Personally, I cannot hate the Black Eyed Peas with 'Good Night' either, because of the fact I always heard it at the radio whilst me and my mom were bicycling to the beach, and my mom never really understood much of what he was saying, because whilst my mom speaks English perfectly fine (it's not our first language), Will.I.Am's articulation was too terrible for her to understand, so she made her own version. Kut Night. Kut is basically the Dutch word for 'Cunt', and is often used in a similar way as English speakers curse with the word 'shit'. So imagine being around the age of 11 and bicyclying your way up this hill with your mother singing those exact words at the top of her lungs. You can see I cannot hate this song. I can only laugh and make jokes when I hear it.
if it's any consolation todd, you're top ten lists and one hit wonderland videos are always my favorites. they're always funny and insightful even when i disagree with your picks. they're honestly so rewatchable i sometimes put them on in the background instead of actual music. your hard work does pay off.
the fatimagic True. I'm not even familiar with most of these songs as I rarely listen to this kind of pop, but Todd has great re-watch/re-listen value.
In elementary school, the principle required all teachers to play "The Climb" before our yearly standardized test. I guess she thought it'd be inspiring for us or something.
I still hate "The Climb", but I'll give it for what it is. At least Rage Against the Machine did a good job of keeping X Factor 2009 winner Joe McElderry's version off the Christmas Number One in the UK that year. Here's the article I wrote about this chart battle on a blog called dotdotdash: dotdotdash.blog/killing-in-the-name-of-the-x-factor-the-fight-for-number-one
It's like they were subconsciously admitting that these tests are a slog to get through. They made us listen to Eye of the Tiger before standardized tests. I'm not sure if we were supposed to imagine ourselves in a training montage or imagine ourselves literally fighting the test.
You've gotten a lot more concise with your intros in the last eight years, Todd. If nothing else, I hope you always appreciate that. Also, y'know, production values, sound quality, looking slightly MORE human. There are other things you've learned. Good on ya, bucko.
Discovering Todd recently and then going back through these vids in reverse year order has been hilarious. The takes in these 2009 vids are hilariously shocking. Two Black Eyed Peas songs in the best list and a whole bunch of Beyoncé in the worst list. Utterly wild.
it's interesting to see how much you've matured as a content creator and yet how consistent your humor has been. Gotta say todd this held up pretty decent for something with a comedy edge. Your current stuff i feel is stronger but that's natural with growth!
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who prefers Roger Waters' singing voice over Miley Cyrus' voice (If she's who you're referring to). Even without autotune, Roger's voice in his most recent solo album sounds better than Miley's voice does in my opinion
2009 Todd has no idea what's in store regarding Miley and Justin. Oh man. He has some solid opinions on Beyonce though. I've never understood her appeal.
I'll second on Lemonade. Beyoncé's not my area by any means, but over the last five years or so I've come to really respect her and her position, even if I may not actively listen to her music.
I was going to comment on Beyonce too, because I'm so glad there is someone else out there who just doesn't see the appeal. If you don't like Beyonce people assume you have some sort of brain damage but sorry, I'm not willing to join this "Queen B" cult movement.
I know, I'm so happy that someone agrees with me on how sexist If I Were A Boy was. It assumes that all men are the same, and men are free to be assholes, and the poor woman always gets screwed over every time. It makes my skin crawl, especially since the song has so many avid defenders (aka Beyonce fans).
According to my middle school, Birthday Sex was the best song in the world. Yeah, when you grow up in the middle of New Jersey, you're surrounded by a lot of people who love to know what real sex is like when it's not in pop songs or Hollywood movies.
True story: a 4 minute ad for a piano instructional course came in right before Break Up started playing, and I just let it go. That was a mistake. Beautiful arrangements of modern classics between a grand pianist and professional cellist, and they just worked off each other so well. Then the ad ended, and Break Up started playing. Imagine being fed I former meal from the Ritz, then as you walk out of the restaurant, a crew of crackheads pelts you in the face of garbage and dung. The pleasantness before didn't help, it only made me resent beauty.
4:54 In the UK, a cover of the climb was recorded by a winner of The X Factor and almost became the Christmas number 1 that year. Thankfully, a facebook campaign broke the monopoly on Christmas number 1s held by X Factor winners managed by Simon Cowell. The song that became number 1 instead was Killing in the name by Rage Against the Machine.
I remember hearing boom boom pow for the first time. The 30 seconds I thought, "OK, this has an alright beat, it's a decent rap song." 30 seconds later I was thinking "SAY SOMETHING ELSE! IT'S THE SAME 3 SENTANCES OVER AND OVER AGAIN!"
I’ve been watching Todd for over a decade and one of my favorite end of the year rituals is going back and watching through all of the top ten lists. So cool to see how pop and Todd’s tastes have changed!
Even though I now think it’s an awful song, I somewhat remember liking Boom Boom Pow when it first came out. I was 9 or 10 years old. I try to listen to it again every year or so to see why I liked like, and it only sounds worse each time. The only possible explanation is that I was a sheltered kid who was only allowed to listen to certain tropes of music, so I latched onto anything that sounded new and different.
Nothing on this has aged quite like Todd saying Miley can’t sing. Like, we are all in agreement now that she’s at the very least a talented vocalist right???
oh definitely. todd put midnight sky in his top songs of 2020 and i think she's found her voice. she's not made for soft twinkly piano ballads, she's made for rockin' cool retro throwbacks, and it's great.
I'm going to say it, Old Todd may have been funny to watch back then, but I don't know if his videos aged that well. It's just him yelling at these songs, there's no criticism like there is with his new stuff. Also, I think it's genuinely funny what was considered bad back then. Like most of the songs on this list I can actually tolerate listening to. It's like these videos exist in a whole different era. Like a culture that has long since faded out.
omg the beyonce freakout was the best thing ever... I don't understand how I watch plenty of 'funny' things, yet Todd's videos are the only ones I actually ACTUALLY laugh out loud and usually more than once at that! Todd you legend

In Canada, Family Channel played music videos between programming blocks. Family was the Canadian Disney channel at the time. 21 minutes of programming (on average) followed by ads for other Family Channel shows & "Original Movies". There were also "FamJams", Where music videos would be shown in full. This still happens on NTV & I get to see the music videos when watching "Jeopardy!" back home in the middle of Canada as my parents will pay for satellite Television until their final breath. The Climb was fascinating to me in 2009. I wanted to connect with media & didn't have Internet or a phone yet. My Father gave me a DVD recorder & I tried to hit record & edit the FamJam into "The Climb" music video dozens of times. Once I got it I jumped all around & was super proud of myself. We have come a long way since that moment, yet this memory always lights up in my brain when I remember "The Climb". I have moved to British Columbia in the last few weeks & watch Todd's Videos each night for comfort. My father watches M*A*S*H reruns to re-live his glory days & I suppose that is where "Todd's Channel Content in general" (I mostly return to top 10 lists) appear in my life. @@IA-qs9mi Nah, most of these songs are bad today, no amount of growing will make most of these songs sound better.
2009 Todd: I HATE BEYONCÉ
2017 Todd: I LOVE U BEYONCÉ
Teddy Goatwater thank god
He just liked the one song
Skittle Jamz he loved the whole album, not just one song.
Grubby Bubby he said lemonade was easily the best 2017 album
Ahaha...flipped completely!!!
Child abuse
It's like they were subconsciously admitting that these tests are a slog to get through.
They made us listen to Eye of the Tiger before standardized tests. I'm not sure if we were supposed to imagine ourselves in a training montage or imagine ourselves literally fighting the test.
Come to your senses that children become dumber in the years to come.

Todd made cancer jokes _before_ they were unoriginal.
My man people have been calling bad media cancer since the early 2000s lol. Before that it was AIDS
They were outdated at the time.

Rolando Castillo that's probably for the better.
You've gotten a lot more concise with your intros in the last eight years, Todd. If nothing else, I hope you always appreciate that.
Also, y'know, production values, sound quality, looking slightly MORE human. There are other things you've learned. Good on ya, bucko.
What does the last part mean? Looking more human? Huh?
Seriously Todd!?!? Single Ladies!?!? You suck sometimes
@@Uhohlisa Better lighting and camera, mostly. You can see a little more definition, while retaining no less mystery.
Discovering Todd recently and then going back through these vids in reverse year order has been hilarious. The takes in these 2009 vids are hilariously shocking. Two Black Eyed Peas songs in the best list and a whole bunch of Beyoncé in the worst list. Utterly wild.
And Single Ladies is a brilliant song
I don't even care if I agree or disagree with this list because OH MY GOD THE NOSTALGIA! (Both for the songs and early Todd)
it's interesting to see how much you've matured as a content creator and yet how consistent your humor has been. Gotta say todd this held up pretty decent for something with a comedy edge. Your current stuff i feel is stronger but that's natural with growth!

he did a one hit wonderland episode in regards to the 10th year anniversary of todd's first video on the internet
Well, Roger Waters doesn't have a singing voice either, but at least he knows how to work with it.

Listen to Lemonade bro. Not a big fan of her either, loved the album tho
I'll second on Lemonade. Beyoncé's not my area by any means, but over the last five years or so I've come to really respect her and her position, even if I may not actively listen to her music.
This Is Not My Name you just kind of seem like a hater
I was going to comment on Beyonce too, because I'm so glad there is someone else out there who just doesn't see the appeal. If you don't like Beyonce people assume you have some sort of brain damage but sorry, I'm not willing to join this "Queen B" cult movement.
I know, I'm so happy that someone agrees with me on how sexist If I Were A Boy was. It assumes that all men are the same, and men are free to be assholes, and the poor woman always gets screwed over every time. It makes my skin crawl, especially since the song has so many avid defenders (aka Beyonce fans).
You didn't make an Elm Street joke about "Kiss me through the phone"?
Diva is still a horrible song after all these years
Not gonna lie you gotta a point though
And that break up song too!
break up still should have been number 1 lol
Irrepleaceble and The Climb are great to me tho
The remix at Coachella was good lol.
According to my middle school, Birthday Sex was the best song in the world. Yeah, when you grow up in the middle of New Jersey, you're surrounded by a lot of people who love to know what real sex is like when it's not in pop songs or Hollywood movies.
I can relate. I grew up in New Jersey, and everyone thought Jerimah was the coolest artist ever.
Thank you! Someone who understands!

It's like in 2007, when the kids in my high school couldn't get enough of Soulja Boy...I never got what the big deal was with him...
I still don't get Soulja Boy. Their songs made no fucking sense whatsoever.
And "I Hate This Part" is stuck in my head now. Thanks Todd
I miss angry Todd. I like the more introspective Todd but the Todd that did a bit about how Beyonce was in his bad acid trip is one with great charm.
I find it funny how surprisingly big the Hannah Montana Movie and the Hoedown Throwdown ended up becoming in the Todd in the Shadows lore
"You're lucky if it doesn't give you cancer" - Todd in the Shadows.
I've legitimately seen people say that I Gotta Feeling was worse than Boom Boom Pow and I'm just wondering what fucking universe they live in.

Lol i still love it and listen to it on a weekly basis
I did a street dance to it when I was 9 so I have happy memories of that, but the song by itself is super boring, I had forgotten :(

I'm guilty of really unironically loving "One Time". My fig leaf of a defence is that it was written by Usher.
