I think his toms are tuned extremely low. I play an 8" tom as well and have a very similar sound, and my toms are tuned very low. I think you should go with almost the same tension on both heads to get a full sound without any unwanted noise. First, tune the resonant head to the lowest possible tone (!), then do the same with the batter and check out if you got on both sides the same tone and a clean sound. Fine tuning can also be done on only 1 screw on the resonant side. Try it out.

@Hoprgras Remo has all their artists with out talking. Remember their putting a lot of money to create this to promote their heads, not just to make great videos for people to watch. This was a great performance by Gerald. I had fun Directing & Editing this for Remo and Gerald is a good friend of mine. I hope you enjoyed this and God bless you. - C.G. Ryche

Its not the head, its the fact that there is NO muffling in the bass drum and the mic is INSIDE the drum. Also the drums were not equed so naturally the kick makes that boingy sound with no muffling. thats why drummers muffle their kicks. I noticed there was also and external kick drum mic but it was pretty low in the mix i imagine...

It's just that the videos before, folks was wanting to hear the heads, but it was over shadowed by commentary (talking), and you couldn't hear the heads. Needless to say, I'm a Remo Lover for Life. I just curious to see if I would like another Model of Head. And it was nice to finally hear what a Clear Vintage Emperor sound like. I look forward to hearing an Ambassador X. Those I'm Highly Interested in!

The modern day emperor is different from the vintage emperor (it's thinner). This head is the same thickness as the traditional emperors, therefore, the "vintage" emperor is a fitting name. The only reason they offer a clear one is due to high demand. You said you use them. How do you like them? I'm thinking about grabbing a set.

whats the ratio from top head to bottom head? this kit sounds amazing im pretty sold on the heads. although a previous video (from 3 years ago) said it was only made up to a 16 and my floor tom is 18. that might have killed it for me.

I agree that DW's make it a tad bi biased, considering they are some of the best drums in the world, but i dont really agree about the EQ comment. If you are only using two overheads (which is what they have in the vid. unless i am mistaken), then EQ can only take you so far. Even if they EQ'd the crap out of that mix, it is still very impressive to get that mature of a sound out of the snare/toms with just the microphones that are used in the video.

On the snare, toms, and hihat, the Beta98's. Overheads, either KSM32's or KSM44's. And the bass drum, the Beta52.

As good as Remo heads are, the sound in this video seems to be heavily EQ'd and compressed, (where are the overtones!?). I love the sound and the playing but I think this could be false advertising!

All these little films frustrate me to the death, its about the remo heads, quit bringing in all these drummers who show of and do rudiments when all i'm looking to hear are those heads. Half the time he was hitting a cymbal while playing on them. Idk if i'm the only one.
