  • Because SUMEBore is a coating instead of a plating, the honing process is quite different. In order to take advantage of the incredible properties of SUMEBore, a specific surface finish must be achieved.
In this brief video, Lake Speed Jr and Ed Kiebler discuss the unique honing process for SUMEBore and expand on why it provides next generation performance.

You take out a couple of thousandths with a 600 grit? That sounds like a heck of a lot.

Yep, it is a super smooth finish!

      @@TotalSeal I'll say. Very interesting.

With an incredible cylinder finish such as this, is there a specific time period for breaking in your pistons/rings? And could there also be a requirement for a different grade engine oil?
    Great video insight. Thanks

Thanks for the comment. The SUMEbore process does change the break-in time (shorter) and the oil requirements. These are some of the first things we leaned in this development program.

Is the sumebore hone required for the gapless rings?

We are actually running this engine with conventional gap, but gas ported rings.
The type of hone is due to the bore material and not the style of the ring.
