I continue to be astounded at how this trail was blazed back in the day. You are making great progress given the terrain. “Only 8 miles” seems pretty good from where I sit on my side of the golf course. Hike safe.
Definitely a good idea to take zeros when needed. At this stage of the hike, terrain is rugged. Nice place to camp for your zero. Showers. coffee, snacks. Your still shots at the end are a nice review of what you hiked for the day.
Kyle Rohrig {Mayor} "Lost on the Appalachian Trail", "Racing Winter on the Pacific Coast Trail", "Chasing Summer on the Continental Divide Trail"; said the AT was the most physically demanding of the three. I didn't understand until I've watched you and Bluegrass the last 168 days. I had no idea what the AT was like. Congratulations to you both. You are both impressive.
Days 166 and 167 must have been exhausting where every step has to be deliberate. Good idea to take a zero to recover. Beautiful views. Thanks for sharing.
Just watched your first hiking day at 27degrees a d you did 15 miles. The difference in you back then to now is apparent how you spoke and hiked. Nothing to put my finger on it but you are most definitely more of a pro at this hiking stuff. It was so infectious to “feel” you excitement. Great video. I think what I’m going to do is to rewatch from day two on. Keep on keeping on Chuck, can’t say enough about how proud I am of what you’ve done all the while living vicariously through you!
The views are stupendous! I got a cortisone shot in my bum knee last time I went up to the High Peaks of the Adirondacks. The doc told me going up would be the easy part. Coming down would be another story and to even turn around and go down backward if I needed to. I have always always hiked up mountains faster than hiking back down. Don’t know if that still holds true in my seventh decade of life. Glad you took a zero - gotta listen to our bodies.
Gotta ask. How did you and Bluegrass negotiate the rock ledge/cliff going down North Carter? It really perplexed me. I ended up doing an uncontrolled butt slide with hard landing. 😂This area could definitely use a ladder.
After Katahdin, Bandit hobbles into the doctors’ office and says; doctor, I’ve hiked all the way from Springer Mountain and my ankle is killing me. Can you take a look at it? Sure says the doctor and he put the stethoscope to the right side of Bandits ankle and he hears “hey Doc, can you lend me five dollars?” Puzzled, he puts the stethoscope to Bandits ankle on the left side. He hears “Hey Doc, can you lend me $20 ?” The doctor puts his stethoscope down and starts shaking his head from side to side. Bandid says “well, Doc, did you find out what’s wrong with my ankle?”The doc looked up and said “yes, and I really hate to tell you this; but your ankle is broke in two places !!!”
I’ve been looking at those trees around you that gives a burnt out look, but I know that’s not it. Do they have like a pine beetle or Hemlock wooly adelgids disease going on?
First state is pretty as New Hampshire it has a monitor of live Free or die they sure are liberal when it comes to politics and what I mean liberal I mean liberal socialist Communist Democratic liberal

Hahaha. That was a tough day

Thanks. I’m glad that you notice the stills. I wasn’t sure if anyone even looked at those.
@@ChuckHowell-Outdoors - Yep, I enjoy them.

And you did it on a broke leg.
Thanks. We’ve had several triple crowners tell us the same thing.

Yes! Thank you!

Wow thanks!!!! I think I have learned a lot on my journey.

Going down is always harder on the joints
Nice scenery. Thanks for sharing. Glad you guys are listening to your bodies. Hopefully Debby is not wrecking too much havoc where you are.
Thanks. We’re having to take a zero to wait it out. I just hope the streams don’t swell too much.
No rushing, your adventure is slowly coming to an end. Take it all in and get some rest.
We’re “savoring “ the last state
I like how you acknowledge the trail!
Thanks

I can’t really recall, but I’m sure it was like most of the steep ones. Walked near the side holding on to trees, rocks, and roots.
The Whites are amazing but very tough. Beautiful dog.
Yes they are! And I love dogs.
She’s making you work for it, that’s for sure! Thanks for showing us how incredibly tough this last stretch is. Y’all are tough mudders! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Thanks. It will all be worth it at the end.
Will you, or did you, come pass Captain Jack? Y’all are right by each other as he heads back south.
We did. He will be in an upcoming video
@@ChuckHowell-Outdoors that’s awesome! I’m looking forward to seeing you all together. Finish strong guys. You have a huge team rooting you on!!!!
Rest up it's been some brutal hiking. The trail is making you work hard at the end.
It’s definitely making us work for it

I’m not sure. I think it’s just a normal fungus due to all the moisture.
Thank ya buddy, very deserved zero, o’ oh Walmart, heading north

A well deserved zero!
Thanks

Thanks. It’s beautiful and the moniker is correct, but I like to stay clear of politics here.
