Personally I link the microphone on top, the S110 (mic on front) sound quality was awful and worse in the wind, it also didn't pick up my voice from behind the camera! Nifty little hack though, might try that ;) cheers fella. p.s S120 = best one SO FAR!

I have to humbly disagree with your assessment. I find the move of the microphones from the front to the top of the camera the BEST decision Canon could have made. I film vlogs, and like many other vloggers, we all use the Canon 330HS precisely BECAUSE the microphones are on top. If you're filming a subject and wish to turn the camera around and film yourself, with microphones on the front, the audio will completely change. By placing the microphones on top of the camera, the audio will be the same whether you are narrating in front or behind the camera. This is CRITICAL for vlogging and why the 330HS previously stood alone. The S120 is finally a camera to replace the aging 330HS and I'm very thankful Canon finally released an updated camera with top microphones. Besides, who "intuitively" would pinch the camera like that? I "intuitively" hold the camera on the sides... like I would assume everyone else on the planet would... besides you I supposed... otherwise your meaty hand blocks the screen, and you can't flip it around, and you could easily drop it and ...
Good points, lafond66, but I guess the point of this video is that you can hack anything to make it do what you want it to do, and look how you want it to look. So this video is a WIN for that reason.
The mic on top works better in the wind and other places, and gets the sound from around the room instead of just in front. They should just implement some soft bump curved for your finger on top over the mic similar to Caseys design
Think a lot of people are aggrivated due to his camera "ruining" because not everybody has enough money to pour around. When i buy something new i protect it and take care of it. Because it was expensive and i want it to last. Casey earns a decent living i am sure of, so he can afford it to be less attached to his stuff. It matters less when he loses or breakes a camera. I dont want to make only assumptions here but that is how i feel about it. PS: still love the pimped camera, and think it's awesome!

You hold a camera really weird... most people don't hold camera's that way. They hold the sides of the camera. I'm glad you made it work for you, but don't act like that's normal to hold a camera like you're pinching something.
Fun Fact: If anyone is looking for an almost perfect camera like the s120 but doesn't want the near $500 price tag, the s110 is almost exactly the same with just a slight drop in still image quality, but it is almost half the price and still has almost the same amazing video quality :)
shittiest camera ever: panasonic zs20 - too long to start up (panasonic logo shows for about 10 seconds) - 20 second delay between finished startup and actually being able to do anything - settings ignored in video mode - cuts off 10 seconds of the start and finish of the video - AVCHD. - cant change many settings - never focuses properly - too much delay between being able to take pictures - data often corrupted - proprietary connectors. - terrible microphone (also on the top, and in the far left too, and its also raised!!) - terrible video quality (decent pic quality... when it works) - HORRIFIC battery! - $400. I like Casey's style with things. If something is wrong, his mindset is do something to fix it or through it out. I like that because the ways he fixes things are pretty handy hacks. He does things in a messy but ordered way.

Hey there. I use the G7X Mark II for all my channel's videos. Unfortunately the Mark II does not come with external mic support. If you do need to capture clearer voice audio, what I recommend is to use a wired lavalier mic and record your voice through your smart phone. After that it's just a matter of layering in your recording as a separate audio file during editing. You can try the BOYA M1 Lav mic.
I need to a point and shoot because I do not want to use an iphone for this task. Because the iPhone storage is limited, everything is in the photoroll, screenshots, b-roll, c-roll, mistaken shots... My GoPro has no screen. My gear 360 is not meant to be used as camera this way. My D3300 is too heavy and should the gold standard of image.
