    This was really helpful. I am borrowing a Serge panel, while building my own. And learning about the different modules.
    Thanks for sharing, and best wishes for your continued success 😊

    I’m very proud of my new release, Modular Tonalism. I hope that you enjoy it too. It focuses on developing the pitched portion of my compositions that I have experimented with over the last 6 years or so. It gives a name to the style too! It’s available now as a download, CD or stream. Listen for free at douglynner.bandcamp.com/album/modular-tonalism

    Thanks for making this video I have learnt a lot about my positive slew. Please can you do something similar for the triple comparator and peak & trough. :)

    Is there any advantage of pos/neg slew over a DUSG, or are they pretty much superseded by it?

      Yes to both, I guess. There have been a great variety of slope generators/slewing modules developed by Serge and since the DUSG is the "latest" it is most available and often seen as the best of them. Really, they all have things special to them and I find them all useful. I have a special fondness for the early, simple rise and fall Envelope Generator with Hold and Window functionality. It was the step after the Pos/Neg Slew in the evolution to the DUSG.

      pos/neg slews have separate voltage control inputs for rise and fall times, where the dusg has only rise/fall/both options from a single cv (i think random source has a dusg with separate cv inputs, but the slews are still hardwired in series with only a single input). you also get end of rise and fall gates, and gates for the slew time in both directions. the paperface env gen also has the interesting window comparator, but no external input for slewing cv/audio. they all have their charms, and the dusg does the most in the smallest footprint. +/- slews offer the most patched together i believe, and you don't have to patch them together, giving more options in a patch

      and to quote the person who makes those great serge/cybernetic youtube videos -
      “the DUSG is obv a masterpiece, but i've really come to appreciate the pos/neg slew combos. having access to different gate outputs at different portions of the slew is super useful. and having the pos/neg separated is way more useful than i thought - you find yourself in plenty of situations where you only need one slew direction and not the other
      the DUSG is particularly great at audio rates with v/oct in and bipolar out, but that doesn't mean you can't make a perfectly nice triangle osc out of a pos/neg combo”

    Have you ever taken a detailed look at a Serge Positive Slew? It is a monster of synthesis,a master of Patch Programability and a precurser to many contemporary modules from many makers. ua-cam.com/video/dd74quAl_ao/v-deo.html

    is this a ken stone serge?

    • @DougLynner
      @DougLynner  4 роки тому +2

      No, this is an original, paperface Serge. In fact, it is the first commercial Serge, i.e., the first made by the Serge company for a customer. Even earlier versions were made by their owners before Serge started his company.
