you know it is very rare to see a Banshee portrayed accurately to Irish folklore. They're not supposed to be wailing wraiths that cause death, but rather women who wailed when the death of a member of the family they were attached to was imminent, they were certainly eerie but weren't harmful.
I never knew the true myths about banshees, only the commonly held claims. Though I did know that they were not inherently evil. Thank you for telling me the truth, and pointing out how accurate this show is to it.
On the first episode I thought /Silky would be jealous of Chise in that typical cliche but was pleasantly surprised when she welcomed her with open arms going as far as to get a hammer ready to break down a door to get Chise out of a room!
I wouldn't have thought Silky would have been the jealous type simply because of what a Silkie is. She most likely views everyone in the household she haunts as tenets/close family members.
@ Except actual folklore depicts his kind as being uncaring and rude most of the time and elias is no more evil than any fae creature. If anything, his capacity to replicate human emotion allows him to feel guilt and grow, which most fey cannot do. There are many fey that continue to kidnap and devour children or take humans at their word to cause misfortune that spriggan will not rebuke. It's only because elias is a half thing that likely attempted to build a human shell for himself to be more human that spriggan dislikes him, his reasoning is just as petty as any other fey. Elias is abnormal and is therefore pitied and despised.
In his defense he has to deal with Oberon on a regular basis and is responsible for organizing the literally incomprehensible scheduling of the ruler of all fae. I'd probably be snippy too.
House spirits are such a forgotten concept. They exist in multiple cultures as spirits that care for the homes/building of good owners, and make life hell for trespassers/ bad homeowners
Finally, an accurate depiction of the bean-sidhe of Irish and Scottish folklore! The bean-sidhe ("woman of the fairy folk" in the original Gaelic) are just messengers! The sound of her wailing and crying is eerie, but she means no harm; she's just trying to warn the family she guards that one of them will soon die.
The manga volumes each end with a one page omake called Silky’s Diary, and a couple of the show Silky and Spriggan both write to one another! I definitely plan on buying physical copies as soon as possible!
here is an idea that I've been thinking around since red hair and green eyes is a little uncommon in Japan would it be jumping to conclusions if Chise may have had ancestors in England Ireland or Scotland and that the people in the house is her ancestors that could explain why silky is behaving like that around her she recognizes her as a member of the family line that she was meant to protect
While she may have some european ties I’m pretty sure her appearance is part of what makes her a slay vega. Her mom and ruths owner also had red hair and green eyes
When that family still lived in that house, Silky had to be subtle about the way in which she took care of the place When Elias moved in, she was free to go wild and do as she pleased
At 1:15 I had a crazy thought like, What if Spriggan literally showed Silky the future? And that mother in the window is actually Chise and the two little ones are her and Elias's kids?
I read the latest volume and it's confirmed that Silky sometimes goes out to see Spriggan when she has free time. It seems like even the author herself lowkey ships them XD.
So she's a banshee who turned into a sub-type of brownie (fairy) called a silky, not a selkie, named Silver Lady. I think I got it now. :P I love this show so much. The animation, the music, the attention to detail in the folklore and characters, it's just so great!
Darkrunn theres more to it than that, in traditional irish folklore banshee’s were not screaming ghosts that caused death but in actuality they were almost like fairys attached to a family and when a member of the family died banshees would wail in grief of the dead announcing it. So the familys they found were actually close to the banshees. Thats why silky was crying. How ever you thought on brownies are a good point!
@@dravenocklost4253 a brownie is sorta like a goblin, a usually helpful fairy to have around the house. Just treat them with respect otherwise they turn into a bogart and drive you nuts.
So Spriggan has a sensitive side. That's encouraging. I forget which episode...Elias and Chise are taking a long time to get back and Silky goes on a cleaning binge...wiping and dusting and sweeping...and then awaits expectantly for someone to arrive.... ...Or glomming on to Chise and whimpering happily when she gets back... ...Such moments are very endearing
Solqueen86 it’s still wrong she’s a silkie another type of house fairy. The show makes it confusing because the characters often refer to her just by silkie but her name is actually silver and silkie is her race
Yup that was an original bloodborne design. It certainly wasn't based on real world styles that this characters attire was also based on. /S Seriously though that's like hearing a quote from Romeo and Juliet and saying it was based on West Side Story
The author confirmed that the design and temperament was based on 'The Plain Doll' as the author loved the game and to pay tribute Silver looks like her. So you don't have to be rude on my comment because you believe you know better when you clearly have done no research into the subject. Also for your information the outfit attire that Sliver wears is wrong for the time period as women did not wear pink in the Victorian era as it was improper pink was actually worn more by men than women who were advised to look at pale blues and green for their attire not to mention that the country in the Victorian era was placed under mass morning thus many wore black. A bonnet was also not worn with that attire as the dress is too high of quality to be worn with what would be described as a farm/peasant head wear. Women of lower class wore bonnets higher class like her dress wear hats. Her attire has little application to the world.
I call bullshit. I am not finding anything from the author saying she was based on the Plain Doll. Just that she looked similar from the wiki. On top of that the manga, which this anime is based on, existed far before Bloodborne's release. The Ancient Magus's Bride manga started in 2013, Bloodborne was released in 2015. Show some actual proof before you make claims like that and do some actual research that's not just a fan wiki. I like both characters too but ''roasting'' someone over something fabricated is kinda shitty.
My only gripe with this entire show is their willingness to distribute names. For a show so accurate with its lore (compared to most other media) they forgot the most important rule. That names hold immense power

It seems Silver Lady lost the family she was living with very suddenly and all at once. Maybe by a plague. But since she's sitting on the ruins of a house, I could imagine that the house might have been burned down or bombed. All family members seem to have died together and she is sad and traumatized, perhaps in shock. She wanders around alone, unable to look for a new family. Then she is found by Spriggan. He takes pity on her and gives her a new task. Instead of continuing to live as a Banshee, she now becomes a Silky (not to be confused with Selky - that would be Lindel's familiar). Silkies are a type of brownies - these are fairies that live in human houses. They help people with chores, take care of the house and sometimes play pranks on people. As I understand it, Silkies are less attached to people and more attached to specific homes and environments. As long as someone lives there and a light is on, the Silkies are at home there. This is what Spriggan hints at when he shows her a house where a family lives and where she is to live from now on. Later Elias moves into the house and Silver Lady stays there instead of going with the family. Her special relationship with Chise probably stems from the fact that, like all fairies, Silver is particularly attracted to Sley Beggies. But surely also because Chise brought more life into the house. Silkies like housework, cooking, decorating etc.

On the first episode I thought /Silky would be jealous of Chise in that typical cliche but was pleasantly surprised when she welcomed her with open arms going as far as to get a hammer ready to break down a door to get Chise out of a room!

Your not wrong about Chise being european. When Ashen Eye came over to give Chise the shape-shifting robe, he detected something European about her
A "little" uncommon? Haha i would say it's 0% possible. Her background definitely seems European-inspired, that's for sure.
