Someone needs to tell Zayn that a duet doesn't mean he has to try to hit the same register as the other singer. Falsetto sounds like it's physically hurting him.
Sometimes I like to come back to Todd’s older Top 10’s to see how much he got wrong: “Beyoncé has thoroughly outgrown the Hot 100” “Zayn has such a commanding lead, his bandmates will never catch up” Lol.
Yeah, after seeing Harry Styles blow the hell up and now win a damn Grammy for album of the year, we can all admit that he got this one waaaaaaaaay wrong 😂💀

Funny thing about how one of the Imagine Dragons songs trying to be like that Kanye Song is that we already have Demi Lovato's Confident from 2015 for hit songs that sound like that one.
I live for these videos. My life is either watching your end of the year list videos or sitting on your youtube page constantly refreshing and waiting for your end of the year list videos.
"[Zayn] has a commanding lead in success and sucking that his former bandmates will never, ever catch up." Meanwhile, Zayn's former bandmate Harry Styles gets more top ten hits and his albums are critical darlings with Fine Line getting on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums list while Zayn's new records go nowhere. Oh, Todd. Your failed predictions never cease to entertain me.
i really like harrys first album it was very rock and pop but his second album “fine line” is just a masterpiece and more personal. plus i think louis’ album “walls” is pretty good but ppl dont give a listen to it cuz they always associate him with 1d and according to them 1d= bad music lol
And as for the others: Niall Horan, though not as successful, has made what's probably the best song from any of the non-Harry four with "Nice to Meet Ya;" Louis Tomlinson is doing some solid behind-the-scenes work; and Liam Payne... kinda just burned out. Zayn is probably running fourth out of five at this point.
commercially and critically, harry is by far ahead (which he deserves tbh). i'd put him and niall at a tie for second most relavant now, louis is the very talented but slept on one, and we don't have to talk about liam.
Believer is kinda my guilty pleasure. Plus it’s kinda inspiring once you find out that the whole ‘pain’ and ‘believing’ came from the lead singer’s past in having this really bad disease that basically makes you feel immense pain. Thanks Spotify.
Yeah NYC radio is shit. Its all mediocre hip-hop, the same 15 classic rock albums, and generic pop. Only stations with anything interesting are the jazz stations.
I'm glad I'm not the only one whose alternative radio stations have been particularly annoying this year. I mean, at least last year the (somewhat mediocre) "overplayed" songs were Green Day and Cage the Elephant and such... this year it's been nonstop Imagine Dragons and Coldplay. Seriously, there's two alt rock stations where I live, and they both have just been assaulting me with "Thunder." And what makes it worse is that the radio announcers themselves actually sound kinda pained whenever they're forced to announce that song.
Lol I love Beyonce but I do understand the "stans" around her....cause when you said you didnt like her at first I got pissed so I quickly realized I was one....lol. However, I do just think its because people beleive...and me included (will admit) that she goes above and beyond whats required or expected, especially in her performances. That why they call her the greatest living entertainer
The reason I watch Todd is that he ground my religious love for Beyonce. He's the lead mitigating factor in me not being a literal Stan (yes, the one from the song too) yet
@@galleryofrogues 2020, still dislike Take Me to Church. Hozier has a gorgeous voice but I swear his songs are only popular for their (and his) almost cryptid-like appeal. Cannot remember a single one and they turn to white noise when I actually listen to them.
The Maroon 5 section was perfect. Once you brought up the song, I knew exactly which one you were talking about...but I had also never listened to the song all the way through or learned what it was called, just kept flipping away from it on the radio. So with each new "is this the one?" I was right along going, "No that's still not it" until you finally landed on the right one. I checked when was the last Maroon 5 song I liked. "Wake Up Call," I think, or possibly "Misery." Either way, yes: 3 Thor movies.
*Melody*Moon* The music video is about homosexuals, but the song itself is about sex more than anything. It's the same idea, demonization by the church, but the song is more about how it paints sex as an evil thing. The video is very clearly about how they view gay people though.
Todd... im pretty sure you just opened the gates of hell when you did that AC/DC’s “thunderstruck” edit with Imagine Dragon’s “thunder” at 3:36 Editing such s** into a rock classic....Dont you ever pull a stunt like that again
Did you get dropped on your head when you were born, Dorian? Thunderstruck is a fucking classic for rock, just like Back In Black and even Highway To Hell are!
@@terminallumbago6465 Yeah love Todd, but he really really screwed up on Take Me to Church. I mean you don't have to like the song, but god almighty get the meaning at least right. The video literally tells you want the song is about.
I figured out what Imagine Dragons' appeal is: All of their more recent songs, I'm convinced, are trying to be a Christian Rock band, but without actually invoking God's name. Like, "Believer" -- because they now believe in the Lord, but of course they don't want to actually mention anything Biblical. And in the case of "Thunder" -- the whole imagery of thunder and lightening, but they aren't going to say anything about God's might or power or whatever. ...So, I guess I understand why Todd hates them, now.
I’m pretty sure they’re Mormon. They’re from Utah and one of the deeper cuts from their album seems to hint heavily at being about working as a missionary in the LDS Church. They probably just don’t want to be labeled as a Christian band to get a wider appeal.
...funnily enough that actually matches up with quite a few singles from their first album. i won't apologize for liking on top of the world or demons (after that album their work largely got quite stale unfortunately) but i'll admit they do have a couple of interesting christian rock-ish traits.
I think you're pretty much dead on. They're (very liberal) Mormons, and their faith shows in a lot of their music. Twenty One Pilots is also a Christian group, and I'd say their success could be explained the same way. Now that rock's position as anti-authority has been subverted by the youth who supported it growing up and becoming the authority, it makes sense that hip-hop has taken its place in terms of relevance. Now the genre's only chances for real success is to sell products, appeal to older/conservative markets, or to tap into people's internal yearning for the catharsis of worship through music (whether it's explicitly religious or not)
Dan, the singer, has a wife who is in a much better band, Nico Vega. Nico Vega has opened up for Imagine Dragons. Imagine back when when a young Black Sabbath could have opened for the Monkees and you can picture the talent level drop when the main act hits the stage.
This is honestly why I got into Musical Theater in 2017. I got to listen to so many different types of songs that were unique whilst telling a story. I loved listening to the big popular ones like Hamilton, Wicked, and The Great Comet. I slid love the smaller ones like Heathers and Falssetos!
idk if you can really call Heathers as ''small'' seeing as how its inescapable in the musical fandom XD Falsettoes i can agree to tho, thats a heavily underrated one
Jesus Christ what happened to Imagine Dragons? They fell down hill faster that a rolling boulder. Believe..... what the hell was that song. I mean it sounds good at first, but then they got to the main course.
Also a Believer fan, and I've slowly been listening to more Imagine Dragons over time (I can still acknowledge that Thunder is kinda shit, don't worry.), but I absolutely get all of the points that he brought up. It can seem a bit like watered-down Rock, but I do still enjoy the song. Meh, opinions are fun.
I always love going back to watch old Todd videos and see him describe how awful the year was knowing nothing on earth could possibly compare to our current situation 😬
Just a thought, but if you took out the squeaky voice from Imagine Dragons Thunder and replaced it literally anything else, it'd sound at least SOMEWHAT better.
there was a period of time where i didn't hate the song believer. but then for my final project in one of my second semester film classes, i had to re-edit the music video for it and make it a new video altogether. i listened to that song on repeat for hours when editing that damn project. now i can't hear the song without being filled with immense rage

That’s not fair, my 8 year old loves Imagine Dragons LMAO
the only imagine dragons song i like is amsterdam and thats cuz i heard it in a homestuck mv
Someone needs to tell Zayn that a duet doesn't mean he has to try to hit the same register as the other singer. Falsetto sounds like it's physically hurting him.
*Quick, watch it before it gets taken down!*
Sometimes I like to come back to Todd’s older Top 10’s to see how much he got wrong:
“Beyoncé has thoroughly outgrown the Hot 100”
“Zayn has such a commanding lead, his bandmates will never catch up”
Lol.
Yeah, after seeing Harry Styles blow the hell up and now win a damn Grammy for album of the year, we can all admit that he got this one waaaaaaaaay wrong 😂💀
Hot damn dude. I wasn't expecting this until February. Great job on the punctuality!
Wait, Adam Levine is NOT CGI?!
Nanna Leifa Well of course he is, that's the only way to explain how robotic and overprocessed he is!

Mr. Meme its such a bad song.
WTF IS THIS?!??!? Todd is actually on time this year with his top lists for once
Funny thing about how one of the Imagine Dragons songs trying to be like that Kanye Song is that we already have Demi Lovato's Confident from 2015 for hit songs that sound like that one.
Yeah he’s been pretty productive lately hasn’t he? Maybe he needs the money.

"[Zayn] has a commanding lead in success and sucking that his former bandmates will never, ever catch up."
Meanwhile, Zayn's former bandmate Harry Styles gets more top ten hits and his albums are critical darlings with Fine Line getting on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums list while Zayn's new records go nowhere. Oh, Todd. Your failed predictions never cease to entertain me.
zayn is not regularly producing music
i really like harrys first album it was very rock and pop but his second album “fine line” is just a masterpiece and more personal. plus i think louis’ album “walls” is pretty good but ppl dont give a listen to it cuz they always associate him with 1d and according to them 1d= bad music lol
@@fatima99939 i would just like to agree, walls is beautiful and deserves better. can’t wait to see what louis puts out next
commercially and critically, harry is by far ahead (which he deserves tbh). i'd put him and niall at a tie for second most relavant now, louis is the very talented but slept on one, and we don't have to talk about liam.

Yeah

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose alternative radio stations have been particularly annoying this year. I mean, at least last year the (somewhat mediocre) "overplayed" songs were Green Day and Cage the Elephant and such... this year it's been nonstop Imagine Dragons and Coldplay. Seriously, there's two alt rock stations where I live, and they both have just been assaulting me with "Thunder." And what makes it worse is that the radio announcers themselves actually sound kinda pained whenever they're forced to announce that song.
Persøn Human Same Dude😳
Lol I love Beyonce but I do understand the "stans" around her....cause when you said you didnt like her at first I got pissed so I quickly realized I was one....lol.
However, I do just think its because people beleive...and me included (will admit) that she goes above and beyond whats required or expected, especially in her performances. That why they call her the greatest living entertainer
Niki Bronson I had to accept I was a stan too. I thought I wasn’t, but...
The reason I watch Todd is that he ground my religious love for Beyonce. He's the lead mitigating factor in me not being a literal Stan (yes, the one from the song too) yet

I like both, but I prefer Thunder, only because whenever I hear it, it reminds me of Suicune, for some reason.
It's a shame that they've gone so downhill, since I used to like them back when they actually made good music...
I love the Maroon 5 comments so much hahah. Their last good album was Hands All Over imo.

I always understood Take Me to Church as a song about how the church (some) persecutes homosexuals. I feel like I've missed something
*Melody*Moon* It is. You got it right.
Yh I feel like he missed the point of the song
I mean it is, its about how the church treats outliers and that list includes gay people and others
*Melody*Moon* The music video is about homosexuals, but the song itself is about sex more than anything. It's the same idea, demonization by the church, but the song is more about how it paints sex as an evil thing. The video is very clearly about how they view gay people though.
I was just about to comment the same thing, when he said that i threw my hands in the air and just yelled what.

@@ffjreviews9029 No Maroon 5 is the Modern version of Chicago.
And in the case of "Thunder" -- the whole imagery of thunder and lightening, but they aren't going to say anything about God's might or power or whatever.
...So, I guess I understand why Todd hates them, now.
phastinemoon I think they’re Mormon
