Your mix for the wipes was 1 part alcohol 91%, one part lotion, which made it 45.5% alcohol. Next time try using 2 parts alcohol (91%), 1 part lotion as it will make it 60.67 % alcohol if you want it to be effective. Be safe
@@richmo6279 since 70% is kinda low to use to make sanitizer, you'll have to use 7 parts alcohol and 1 part other.... it will make a solution of 61.25%. You 1 part other will include the aloe vera

@@keridasilva7141 Use 100% grain alcohol...aka Everclear from a liquor store. It must be 100% pure grain alcohol, do not use any other alcohols besides high % rubbing alcohol. If adding essential oils be sure they are actually real essential oils not just purfumed oils. Good luck.
Thank you for this video, I appreciate people like you who teach others who cant find items in the stores how to do it ourselves, the only issue I'm having now is that it seems NOWHERE has any rubbing alcohol anymore or aloe vera 😥 but the second I find some, I WILL be doing all 3 of these myself since it's also almost impossible to get any of these kinds of disinfectants, even online. Just an FYI, you have to calculate the amount of alcohol to aloe(or lotion) in order to have the right percentage of alcohol. If you put too much lotion or aloe the amount of alcohol will be diluted and won't be at 70%(recommended). ie: your hand sanitizer mix is way off when you added the whole bottle of aloe vera gel. Your alcohol content in your hand sanitzer is most likely way under 70%.
You are so right everyone saying to use 99% alcohol you cannot even find it I know the CDC said 60 or higher you can you 70% everyone don't be scared you can use less than 99% you could use in between 60 and 70% alcohol if you can find it good luck everyone and please be safe
Maggy Fernandez the recommendation is for the final product to have at least a 60% alcohol content by volume. That means I’d you start with say 70% alcohol and you add other ingredients then you are diluting the alcohol so you have to get the ratios right so that you are at the correct level of alcohol. You have to calculate it. What she made is going to have a less than 60% alcohol content but in order to know for sure she would have to take the.....well, I’ll leave it at that. That would not be effective hand sanitizer.
What they have at Dollar Tree is not essential oil. It's fragrance oil. So people who want to use essential oils for their antibacterial properties need to know that fragrance oils can't do that. I'm glad to know about those cloths. Thanks for the link. I'm going to buy those right away
Thank you so much for sharing we all appreciate different ways of making ourself and others and things we touch very safe thank you so much and you be safe also
this is awesome. Thank you for your due diligence in being so creative in coming up with this recipe for hand wipes. Also, I agree with those... you have a very nice soothing voice - you should make meditation tapes and sell them. :)
I just tried to make hand sanitizer with 99% isopropyl and aloe gel. Used the recipe online. But it is very liquid. Any suggestion. Costco just received the alcohol on wed. Pack of 4. One per family
Sure, just give the aloe time to gel. It's completely normal for the mixture to be very liquid when you initially mix it. You'll see it more gel like as time goes, it just takes time 🙂
I can't seem to find essential oils so are they necessary? I appreciate your time making this video. I've also seen others and they all say oils , so that is why I ask. Great job on video again!!
I buy my essential oils at Hobby Lobby (or similar) in the candle section & where they have the soap making supplies. Each section carries different scents. Just read labels to make sure they are 100% essential oils. Also, get their weekly 40% off coupon from their website if not on sale!
thank you! however, these things are HIGHLY flammable so that everyone please know this when smoking, leaving in a hot car, using around open flames and stoves!
not a bad idea to make your own wipes but the problem in most areas now is getting the Alcohol... I just went to my local Walmart store and the only Alcohol they had was the 50% 16 oz bottles, I went at just the right moment, when I first went to see if they had any Alcohol the self was empty none at all of any kind. A few minutes later I was on another aisle just over from the Alcohol and saw a worker with a box taking to the Alcohol aisle, so I went to see what she had and just in luck she was stocking the 50% on the shelf. I watched 3 or 4 other people doing the same thing as I was and walk up, so I asked her if it was Alcohol that she was putting on the shelf she said yes but they only had the 50%, I said well that is better than none so I took 2 bottles. leaving some for other people that were walking up wanting some but the next person was not as nice and stock up taking the rest of what she had... so see people are just being greedy when the next person could have did like I did and take just a couple and then allow the next person after them get a couple, then in a week we can always go back and check for more later the worker did tell me that they are getting more deliveries every day trying to restock the shelves, so we could have checked back another day. I feel that Walmart, whoever does the order for them should have ordered more boxes, knowing that they will sale out of them fast anyway.
For the hand sanitizer? No, it would be better to put the alcohol in a small spray bottle by itself and use it alone than to add dish soap. The aloe vera is there to keep your hands from drying out.
If you use essential oils in your spray, amber glass is best. Essential oils are light sensitive and the amber glass completely blocks UV light. You could also use a blue glass bottle, but don't use plastic. The essential oils can break down plastic compounds and that could lead to leaching 🙂
I know the essential oil is optional, but those roll ons are ready to use and have a carrier oil. They are NOT 100% essential oil. But for scent and a bit of moisturizing, not a bad addition!
There is absolutely not one bottle of rubbing alcohol to be found in my County. Just to be thorough I sat on the phone for an hour and called every drug store and grocery store in a 30 mile radius and not one had a bottle of rubbing alcohol. So wherever you got a bottle of 91% alcohol you were very very lucky!
I was able to find alcohol restocked at Target and today I was in the grocery store and saw they had aloe leaves for sale where the produce was located
Swifter dry cloths is what I purchased at my local grocery store. Dollar General has a generic brand of 32 cloths for $6 that work just fine. I also purchased the antibacterial Palmolive dish soap to put on mine
The components of your products are good, the math is not correct. The % of alcohol is being reduced to way less than the recommended above 60% content. So yes, math is importantly tantamount in the calculation for the accurate proportion of alcohol in your products to be effective. The bottle with the opening needs to be covered in order keep alcohol from evaporating.
Yes, but I would stick to ones that have naturally derived ingredients. If you want to use the wipes to sanitize surface areas, you won't need the lotion at all. Maybe add a few drops of essential oil for fragrance
CDC says 70%, they don't make 60, typically you find 50, 70 and 91, 91 is best because you are diluting it with other things, you can also use 80 proof or above clear drinking alcohol like vodka or everclear, I wouldn't use lotion unless you are using it for skin, if using it for surfaces it's not necessary
Their website states at least 60%, but because isopropyl alcohol, as you said, goes from 50% to 70%, their site is good for people to refer to so they won't think the 50% concentration is sufficient. And yes, the diy disinfectant spray is preferred for items like remote controls 🙂
They are saying you need at least 70 percent alcohol and if you dilute it it won't be strong enough to kill any germs. So be careful using something you have made.
@@emilymulcahy Mostly everyone is wrong so far. You need a final product of 70% Isopropyl or 60% Ethanol. They are two different chemicals and the Ethanol does a better job of killing enveloped viruses which is why you need a lower percentage to kill it. You cannot start with 70% Isopropyl and get the recommended finished product. Ethanol that you buy at the liquor store such as Everclear, Golden Grain, or Diesel needs to be in 150 proof or 190 proof. Using 80 proof Ethanol will not work as it is only 40% alcohol. The wait period is only if you are using Hydrogen Peroxide 3%, if you aren't using it there is no wait period.
