I don't normally comment on videos, but I got a flat on this specific truck last night at like 11pm, and this video helped me not panic and be able to do it myself. My dad died when I was young, so I have to learn and do most of this stuff by myself. Thanks for being there to virtually hold my hand!
Thank you. Being in my 60’s, I’ve done this a lot. But with a new truck, your video helped not waste time looking for the jack and taught me the proper way to do the change quickly and safely
very good video, alot of video skip over a lot of different parts. i used to work in a tire shop, it is amazing how many people don't know how to change a tire. i have had two rangers before i got my new Maverick, and the tire system still works the same, with a few new up grades. some things look so easy until you have to do it yourself. good video, thanks , rob
Thank you Betty!!!! You saved us! We got a flat tire while camping off grid and thanks to this video we were able to avoid $350+ of towing and repair. It was so easy peasy and we “enjoyed the moment” 😉 So appreciate you for making this video!
Great Video, you're a good presenter. I've worked on cars, trucks, etc but this is why I'm happy I have roadside assistance. The video is helpful though if I'm on a deserted island!
Definitely one of the more clearly described videos. Hope you make more. Like you say, this will probably happen in a bad spot at a bad time. But stay positive and know exactly what to expect. Hats off to you 👏.
Great video! I really like how you showed each important step and honestly made changing tire look very easy and straight forward. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! Thankfully, I haven't had to change to many tires in my many years of driving. The hardest ones were when I was off-roading in the desert, always a real challenge keeping the jeep secure from moving while removing the flat tire.
This video was PERFECT and way more informative than the other 3 I found first. Thanks for taking the time to film every step and all the great camera angles. Betty is the BEST!!
Fantastic video. You're a saint for taking the time to show us how it's done! I vividly remember helping my elderly landlord change his tire on a dirt road off Hwy 280, south of San Francisco, in the rain. He had a ca. 1993 Toyota truck (forget the model), and I had to squirm under it in the mud to get the spare, which lacked the practical system the Maverick has. I was so filthy would have ridden home in the back, had it had been legal.
Thanks for making this video. I know how to change a tire like most people, but i didn’t know where all the stuff on my new maverick was. Thanks again!
This was a GREAT video. Helpful, informative, and just chock full of great tips and comments. Thanks for taking the time and effort. Very nice job. Not everyone knows how to change a tire or maybe it's been decades. But you never know when you might have to and perhaps AAA is not available for whatever reason, right? Thanks again.
You are welcome, thank you for watching. If this video gives someone the confidence to do something they wouldn’t have otherwise been able to do then I feel I’ve done my job, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and have a great day
Stumbled upon your video. Nice tutorial. I got my Maverick XL a month ago. Looked at your other videos on your channel. Pretty eclectic mix. You seem very handy in many areas. Thanks again. Now I am a subscriber 👍
Fantastic video! You covered everything a Maverick owner would need to know. I am hoping to test drive a turbo AWD model in the next few days. If I like it, I will order a XLT with nearly every option for about 31k.
Very detailed video ❤. Still waiting on my mav hybrid but its nice to learn all about it here before im stuck on the road with a flat. Thanks again and greetings from Canada.
Thanks so much a great detailed video. I have a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid and NO spare tire. You answered al questions about this. I would of been lost.
Great video, Betty! A guy at work when I was 19 yrs young actually showed me how to change a tire & had me do it while he watched. Fast forward ...43 yrs later, I totally forgot as in all those yrs I've never had another flat. Especially as a woman, it's SO important to know how to do basic things to your car, i.e. changing a flat, checking & filling all fluids, tire wear & pressure, condition & proper connection of hoses, etc. I was in my late 30's when one day my car just died while driving on an old, semi-country 2 lane road. I pulled over & the 1st car stopped and a man that gave me the creeps wanted to take me into the nearest town so I can get my mechanic to tow car to shop. I had no cell phone back then. Another car stopped as well, thankfully a woman & I probably pissed the man off but I thanked him & went w/the woman. Point is, women are easy prey sometimes (there's also decent men too). I had lots of creeps hitting on me when I was young. Now I'm much older not so much but it's still a good idea to be able to get yourself back on the road again quick for safety. My granddaughter will be driving this yr & my son will def teach her & her brother all the basics as well.
Great information thank you for sharing. Always trust your instincts! If someone gives you the creeps get away from them as quickly as possible. And keeping up maintenance on your car will help keep you out of situations that could be bad. Thank you again and have a wonderful day.
Great job!! I use a 16 inch screw driver to lift the tire up, also a 12 volt impact wrench is a good investment. And last of all my maverick Lariat came with road side assistance. You did a very good job of explaining the tire change. I will have to check out why you have to crawl under the truck to remove one nut.
As much as roadside assistance is a thing, waiting for them to arrive can eat up a lot of time, and the longer you're on the side of a highway, the more danger you face.
@@SweetBearCub Also, might want to be a member of two roadside assistance clubs because one of them might not come at all or come 4 hours from time notified--having a backup helps!
Nice video. Only thing is I would not recommend putting your feet/legs under a tire on a vehicle that is only supported by a jack. When you are pushing/pulling on the tire is when the jack has the greatest chance of failing. Also, I may have missed it, but I suggest that you always set the parking brake in addition to putting the vehicle in park and blocking the wheels when jacking up a vehicle, especially when on the side of the road with a sketchy factory jack and maybe not the best jacking surface. I think your videos give people the confidence to help themselves.
thank you so much for sharing! this is really a very clear step by step instructions how to do it! When you purchased the vehicle new the nuts where not properly fixed in!???
The nuts were not loose but they were not up to correct torque. Perhaps though it was something that happened at the dealership and not necessarily the manufacturer
Did we get a new pickup truck? Nice! In the early seventies a Maverick was a small compact car sold by Ford. (It hard to believe that 45 years later Ford calling a full size truck Maverick).😄 I got my start in a Ford Dealer Ship in the early seventies. My Dodge ram has the same kind of Jack system. I use a 1/2 inch drive ratchet, 1/2 inch drive deep well 6 point socket that fit the jack, also two 8 or 10 inch long 1/2 inch drive extension bars. this will make more easy to Jack up the truck. P.S. also get a (deep well 1/2 inch drive 6 point socket that will fit the log nuts for that truck. keep a rain jacket in the truck. ( flat tire and rain runs together.☁🌩🌧) God Bless you and your Husband.
Great to know! I had know clue how that tire came down, a bit a pain in the ass. Would not want to do that in the winter time. One more reason I am liking the Ridgeline. If I do get the Mav -- I will be changing that jack. Cheers
Great video, thank you. I HIGHLY recommend that ALL Maverick owners, do this exercise, at least once, for familiarity. It is a little tricky, getting the spare, separated from the lowering cable. Another point, when you order a full size spare tire, the spare you get is smaller than the 4 tires that come on the car. It's not a donut, but it is smaller than the stock tires?
Good video and thank you! I'm an old gearhead and I watched your video because I wanted to see how the Maverick spare was lowered down and so forth, and I stayed with it to the end. And thanks for showing that part about the strap. That's a new thing. I haven't heard of 140 ft. lbs. on (basically) a car, and you're right that is a very high number. Are sure the torque is set that high? I'm wondering if you might have glanced at the metric figure. It would look like "Nm 140" Nm being Newton Meters. Another question: Does the Owner's Manual state if a smaller wheel like your 17" spare, can go onto the front axle with the 18" wheel? It used to be that a spare had to be the same size as the wheels on the drive axle or they would spin at different speeds and damage the transaxle.
Good morning and thank you for your comment, the torque should actually be 148 ft lbs or 200 Nm. Although the spare has a 17 inch wheel/rim the overall height of the tires are the same. Hope this helps and have a great day
@@NotamechanicBetty Thank you. Clear information. Very interesting. Seems that Ford thought through on the tire diameter. Amazed at the 148 ft. lbs.! Has me wondering what the torque is for the steel wheel. I've subscribed. Have a great day too.
Buy a cheap battery powered cordless impact driver and the proper sockets ,to get out of the freezing sleet and the rushing highway vehicles faster .LOL Store it behind the rear seat.
Do you have 18" wheels or 17" on your lariat? Also if you have 18" on your lariat is the full size spare 18" or 17"? Thanks again, I can't wait for my FE hybrid to be built and shipped.
I had to crawl back under the truck to make sure I'm giving you the correct info....The tires on the truck are 18" and the spare is a 17". Thanks for asking have a great day
Are you referring to the (what I might call a) lug nut wrench? That is folded up in the black pouch behind the back seat. It’s kinda strange looking it took me a minute when I saw it
My hybrid xlt will be delivered in may 2022, i wish i had seen this video 9 months ago.. i didn't realize how difficult it can be to access a spare tire on a pickup truck.. If that happen to me i will also have to remove the child seat to get access to the tools behind the rear bench. And put the child seat back once im done.. as for the tire change, i live in a winter very cold region. And here we got feet of snow and ice and oily dirty slushy .. to grab the spare tire i will need somekind of wetsuit as i will not want to sit back in the vehicle after. In your case, you are a woman so im sure, 20 cars will stop to help you.
After about 7,000 miles on the tires start regular tread depth checks and have them replaced when it’s time. Also, carry a plug kit in your glove compartment in the case you get a nail in your tire, you can plug it in just a few minutes and be on your way. Some times, in life, can be uphill both ways. Stay positive and you will get through and realize how much stronger you are because of it
@@ThisGuyRides exactly. I would try to figure out if I can rig an impact to drop my tire and jack up the jack. I don't know if a quarter inch impact would have enough torque to do the jacking though.
