feet and had to turn back. i miss it
Why do you keep moving your head while talking?
Hi Dustim, this is Jane from snaptain, did you check the message left on facebook? or pls check your email. thanks.
too bad it doesn't have a gimbal
oh dam no gimbal...that sucks
Not that impressive the video stabilisation isn't great, the camera seems to fog up alot and the detail of the camera is poor. pass
It does have it's issues which are expected for a first generation model. I thought the camera detail looked pretty good out of the water. When under water video looked a bit blurry which might be hard to figure out with this cover over lense configuration.
Mmmmmm, lot of jello in the video... short battery life, easy to overload the battery... I bought this drone for easy to carry waterproof drone to chase kite surfers in high wind. Lots of thing falling short of promised.... Looks like I might have made a mistake.
How about never try o bash it in the water ???
Короче, гавно, а не дрон 😄
