⭐️⭐️Hey Kristyn! Where did you get your PMP from? I have seen the PMI institute but was unsure if that’s the correct one because I have seen other websites.
I literally just found your channel after realizing I would like to get into the PM field after realizing it's what I currently do for a living. I am finishing up my MBA and want to immediately begin working on my project management certification. I found that Google offers a project management certification course. Would you recommend this course training? Does it matter where I get the certification from? How would I be able to know if my current role qualifies as hours in the field or not? Thank you so much for your advice! It's not everyday that I see fellow black women speaking from a place of expertise.
Hello and thank you for the message! I am not familiar with Googles course but I would say be sure you get your certification from an accredited program. I decided to go with PMI.org because its broadly recognized (even internationally) I would see if PMI.org recognizes the course that Google offers and I would look into taking the exam with them if you can.
In the engineering world the PMP is not necessarily as sought after as people think. Usually the PMP needs to be accompanied by a PE (which is more valuable 10 fold) to be of any significance. When I’m hiring and see only PMP its not a discriminating factor. Additionally on any business card I do not recommend including any degree such at MBA or PHD unless pursuing a position in academia. There a fantastic project managers without certifications, and there are terrible project managers with PMP, MBA, PHD and a host of other ego boosting certifications. As a younger professional obtaining the advanced degree and any certification isn’t a bad idea. I would just suggest it is not the highlight of your resume, business card, or even your elevator speech/introduction. Your accomplishments or appetite for experience should be what you highlight. I’ve hired hundreds of people and its only my professional opinion, take what you can use and leave the rest.
To each their own. I have learned of hiring managers who look for the letters such as PMP, MBA, etc. I do agree there are awesome PM’s who do not have the certification, but then again, everyone is different. I have obtained an MBA in Project Management and have yet to hear back from companies for a PM role. I am now going for my PMP to see if I can leverage more opportunities. I also see you have the state of Texas as your display pic. I’m originally from Houston and have worked both in Houston and Austin. Unfortunately, the market there did not work out for me, so I ended up leaving the state as the result. I do thank you for sharing your input, at least it gives me an idea of what some hiring managers have in mind.
Thanks for chiming in Bob. I would agree but I also think that it depends on the company. Some companies require the certification and do not hire PMs without it and some do not value it. (If I am not mistaken I believe I touched on my perspective on this a little bit in the video.) At my company which is engineering focused we do not have a ton of PMs but if you do not have your certification you most likely will not be considered to compete for a PM role. They also often outsource many PM roles to consultants who are certified PMPs. I also see a lot of PMs coming from consulting firms that don't do project management for us but are all certified (BCG is one.) I guess my point is I think it depends on what each organization values and focuses on. I do also agree that a certification doesn't guarantee skillset but I do think that it does offer benefits to someone who knows how to sell it on their resume and for me increased my confidence level tremendously. Thanks again for chiming in and joining the discussion! It's good to have various perspectives for those who are debating how to proceed with their careers.
@@shamekadunbar I am originally from Texas and went to SHSU just north of Houston. I've been working internationally since 1994. Retiring in San Antonio in the next 12 months. I have no doubt everyone here will do well.
I mean isn't it the goal to get the MBA with the PM concentration then get the PMP right after??? I feel like that would be the most solid thing to do. That is kinda the path I am on right now. I'm doing a double concentration then going to get the PMP cert after.

Hello! I am an Architect and I am currently studying a Master in Real Estate Development, would you recommend to study a master in project management a couple or a few years later to keep my career moving? Would a Master in Project Management be a waste of time and money or would i benefit from it? Or do you recommend a MBA instead?
I know there is a like button but there should have been a love button for this content. I loved it. It was most definitely informative so thank you so very much. I graduated about 3years ago with a Bsc in Dental Hygiene Dental Therapy and I've always wanted change careers to do my masters to be more involved in corporate. . But I didn't want to get involved just for the sake of just having an Master. I researched and thought about it and I wanted to do my masters in either health promotion or health administration this year. . However they are both off cycle programmes which runs every other year. Bomber. So in the interim I wanted to the Pmp but I was told you have to have experience in planning projects etc. So I decided to do a Diploma in Project management to make myself my marketable for jobs in the future and even when the schools are selecting candidates for the master programmes. What do you think? Your advice or opinion. would be appreciated. ❤️❤️
The comment I was looking for ! . I'm also an Electrical and Instruments Engineer . Decided to first have Diploma in PM to attract jobs then have experience and get a PMP later
KristynAlexis Thank you! That makes sense. A full time program would be an adjustment now that I have been working full time for four years. The main concern would be the lost income (vs. part time I could keep my main job), but I would likely recoup that with a salary increase after graduating. I appreciated your explanation of the MBA vs. PMP in this video as well. 😊

Not every PMP is an MBA.
Wouldn't advise on this dose
Where did you get your PMP certificate?
Project management institute
Hiiii I just completed my masters in public administration and now wants to pursue mba project management can u tell me Ms project management is better or mba project management
Kristyn, with a fee of course, are you willing to do private coaching? I just need some guidance on careers/ getting into companies and making myself more marketable etc. I got my MBA (General) from Walden University this past April, but I have not been able to utilize the degree. Thanks!
Sure you can email me at the email in my description box ❤️

What online mba program do you recommend?
I unfortunately am not familiar with many online programs. I would start by researching ranked programs in business week. That’s the most reputable ranking location for B School.
KristynAlexis thanks for answering
Hello! I am an Architect and I am currently studying a Master in Real Estate Development, would you recommend to study a master in project management a couple or a few years later to keep my career moving? Would a Master in Project Management be a waste of time and money or would i benefit from it? Or do you recommend a MBA instead?
what schools in UK offer mba in project management?
Do you think it’s better to do a part time or full time MBA?
Full time from a ranked school ❤️
KristynAlexis Thank you! That makes sense. A full time program would be an adjustment now that I have been working full time for four years. The main concern would be the lost income (vs. part time I could keep my main job), but I would likely recoup that with a salary increase after graduating.
I appreciated your explanation of the MBA vs. PMP in this video as well. 😊
Did your company pay for you to do the PM certification or did you do it on your own and then request a salary increase?
Hi Kristyn I am civil engineer also certified PMP, was having many questions about pmp and MBA you cleared my mind so wanna start MBA online which university or online school you will recommend
I just finished law school and I started an MBA. Can you tell me the benefit of combining both majors in order to find a job? Thank you
Like JD / MBA? I have a friend who went the route you’re going and she’s now a VP at American Express. Was a great pathway for her!
@@KristynAlexis thank you for your quick response. I had a LLM( master in law for foreign attorneys). I hope it works out for me. I am nervous about it has been a long way. You inspire me.
Thank you so much and that’s so awesome!
Thanks a lot
What about MBA concentration project management?
Im between MBA in finance or MBA project management?
Depends on what you like to do. Jobs in finance and project management are very different. Finance can take your further in your career though. Worse case do finance and get your certification to be a PM as well.
@@KristynAlexis thank you so much. You clarified all my questions with this video. Happy Holidays!!
I'm in my senior year of undergrad majoring in Marketing with a Concentration in Supply Chain. I want to pursue an MBA program after graduation, but I'm not sure if it should be in a specific area or a general MBA. Also, what are some tips for preparing for the GMAT exam?
I did Kaplan but I don’t think it’s necessary. I would for sure make sure you do a few practice tests to ensure you’re ready. That exam is no joke lol.
Hie , I'm just checking up on your decision . Did you later pursue a general MBA or
What about a Masters of Project Management?
If from a really good school but personally I think a concentration in something else and then a certification in PM would take someone further.
I feel like your channel was just at 100k a few weeks ago. Am I recalling correctly?! Anyway... congrats on the UA-cam success. I’ve been around a while and appreciate the content. ⭐️
I’m studying for my PMP as well. Do you have any recommendations on finding a study partners?
I found a few people at work who were interested in doing it with me. I would also look at the local chapters to see if they have any recommendations as I am sure there are a lot of opportunities to connect with others who are on the same pathway. Good luck with the exam!
Yess....🌟🌟🌟❤
What about a MS and PMP
Oh that’s a good comparison. I’m not as educated on the benefits of MS but will look it up foe sure.
