The video barely shows the 8 light cannons (Spot Lights) that are super bright in person. In addition, there are several elements that are never even in the video because everything is just spread so far apart (e.g., the 12 Snowflakes that are one of my favorite elements barely are shown in the video). If you have a chance, come see it in person if you are in the South Texas (San Antonio/Austin) area!

We were a contestant on Season 2 of ABC's "The Great Christmas Light Fight"!
The Johnson Light Show is a Dubstep EDM Hip-hop themed Christmas light show in San Antonio, TX.
Started in 2013, our show is not your traditional light show! There are no inflatables, characters, blow molds, or other "traditional" elements. Even the music is not traditional Christmas music; it is a custom sound track composed of Dubstep, EDM, hip hop, movie clips and even our children! The result is an exciting show that feels like a dance party! Even the lights are not traditional, we use Pixels which are similar to what you would see in a stadium Jumbotron. Each pixel can be controlled individually and set to any color and intensity. This means many more effects than what can be done with Christmas lights! We hope you like our show, thanks for visiting!

Oh, and thanks to your instructional videos, this is my first year with the arches of your design. I've received positive feedback and it's great when I get to see the kids jumping around, trying to follow along to the arches lighting up.
I actually got to see this in person and my whole family loved it, especially the kiddo. (I was actually a little surprised to find this but I UA-camd it since said child really enjoyed watching it.) Super awesome!!! Keep up the awesome work!

Matt- I just started following your videos. I really like the tree in this video. Im curious is you can get that same effect on the ones you have at your house.
I'd be interested to learn more about how to program a system with the Raspberry Pi and controllers. I'm considering adding a couple arches to my yard this year and tackle the snow flakes or trees the next year and work my way up to the Matrix Wall... I could see some great uses for Halloween (maybe a large talking Jack-O-Lantern or something of that nature).

Another fine sequencing Matt, well done. Your show last year inspired me to make my first mega tree 32x50 (possibly the first in Scotland) from component level to final assembly and I'm having fun learning the ins and outs of vixen. I'm using 2 x sandevice 682's. Do you have any tips on sequencing? I'm importing some glediator builds and I'm wondering if there are other programs you use for imports or any good advice to help a novice. Just amazing. You are very talented, How hard is it to program all of this?
Honestly it is kind of a pain if you do beat-by-beat sequencing or try to replicate every sound with the visual equivalent of that sound. That is why a lot of other light shows you will see just run a single pattern or effect for like 30 seconds at a time on a given element, it still looks pretty good but I prefer the look of the stuff I do which takes much longer. By this time of year I am burned out :-/
Matt Johnson I think that dedication is what makes your light shows stand out, I'm sure most the millions of people, who have watched them agree. I'd like to say thank your for doing this, and posting it here for people like me who can't make it down to Texas to see it in person (which I would love to do)
trust me it is not easy it is actouly prettie hard
I've been doing computer lights on my house since 2006 and I only have 64 channels and the time spent sequencing beat by beat for just that is ridiculous. I've gone lazy on a few songs because of it. I have no idea how you manage to do the stuff you do and still sleep. Impressive as always!

Honestly I think I liked the 2015 show better. This is certainly impressive, but it feels more like something from Fremont Street than a super-technical home Christmas lighting display.
Cody, I understand what you are saying. This is a larger venue and it is the first year. The number of lights has actually increased by over 5 times and it looks like less than my house last year! Just the tree alone uses twice as many as my house did.
Yeah I can see that... congrats on the new place! Don't take my comment to be negative either...I am in total awe of what you've done. I've been researching doing synchronized lighting for years and your videos have been incredibly helpful. I look forward to seeing how you fill out the space in coming years.

Wow Matt, this is F*ing amazing, I used to be in the Personal Security with groups like Stones, Floyd, Prince, U@ MJ and JJ and ZZ Top and more and I was always interested in the Pyro & Lighting but this is just so talented, I would love to fly down next year and see it and speak to you in person, oh well maybe in 4 years after D Twumpp is done, maybe it will get back to normal. In the mean time , great work. Thanks for sharing.
