I think it’s so important that Heartstopper is this “sanitised” version because it means it’s something families with kids 11 & 12 years old can watch comfortably together. It’s important to show what healthy communication in a relationship looks like at the age where it is more easily internalised. Yes it’s idealistic but I’d much rather my teen be striving for a Heartstopper style relationship than a euphoria one.
“Heartstopper” is a very special show, and that reaction of “I wish I had had this when I was that age“ is one I can certainly relate to, even at my age, smack dab in the middle of the baby boom generation. I think Alastair is right that this show couldn’t have been made 10 or 15 years ago, and certainly not 50 years ago when I was a teenager. And I also agree that the lack of trauma is one of the best things about this show and the thing that makes it unique. There are other gay teen shows that I think work very well in different ways (for example, the third season of the Norwegian show “Skam”), but “Heartstopper “ is so lovingly put together and beautifully thought out that it is special indeed. And I’m glad to hear that Alastair is a fan of “Shelter,” which I think is a pretty great movie, too.
II was suicidal most of my teens so I related to Charlie saying that the world might be better without him. I am not sure exactly what drives that feeling, but I suspect it comes from his mother. For me it was years of emotional abuse by my grandmother and later by my stepfather. I did have older siblings, but they were much older and we were not close at that time. So I never talked to anyone about any of my feelings. I did my best to hide everything. I poured my feelings into poetry, which I never shared with anyone until I was in my 30s. I did not really start to recover until I moved into my own place and was able to avoid the toxic people in the family. I look forward to seasons 2 and 3 of Heartstopper and hopefully we will learn why Charlie is so emotionally vulnerable.
They already mention 2 of the reasons why Charlie is like that, and a lot of foreshadowing of what kind of mental health issues he has, not spoiler but if they continue like in the comics/books we will get deep into Charlie mental health.
I'm a 60 year old gay man. I started coming out to people when I was fourteen. It was 1976. In my opinion, Heartstopper is the best LGBTQIA+ content ever produced for mass consumption. It's not perfect, but that's part of what makes it work. It's not perfect, but it works as a whole production. I'm still blown away by it. I'm waiting a bit to watch it through a second time.
The thing that really makes Heartstopper resonate with its audience is that it's focused on joy and reminds the viewer that joy can look a lot of ways but that it is possible. . .and we don't have to do anything in order to deserve it.
Zach getting flustered over Britney makes me smile. Takes me back to when me and my friends’ whole world was t.A.T.u and we became master sleuths, following Intl’ tabloids, ordering Russian magazines from sketchy websites, singing Russian lyrics (badly), and ALWAYS and forever - speculatin’.
I've been a fan of you two awesome husbands Zach and Alastair ❤️ and I just wanna say...it's really really great to see Alastair grow from being "camera shy" from your earlier vlogs/videos to a confident and eloquent speaker now...
Just love watching UA-cam videos of tequila and coffee. Just remember don't let others online try to control your subjects. It's your podcast, you can't please everyone. You all have a great talk and bantering that is so wonderful. Make your show how you want and only take suggestions from audiences. Create your own niche in UA-cam and podcast. You both are so funny and look great. Have fun and your audience will follow your authentic way you do. Love you both keep up the great subjects.
Zach, I know you and your husband, Alastair are talking about my idol, Britney Spears got married to her fiance, Sam Asghari last Thursday with many guests are Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Donatella Versace, Paris Hilton and her idol, Madonna until her ex-husband, Jason Alexander was crashing the wedding at her home while all the cops were arrested him for being in trouble like that, so you told him about one of my favorite gay movies, Fire Island got came out on Hulu back on the 5th and one of my favorite shows, Heartstopper after it came out on Netflix back in April, it's about two guys, named, Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring, who met in school in England and they fall in love with each other from the start, I love the chemistry between Kit Connor and Joe Locke on the show including Sebastian Croft, who play Charlie's first boyfriend, Ben Hope on this video at your house in Texas during the episode of "Coffee & Tequila", it's inspired by Young Royals and all the remakes of SKAM, so I'm proud of you, I love your morning talk show a lot and I know you had the Southern accent!!
Any book worth being banned is worth reading. Guys firstly loved those tshirts, retro from my time. I personally use the word gay the most and rarely use queer, just different meanings for me. I appreciate Zach you saying there’s so much content you struggle keeping up, I watch you two and am blown away by how you guys find time for all you do. There was lots in this show, loved it and yes I really enjoyed Heartstopper even at my age it was really well done. Have an amazing week guys, thanks for a great start to mine.
Great episode guys! To your last remarks, I could tell you were having a good time throughout. It’s always special when you’re having fun, because the episode is so much more enjoyable for the audience. Looking forward to Friday! 😸✌️
Woo. I'm so glad that it's news on monday morning and stories on friday night. Enjoying the show format and you both seem to be enjoying the format which makes it even better.
Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden Love) was a long-running gay themed German soap opera that ran from 2 January 1995 - to 26 June 2015. It is being re-runned on UA-cam and is vastly popular. I know I love it. What amazes me is that the storyline that is unabashedly gay for its time. Check it out.
Love these discussion, hearing your thoughts is so satisfying/comforting as you're having conversations that I'm not able to have with the people in my immediate life. I plan to change that one day, but ya'll are so important in a time when I can't have that yet. Thoughts: Yes Oz was so toxic, very glad we're getting healthier stories. I love that ya'll break the convention by being "southern country" but also more moderate/liberal leaning in some cases, as that has been my experience growing up in Oklahoma. I'm also feeling apprehension with all the hate coming out against the community but also hopeful it's a sign of moving toward a more mainstream conversation and acceptance. Excited to hear more about First Kill/Heartstopper!! Thanks for a great show!!
You guys are coming into your own as book and movie reviewers. It’s nice to see. I appreciate your willingness to address challenging topics. I hope you will take the time to continue following Heartstopper through its secone season. Thanx.
Hey guys, I truly enjoy your show and season 2 gets better and better with each episode. Constructive criticism, slow your roll. Maybe speak alitte slower. Other than that it's always a pleasure watching C and T on Monday mornings. Best wishes as always.
Love your channel guys - informative, great views & entertaining. Constructive comment:. more balance from both of you, perhaps each take turns heading the next topic. Otherwise, so good! 👍
Gazumping is a term used in property dealings. It is when parties agree to a price of sale, but then the seller sells it to someone else, usually at a higher price. The original buyer was gazumped.
Fire Island is such a wonderful movie, especially for a gay asian ass man like myself. This is the representation I never thought I would be able to see in my life time and I am a 51 year old gay ass bitch. I agree with Zach about Tom Cruise being the legendary movie star that he is, he was, and still is, one of the biggest movie star all over the world back in my days. He was insanely popular and literally everyone’s dream guy when Top Gun first came out. My first Western celebrity crush ever I would say. Edit: seeing how passionate Alastair is about First Kill makes me wanna give this show a go, well done as a podcast, haha.
I have a bit of a suspicion that the reason why parts of society seem to either be regressing/becoming more vociferous in their outrage about gay/trans people is not so much because they just are, but because of the success of the LGBTQ+ community in being far more visibly represented and accounted for by companies, advertising, entertainment, news media, etc. Ten years ago, we had reached a point where the community could live as we wanted to in many/most parts of countries in Europe and the USA/Canada, and were being accepted (or maybe even just tolerated at least) by most of those societies. Since then, there has been a huge cultural shift towards focusing on, giving visibility/representation to, and just hearing about the views of/seeing the lives of the LGBTQ+ community in mass media/mainstream day to day life in a way that became somewhat disproportionate in some cases - in other words, people started to hear about/see LGBTQ+ focused messages, advertising, storylines, political issues, etc. more often than they may actually encounter LGBTQ+ people in their own lives. As such, I feel that those people started to feel like they were being bombarded with such information/messages/representation in a way they felt was unbalanced, and what we're now seeing is the pendulum swinging back as a reactionary response to that shift, as a minority section of the straight majority feel the need to assert themselves and their difference. The biggest reaction has been towards trans-related people and towards drag queens, and I feel both of those are the groups of people and subjects that have seen the biggest increase in coverage/visibility/prominence in society over that same ten year period, so I can only conclude that one thing is driving the other. I am hopeful for the future and I hope that rather than seeing the rising conflict and homophobic/transphobic attacks as a signal that the gay/trans community need to push their message and fight and visibility even harder, I would suggest that will only inflame and divide society even more in a spiral of polarized othering. It may be better if we can find a way that we all understand and allow each other as human beings to be ourselves, give space to each other on all sides to live our own lives in our own ways, and bring down the temperature to see if this means that people can return to the tolerance and eventual acceptance that we were starting to achieve a decade ago. I tend to think that very few people are truly evil, and that most are either misguided, or just reacting to something based on their internal map of the world that they have formed from the experiences they've had.
Heartstopper first series is certainly sweet but you have to look at the underlying themes that are brewing, Charlie never eating, the signs of OCD, Suicide Ideation there are constant undertones that will deal with darker issues moving forward. Adult relationships gets dealt with in later seasons.
Glad you saw all that. I think Alice was a little gentler for the first season (as are the first two books) but it gets darker. And I think that's important too.
Happy to see your smiling faces,we normally watch Tuesday mornings, but us two old farts, are being bad boys and staying up late so we can watch you now, just getting a whisky and off we go.💋💋
Y'all need to watch Joel Kim Booster's stand-up routines! I enjoyed Fire Island. Being an OGAM (older gay asian male) I identified with Howie (Bowen's character) because I heard so many of those types of comments when I was in the dating scene many many MANY moons ago. I LOVE the new format, guys.
Speaking of vampires and girls kicking ass, PLEASE PLEASE tell me you've seen the original Buffy movie from the 90s? Just full blown camp, cute guys, cute girls, fight scenes, cameos.
I love the two of you as a mom of a very proud daughter who happens to be gay. I am with your mom Z I ask the same question all the time even before my daughter came out to me. I have always been a supporter of the gay community. In my area of the world there is always talk about not wanting gay people to work around them, express who they are, have children, etc,,, my question to all of them has been what do you want them to do when making a living? go on welfare? then i answer my own question with what i know they will say. which is they don't deserve to be on welfare. then i go on to answer my other questions. which over time in the conversation they tend to shout up. which in my book was point for thee gay community. i walk away confident that i have put them in their place an in my minds, mind i see them walking away wondering why they even decided to debate me over the subject and asking questions as to why they are so worried about someones else life and not their own. keep moving forwarded in your lives the two of you are an inspiration to those that are just beginning to start their journey.
I’m not surprised that you can’t keep up with all of the latest media. My problem is that I can go broke trying to purchase everything I would like to see.
Heartstopper ❤️ I haven’t cried so much in ages. Read the books and cried even more. Don’t really keep up with the “celebrity” gossip but definitely agree with how Wilson handled the “situation”. There was also something about a gay trying to force an actor to come out on Twitter, who answered something in the sense of “you don’t know my ABCs”. Liked how the community reacted to that. Very discouraged on the Idaho thing being labeled as “intent to riot”. Should really be considered an act of terrorism. The amount of hate from Nazis and “religious” entities is extremely scary.
It's like non-Jewish people saying "There's no anti-semitism". Non-Jewish people don't have to deal with the daily micro-aggressions. Same is true for our queer community.
I'm width Zack on not caring for the typical teen movie, but Heartstopper is the fairytale romance I dreamed of when I was their age some 60 years ago.
When you talk about not listening to your views, I like to hear both sides of the argument because stupid people can be violent without thinking about both sides of the situation
The director Colin Trevorrow's been hinting at an extended cut for Jurassic World Dominion when the DVD and Blu-Ray comes out in a month or two As someone who honestly enjoyed the movie, and has loved all the new JW films, I'm really interested in that. Some deleted scenes of the old & new cast interacting more would really help flesh out some of the concepts (human clones, training raptors etc) that got underserved in the movie imo
Can you and Alastair do a video of settling in with the new apartment, and your new adventures in Texas when possible? I miss seeing your life and Brando.
Season one of Heartstopper may be relatively trauma free, but I've heard people mention ED being a thing in the second book. They also hint it a bit throughout the first season, you may have to rewatch to really catch it.
You guys covered some interesting topics that I enjoyed you talking about and I think I probably will subscribe to HULU. Enjoyed your show and you both are such a handsome married couple and I wish you much success and happiness!
“Heartstopper” 👍🏽👍🏽 and oddly enough my husband & I, and friends liked Jurassic World 3 but I can see all your points. (And y’all know I don’t like horror so I haven’t seen “First Kill”). “Top Gun” wasn’t for us 🤷🏽♂️ Brittney is the boss 😄
In one of your shows, ypu covered the low turn out for the movie BROS. I just watched it on Amazon. i tjpught it moved slowly, but ultimately a great movie! I think in time it will be iconicgaymovie!
I totally agree that the reason why heartstopper is so great and popular is because how sweet and cute it is. Yes the characters get hit with some reality checks but for the most part it was just an extremely positive show that I think is so important for young lgtbt people to see. Straight kids get to see idealized versions of their relationships on screen so why can’t we. I love a lot of gay content that is serious, sad, and depressing but it’s gotten to the point where it’s too overwhelming and heartstopper is a breathe of fresh air.
Zack & Alister: I don't really worry about your weight....You look fine to me, Buddy......I do love you and Alister......keep the vids coming, ya'll.....
Watch Pride and Prejudice! Just enough to understand romantic archetype of Lizzie and Darcy. The working class, smart, cynical girl and the moody secretly sensitive rich boy is a classic! never gets old lol 😂
You guys asked for constructive criticism, so I will share my thoughts. I will probably lose me gay card again for this. LOL And be criticized. I really like you guys. But much prefer the AZB videos of you living your lives, especially being close and affectionate. That is more enjoyable to me, than viewing your take on current events and celebrity news. Just look at the differences in view counts, one format to the other. Your beautiful wedding video has over one half million views. I have shared that one with several of my friends. Each of them has said they became emotional over the joy of seeing the two of you together. I get maybe you are tired of having people that much in your lives. But that is my take on this. I only wish you the best.
Hell adjacent...... Forcing Rebel Wilson to come out annoys me so much. SMH giving her 48 hours before publishing it NAH. That is just horrible. Fuck them! I liked that she took power back. And that Uhaul thing could have been one of the worst things to happen (especially so close to the Orlando anniversary.) 31 people, UGH. that is so scary for you guys just WHY....I am happy to live in the UK right now. I am Bisexual, I want to see these characters on TV, I want to see myself in shows. why is it that hard to believe. when we say Queer or Gay we alienate ourselves we end up in a box and the hetronormative people want to shut the lid. HEARTSTOPPER is my favourite thing right now. I need more even from my adult point of view. it was Trauma free no DRAMA I was represented in Nick. Tao grew his hair to be in solidarity with Elle. in one episode Elle mentions that the school wanted to cut her hair and Tao grew his in protest. I'll have to come back with Top gun and First Kill I haven't seen them yet.
Love the new Monday-Friday format. I'm your parents age and still "in" so some of the new "names" are different to me. Never liked the word Queer. That always meant, to me, odd, weird, not normal. I consider myself normal, gay, but normal. If you want to call me something, call me Bob. And oh if I could transport my 14 year old self to a 2022 UK all boys school and sit next to Nick. Sigh...
Imagine what the word queer meant 50 years ago. As a gay teenager back then, I remember how hateful and derogatory it was. It was right up there with the “n” word in my opinion. With the SCOTUS decision on Roe vs. Wade, the pendulum is swinging quickly to the right. It’s going to get worse before it gets better. Great job guys. Thoughtful and interesting content.
Love Heartstopper and Fire Island. I think the thing with Tom Cruise is that he's actively supporting a dangerous organization in Scientology (and we know about it), but are ignoring it. I have no desire to watch Tom Cruise. Sometimes I can separate art from artist (especially if they don't continue to benefit/do harm), but not with Cruise. That being said I still enjoy Jerry McGuaire mostly cause I saw it before I knew the stuff he's said/done and Renee Zellweger.
Sorry to hear that Zach's viewership has dropped off because people perceived him as someone he is not (ironic isn't it?). You keep doing you kiddo! 😁 PS-Loved the recent collabs with Troy!
SMH where the same publication that released the names and addresses of those that took past in the first gay protest (beginning of the now famous Sydney Gay Mardi-gras) back in 1978. They have a history of this type of crap.
Just fyi Tomas Matos (Fire Island) pronouns are They/them, they're more on Broadway but just in case you talk about them again
Got it. Thanks, will remember that
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Heartstopper is the most wholesome show ever, I just adore everything about it. Can’t wait for season 2 and 3.
Dear Alastair and Zack: You guys are fun to watch. Just stumbled over your UA-cam channel recently. Now a fan.
The equivalent to Heartstopper for our generation was the film Beautiful Thing. Another sweet, sweet story. Thanks for the cool chat, lads. 💋💋❤❤
Yes, I was going to recommend this film. They should check it out.

Great episode guys!
To your last remarks, I could tell you were having a good time throughout. It’s always special when you’re having fun, because the episode is so much more enjoyable for the audience.
Looking forward to Friday!

That’s also why I love your collaborations with Troy. He has such an infectious laugh. He’s a viral laugh vector. 🤣

I really like your guy's show. You both keep each other on a higher level.
The fart was choreographed lol
Yes please do reaction videos to each episode of Heartstopper! I would love that so much! That would make me so happy!
You should go to Fire Island!
Yes, they were just pissy that she took the power back.
It’s just ridiculous that the media is whining about being scooped by the victim of their extortion. 🙄🤦♂️

Excellent points and agree that things are definitely are concerning when it comes to gay rights and what it going on
You guys met in my hometown of Atlanta the first time right? I hope that's correct. Born in the South.

Great show! ♥️
Love from Lubbock
Happy Pride Month! Shelter was a great movie!! Please do a full Heartstopper reaction!!❤️🏳️🌈
Loved First Kill, loved Heartstopper, omg more Brittany drama ✨
Found your channel due to Heartstopper, would love it if you are able to do episode reactions for it! 👍🏻
The director Colin Trevorrow's been hinting at an extended cut for Jurassic World Dominion when the DVD and Blu-Ray comes out in a month or two
As someone who honestly enjoyed the movie, and has loved all the new JW films, I'm really interested in that.
Some deleted scenes of the old & new cast interacting more would really help flesh out some of the concepts (human clones, training raptors etc) that got underserved in the movie imo
Yes, reaction to Heartstopper 👍👍👍👍
Can you and Alastair do a video of settling in with the new apartment, and your new adventures in Texas when possible? I miss seeing your life and Brando.
Season one of Heartstopper may be relatively trauma free, but I've heard people mention ED being a thing in the second book. They also hint it a bit throughout the first season, you may have to rewatch to really catch it.
As a boomer, I love Heartstopper.
Fire Island I thought was a DUD so much taken from Broken Harts Club.
I really look forward to your review of the latest instalment of Queer As Folk? 🤔🤭🤗
“Top Gun” wasn’t for us 🤷🏽♂️
Brittney is the boss 😄
Yep. Definitely can relate to not doing horror stuff
I love Heartstopper, it reminds me of you 2.
First Kill Now that was To Much Chezze!
In one of your shows, ypu covered the low turn out for the movie BROS. I just watched it on Amazon. i tjpught it moved slowly, but ultimately a great movie! I think in time it will be iconicgaymovie!
I love your show. What are your thoughts on Eastenders?
I have a PBS 30 minute short you might consider "The unforgettable Augustus Post" that could translate well to the big screen oneday.
Maybe someone already said it but… Zach and Alastair will forever be my Heartstopper.
Toa's hair stale was his way of protesting Truham because Ella was getting suspended for her hair length.
I love you guys so much! 🧡🧡🧡
Love you
Hell adjacent......
I agree, she took back the power.
I've heard the 3rd season of Simon is bad, what is your take?
I literally just went your wedding video to view it again. And it has been pulled!! Copyright issues?
Heartstopper is the best! Do the in-depth!
Tao hair was in protest for Elle when she was going there getting in trouble for growing her hair out.
That's just a fan theory. It isn't canon to the show or the graphic novels.
Sorry to hear that Zach's viewership has dropped off because people perceived him as someone he is not (ironic isn't it?). You keep doing you kiddo! 😁
PS-Loved the recent collabs with Troy!
What happened?
Fire island 💯 recommend
Heartstopper good book adaption movie...more to teen era
SMH where the same publication that released the names and addresses of those that took past in the first gay protest (beginning of the now famous Sydney Gay Mardi-gras) back in 1978. They have a history of this type of crap.
Would like to discover your reactions to any of the following movies: Exception, Firebird & Benediction.
