Thanks 👍, It's not even sold yet but I'm already missing the practicality of the van. Hope to make a start on the diesel one later in the year.

You will probably find that one of the big nuts on the ( external ) 5th gear has come lose, and the gear is flopping around. I rebuilt mine using parts from a diesel one, but the bell housings were different, so I couldn't just do a straight swop. If you never felt the vibrations on the steering wheel, before that noise, then you might get away with simply retightening the nut, without removing the whole gearbox. Good luck laying on that rain sodden ground.
If you can locate a dead Galant with a 4G63 engine, the gears should be interchangeable.

When I took the box out I found there was a lot of play in the input shaft bearing. It still shifted ok, so will rebuild it at some point for my other van.

@@SwampChook Watched your video of the gearbox swap. My previous model van ( 1986 ) started leaking past the input shaft oil seal before the 12 month warranty period elapsed, so I returned it for a fix. When I picked it up from the Mitsi garage, they moaned that the job had taken 2 of them a full day to complete. Drove it home, then returned it because they had busted one of the 4x4 switches to the dash light. When I did the gearbox removal on my own I understood the problems. Far easier on the later model, but I don't think that I could do it as fast as you. I'm surprised that you never had hypoid oil all over your clutch if the input shaft bearing is that bad. Must be a very accommodating oil seal. If it looks like that retaining plate has been off, to replace that seal, in the past, and the replacement gasket was of a thinner material, it will have reduced the end float, if the shim washer wasn't changed. Possible cause of the bearing problem.
Judging by the prices that they are asking for those vans on Trademe, I hope that you make a profit when you sell it, assuming that the cyclone doesn't whisk it away first.

I've run only diesels vehicles for years but unless prices fall back to near what they used to be time you pay RUC my next vehicle will most likely be petrol. Since your vans are worth a bit like most older vehicles atm another option could be sell them both work on your other projects( since you have a few) and buy another van in a year or two when hopefully prices are more reasonable

I got the diesel one at a good price. So will just keep it on hold and parked up for now until I have the time to do it all properly I think.
