- If you go off road in groups, you need a chase light! This Toyota Tacoma bumper mounted chase light makes your truck easier to see in dust, rain, fog and at night. I'll show you how to add this small but bright light into the stock rear bumper of my 3rd Gen Tacoma.

Correction! I said I used 1/2" flex tubing... but I actually used 3/8". 1/2" would be a tiny bit too big.
I did a couple sections of WABDR this summer as the lead truck and it was really dusty. My buddies told me a couple times they were glad I had my roof mounted chase lights.
The video showing the with and without difference was really effective. Plus that light looks factory. Good job!
Many thanks! Yeah it was crazy dusty.
Great install and straight forward! Love that it looks OEM. I might have to do that to my Tacoma. 👌🏽
Great video! I appreciate how in depth you are about the installation process!
So dope! This will be my next lighting mod
Can't wait for more overland content!
Very nice ! I just added DD rear chasers on my Leitner and couldn’t be more stoked . Wired up so they back glow amber when headlights are on , and work awesome for chase and recovery
100%. I put the same light but in pod version rear facing on my Colorado. Until last week on our "watch the eclipse" desert trip, I wasn't sure how valuable it was....but my buddies following me definately thought it was a good idea! The dust was completely blinding at times. I also had forward facing amber fog lights for the same reason; I have the ability to strobe them, helps move slow people like Subarus out of my way 🙂
Yep... It was a bit hilarious how we had no dust on the 2nd half of our trip. But the new light cut through fog nicely as well.
Love the chill install vibes in the second half. ✌️ Overall, fantastic stuff. Chase lights in those dusty situations is a must have.
Nicely done Jason 👍😁
Looks clean. Great job jason
Get the adventure video done!
You come help then! There’s like 15 hours of footage to go through you punk! 😂😭
Great job! Thx Jason!
Hey, you're welcome!
I put my chase lights on the rear of my prinsu rack and added a second air chuck for my compressor to that spot in the rear bumper. Great video
Good ideas!
Nice video!
Thanks guy. 👍
so sick!
Thanks!
that would be cool in red, like a rear fog light 😬🙌🏽
Nice install!! Not sure this would work on my Bison due to the spare tire access port but it looks very clean on your rig. Also, did I miss a different video on the trailer hitch protector/shackle mount you have visible at the end of the video?
Yeah for the Bison check out this video we did a while back: ua-cam.com/video/MWaxtRA1lho/v-deo.html
Yeah that's a hitch slider I got for Christmas from my awesome wife. Never made a video about it.
@@JasonExplainsThings Well, if you are so inclined to to drop a 30 second clip in your next video on the details and how it performs that'd be awesome.
Future’s so BrighT!
On our Volvo XC70 and many other European cars it is called a "Rear Fog Light". Incorporated in the driver's side taillight.
Nice. I’m for it.
I had a Jaguar in the past that had rear fog lights. I thought those were so cool. They were red not yellow.
I should have added the bright red light melts accumulating snow. I've experienced times when it was the only light visible on the back of our Volvos. I know in some markets it's available on GM because my Z71 Tahoe has a rear fuse labeled "rear fog". Option RPO T79. Not in Canada.@@JasonExplainsThings
Could you please put out a second video explaining the use of the chase light for on road/off road? When can it be used at high/low/backlight? I have ditch lights from diode and understand the forward facing requirements, but curious about any restrictions of rear facing lights.
I use them if it’s dusty, foggy or if the person behind me asks me to turn them on.
Use a fog lens that way all the light can be even across. I swapped the lens from my hitch to wide I didn’t like the flood
Bison Man 3:17!
Bison Man needs to be in every video!
Very nice work Would a red fog light be better?
Amber is best for dust… which is the primary reason I added the chase light.
Oddly enough, I noticed the rig with the bumper lights in the last video and thought they “what a great idea”. Thanks for being a mind reader……
And not to give you a reason to roll your eyes-when does the adventure movie drop?
Thanks! Yeah the adventure video will take time to edit while I put our smaller videos. It’s going to be like an hour long I’m guessing.
That is clean! I never associated chase lights in this layout either, but it actually makes a lot of sense. Thinking out of the box!
Thanks Kai! Yeah I've been very pleased. My off-road buddies were surprised by how bright and effective it was. A nice solution since I'm not looking to remove the stock bumper since I want to maintain my factory hitch.
Back lighting?
High and Low. Low is pretty just for looks.
I think it's time to get a switch panel instead of the rat's nest you have under the hood and behind the dash :)
I'm all tapped out yes. I only have one remaining blank switch left. But it's pretty tidy... not when it's all apart and still being work on though.
I've got the Auxbeam switch panel, RGB for 8 lights, and can confirm its just terrific!
