Uhm, 🤔 Do you want Momma B to make you boys some plant scented candles and melts? You may be shocked at the scents I can create. I've been doing it since before you 2 were born. You can pretend you made them, and put them in your store. If I make them, they will be high quality. I can leave to tops a little rough, you can hit them for a couple seconds with a heat gun, or blow dryer, to smooth the tops, then, put your own label on them, so you "participate" in making them, and can say you made them, without telling a lie. 😁😂🤣
I actually LOVE the smell of fresh cut grass, but I avoid it since I'm allergic, so that would be a pretty cool idea for a "garden" candle! 😄 You don't have to give me credit.. just send me free ones! 🤣
Soy or beeswax candles (easier on the asthma/allergies) a 3-pk of straw, rice, and oat scents. The smell of rice lotion and oat lotion is such a happy smell, I imagine a candle would be great too.
Yuzu isn't really juicy in general, and not heavily harvested for it due to the seeds. It's usually harvested when green/slightly yellow for the fragrant rind. If you're looking for the fragrant juice, go for the Sudachi fruit instead. Also, I'm a soapmaker, and the three most common 'garden' fragrances that get requested or made are: dirt, tomato leaf, and clover ^_^
This is exactly what I was going to mention! It's something like only 15% of the fruit is juice. The best way to tell when they're ready is when the fruit smells extra fragrant, golden yellow with maybe hints of green. Candied yuzu peels are AMAZING. Very popular treat in Japan. I'm obsessed. They're hard to find so boom, grow your own yuzu happened. 🤣
Great video. I knew you didn't have a lot of room between you and your neighbors but this video really shows that. Growing so many things in a regular neighborhood, it's impressive and inspiring.
Just a tip, tobacco is a summer crop and they love hot weather and full sun, so you can always try again next spring and summer I also noticed that the seeds will sprout at random if left in the soil, I’ve reused soil from supposed seed sowing fails for other plants and I still get random tobacco seedlings popping up in my house plants and garden so don’t give up in those seeds yet
Hermit hats and possibly candles?! Just take my money already! Genovese Basil would be an epic scent for a candle. Or maybe even a Dirty Hippie line, like a mish-mash of garden soil, Birkenstock leather, sour d terps, and thyme. Not gonna lie, I’d buy it.
I love these "best friend" videos best. You two are great. It is also fun seeing you a week or two ahead of us in San Jose. We still have some tomatoes, hots and bells, and basil to harvest. My husband plans to start putting out his seedlings this weekend with our grandson when he comes to visit. They planted amazing broccoli last year, so here's to year 2. Are your finding your compost is full because of all the wonderful greens you are getting now?
So many helpful random tidbits of information! Particularly when a pomegranate is ready and to wait til summer to prune on the loquat. And entertaining as always. Thanks!
Yes!!!! Tulsi ❤❤❤ I drink tulsi and butterfly pea tea with some lemon every day. I’m also drying it for the winter but so far I think dehydrating it makes it less fragrant. I recently started air drying it. I’m also planning on growing it inside. I’m obsessed! It’s also a wonderful medicinal herb.
Oh man! The smell of pine chips and straw make Jenn a happy girl!! Loaded my car up (a poor little Kia!😆) and didn't unload it until the next day. Smelled so amazing!
One of my favourite candles is tomato vine and basil; found it in the gift section of my local pharmacy and it's been a fantastic burn for spring cleaning to really clear out the wintery blues. But candles made with essential oils from the Epic Homestead would be a fantastic idea!
If I could have a magic garden candle line, I’d definitely have the following scents: - Tomato Plant - Wood Chips - Raining on Cedar Trees - Crunching Fall Leaves - and all my favourite herb smells... basically all the herbs.
Momma B is jealous of your poms. Cant grow them up here. 😣 But.. Im so excited to watch your fall garden progress. I didnt realize you plant it so late in the year. Love you boys. 👍❤ Momma B is up here, where we have to plant fall seeds, by the second week of August, or put plants in the ground by the second week of September. We had 4 nights of freezes, last week. 26° to 28°, and my plants are still here. Covered them with plastic, and lit dollar store Tikki torches, all around the garden. It worked. 😁 We do that for fruit trees, in early spring too. (No plastic, just the tikki torches. Keeps the frosts off the trees) Headlines should read: "Dollar Store Tikki Torches Save Organic Foods". Yay!! 🎉🎊🎉🎊
This was a fun one, thanks guys! It was especially cool since I am from Massachusetts, and have actually lived in Danvers, and I've grown those carrots! :D I wish I could plant as much as you in the fall! Good luck with the carrots!
Wow! The garden is so lovely! I cannot wait to start planting (I'm late, but my tomatoes are still producing) the fall veggies! This is the week for sure! :) Thanks for all the inspo! :)
I freaking love both y’all, thank you Kevin for you knowledge and insight! I can’t wait for spring to just apply all the knowledge and have a homestead that would make y’all all proud
Zone 9b in Florida and my three year old papaya is massive. It's trunk is twenty six inches, it's taller than my house and it has produced fruit all summer and it's loaded with flowers. Second tree is starting to take off now and should flower soon. I have never seen one this size! Grown from the seed of a store bought fruit. It is on the south side of my house and the main trunk fell last year so now it has multiple branches. Food and water makes mighty papaya!
Nicotianna is hard to grow, very hard. I've tried also and only once did it germinate. But then it got much on by something . Good luck and happy gardening guys on your fall garden .
It's a small thing but I'm thankful to see some grass coming up in your wood chips. My garden chips are looking the same after a long summer lol. The lemon fruits look great! Our zone is too cold for citrus so I'm living vicariously through you.
Kevin and jaque, stay real guys! You have such a good thing going and I love the casual flavour of the channel, don't start throwing videos out like Mr beast.. keep having fun!
I think you've convinced me to axe my sad Key Lime tree and grow something else. The fruit are tiny and full of seeds and I don't even bother using them when the Bearss lime makes such beautiful fruit. Oooh, maybe I should get a Makrut Lime for the leaves in Thai cooking!
Loved this video. You 2 are so funny and informative at the same time. Everything I didn't know that I needed to know 🤷♂️🤣💯 and most definitely need a Jacque hat to be an "offical" gardener. Thanks! You guys are the best!
@@epichomesteading You should almost over-water it (if it's dry) and then stress the tree. When you do this, it compels the tree to make more fruit. My two papaya trees fruited in about 6 months but I'm in Hawaii (different types grow differently also as you know). I know when you stress papaya trees (sometimes severely ), they fruit faster, bigger and sweeter). Mine are awesome! Thanks for all of your great videos.
Make Epic Candles with your favorite garden smells.. Like Petrichor, Watermelon, Strawberries, Straw, Orange, Lemon, Bobka, Spring, Autumn, Summer, Winter...😁
I was seriously thinking why can't I transplant beets. They are seriously annoying to direct sow. Too much water and they hate it. So I'm going to transplant them from now on. Thank you for the confidence.
I’m irrigation hesitant but in desperate need. I’m in Texas and the task seems daunting. What do you recommend for the irrigation dummy? You guys make it seem so easy. I have 3 raised beds, 3 raised planter boxes and 3 green stalks with a ton of grow bags. Watering daily is a beast! I’d be more successful with some kind of irrigation setup. I’m almost desperate enough to pay someone to come in and set it up for me. 😊
Papaya should be planted 10 ft apart. There are two growing together. Depending on the papaya the ratio is either 3:1 or 5:1. Sometimes people will plant up to three plants close together, but you have to cull to 1 plant. It is very thin because of competition. It also is a heavy feeder of potassium and potash. First flowers at about 5 months, and that is when you can find out the sex of the tree. First fruit is usually ready 9-10 months from seed germination. In frost free climates a papaya can live about 8 years. It is not a tree. The core is hollow. It is a giant herb.
@@bjbrown the recipe calls for 8 cups depitted loquats, 4 cups sugar, a teaspoon cardomon and one table spoon lemon juice. You can leave the skin on, just wash the fruit. But I find that the skin might have left a grainy texture. Maybe better to remove the skins. Boil everything until soft and blend. Then bottle. The jam needs to sit for a week or so for the lemon flavour to blend, if you use it too soon you will taste lemon juice.
OK, I guess we're making Epic Garden Candles 😂
And some wax melts! Would definitely buy some!
Some “after the rain smell?” And beeswax or maybe soy candles please. Lol.

Came for the gardening stayed for the banter 😂
Ha ha it’s the best
A Rosemary scented candle would be great lol.. Lavender, Roses. So many good smells from the garden. 🥰
Tomato leaf candle!!! The smell always reminds me of wandering through my mother’s veggie garden as a kid and it just screams “summer” to me 😍
I second the tomato leaf! It's such a clean, green, summer scent.
I third! As soon as they asked what smell people would like I thought of the way my hands smell after pruning my tomato plants. So good 😭
Seconding tomato leaf!!!
Trader Joe’s has a tomato leaf candle lol
Omg. I love y’all’s dynamic. I’ve learned so much from watching this channel and now just enjoy it for the comedic value.

I like the scent of the lemon bee balm, straw, and cucumbers. I think a candle line would be a nice side hustle!
The editor's job seems so fun, they must laugh all day long
Jacques is such an excellent addition to your videos! Love him!!
Great video. I knew you didn't have a lot of room between you and your neighbors but this video really shows that. Growing so many things in a regular neighborhood, it's impressive and inspiring.
Please make a candle that smells like tomato plants! Not the fruit, but the leaves. It’s my favorite garden smell. You two are hilarious.

You had me at Birkenstock
Ive always wanted an authentic “tomato leaves” smelling candle…

I can't tell you how many times I've been in my garden and just breathe in the smells! Tulsi, chamomile, cucumber.....to name a few
Garden scent suggestion, ‘petrichor’ it is the pleasant smell of freshly wet earth after a rainfall
Yes!
I’m with Jacques on the Tulsi scented candle. Hands down my favorite garden scent last year. Fresh cut grass is another favorite of mine.
U guys are sheer entertainment together!
So many helpful random tidbits of information! Particularly when a pomegranate is ready and to wait til summer to prune on the loquat. And entertaining as always. Thanks!
Candle line sounds good: straw, fresh cut grass, first summer rain in the garden...

Tulsi Basil Candle!
Garden scented candles would be pretty dope ngl, I'd buy one
YES!! A candle line, for sure!
Rosemary, dill, autumn rain, asparagus (lol)...

candles~ Lemon basil, strawberry mint, dragonfruit obviously!
I don't think I've ever been so early!
Still watching but I love how far you've come. I like that corn it looks so cool.

You guys are the answer to toxic masculinity. Thank you for being such wonderful, playful sources of joy and fun…and knowledge!
You were having so much fun. It was good to watch - especially for people who do not have another grow season for a few months.
Jacque is a treasure 😁
Yes, fresh rich garden soil and rainstorm scented csndles!

- Tomato Plant

On candles, I'm always drawn to the scent of fresh sweet green stems like basket grass (Oplismenus) carrot and sweet pea vine.
Oh that's an amazing smell!
I'm so jealous you have gardening friends to do stuff with :D you've inspired me to try to find my own!

For nicotiana as they require light to germinate once seeds pressed on the soil, mist and then cover with a sandwich bag 👍
Cantaloupe would be a great candle scent...

Im so tired from gardening.. im actually ok with nothing in my beds for the most part untill next spring. Gardening is ALOT OF work ^^
Kevin! You are my inspiration to "homesteading" my acre property in Camarillo. Can you tell us something about growing Mangos? 🥭

Fresh soil, straw and citrus blend candle. Call it Epic Bromance.
