Hi, I think as you gradually get into F1, later you may talk about radio communication techniques of the teams, as in how they deliver info effectively, or how they manage the emotions of drivers. Give some examples of good comm vs bad comm. Ferrari may learn a thing or two from you hopefully. 😂
As for driver analysis, I’m interested in Mick Schumacher. He seems to be genuinely sweet and nice but also have a complex side. Thank you.

He's Finnish. Being blunt and in-your-face level honest is just him being Finnish. It's a cultural thing. In Finland being direct and honest is valued way much more than being polite. Kimi just turns that up a notch.

    • @formatique_arschloch
      @formatique_arschloch Рік тому +14

I'd say that for Finns being direct and honest IS a major part of being polite.

    • @vaenii5056
      @vaenii5056 Рік тому +15

@@formatique_arschloch To be fair when Finns speak Finnish, most of them are much more indirect than they think they are. It all just gets lost in translation, because the languages are so different.
Thanks to enclitics such as -han, -pa and -s, in Finnish you can start out very bluntly and then mellow it out immediately after. In English you often have to phrase the entire sentence differently in order to be polite. The most notable exception is the word "please" that can be added later on.
However, to complicate the matters further, the word "please" has found its way into Finnish as well - but instead of being polite it is something kids would say when they are begging something. Many Finns therefore have difficulties making use of it when speaking English, because their instinct is that it is kind of childish and rude word to use.

He seems to have a problem with people entering is comfort zone.
This is my space & please don't get to close too me.
I totally understand & feel the need to keep a good feel & privat space for yourself - incredibly annoying if people complain or push from behind at supermarket queue for example (at a bus stop at school). Touching & pointing gives me nightmares because of a event in my late childhood...

@@999999SkyGuy it was also not okay from the photographer to get this close. Kimi's stuff was on the ground also, and I think he was complaining about it mainly, rather than being too close to him. BTW that was also rude from the guy. If you watch e.g Martin Brundle's grid walks, he, and all the other reporters and journalists aks the driver if it's okay to say a few words. Minutes before the race start they are already being in their "full attack" zone, you need to set up your mind for that, it's just not as easy as hopping into your car, to go for shopping, it's also not equivalent to your daily comfort zone. And everyone in the paddock, who is working there as a professional must know that. So I think his reaction is quite much understandable, and I'm not trying to defend. I just wanted to highlight, that it was not an attacking attempt, he was doing it on self defense, in the heat of the moment. We have seen it many times, that if the journalists (or whoever) is showing some signs of respect, he is not acting like a dick.

When Kimi came to the sport, F1 had turned into VERY "hygienic" and corporate. Drivers were instructed very carefully what they can and can't say, how to thank sponsors and "we give 110%".. all of that crap. So, when Kimi arrived we got immediately someone who just did not give a shit about any of that. And while teams tried to curb him, control him he amassed such a popularity that no team could touch him anymore: because it was that honesty that made him the fan favorite, that honesty was selling a LOT of merch and it was easy to get sponsors... His honesty worked as a shield against bullshit and we loved every moment of it. The new "class" of younger drivers are also now more open and i think that Kimi paved a way for that, the big wigs finally understood that F1 will sell better if they do NOT try to control drivers so much.

Funny story about kimi, when he was driving for lotus he got paid an extra 50k per point he scored, the team were not expected him or the car to be that good. He ended up gaining something silly like 12million in bonus point payments but lotus didn't have 12m to pay him. To this day they still owe him 6m I believe however they stated that if they paid that to him it would bankrupt the company and it would have to close down. Kimi said okay I don't want anyone to loose their jobs so just don't pay me. May have messed the story up abit but that's the gist

Few notes: that last clip, he was being sarcastic, about the pushing other guy, because FIA (formula management) wasnt doing anything about that, so raikkonen said ''if thats legal, I will do the same'' .. Also, there are few team radios where he sounds like a guy who is hard to work with, but thats not the case (lots of people in F1 paddock have only praises for him, 0 negativity).. Kimi knows the rules and he knows what Max (driver, not reactor 😂) was doing was not allowed. It was more like: "if nobody isn't going to penalize him of doing that, why would I race him fairly either" to which his race engineer answered that he will take the matter to Charlie aka race director.
Kimi didn't really just "fell" into racing. He needed to fight his way in because he isn't from whealty family. He actually used his first big paycheck from racing to renovate his family home so that there would finally be inside toilet (!). Though you are right on the fact that he is naturally talented driver and loves racing.
In the "I spun" comment the funny part for most was not so much him not caring what happened to others but the fact that he didn't elaborate on why or how he spun as every other driver would have done.
Also he cared about Massas penalty because Massa was the guy driving in front of him. 🙂 The OK was more like "Oh, so I don't need to rage from unfair punishments? That's nice."
This was nice reaction but the clips in the original video were cut a bit too short for my taste or then it was about editing of this video. I hope it was the latter and you got to experience the clips properly. 🙂

I think a good “series” of videos you should check out is the relationship between Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel and the between Seb and Michaels son Mick.
    A slight bit of context:
Both Micheal and Seb are German racers and when Seb joined the sport, Micheal took him under his wing and basically became his on track dad. The 7x WC taught Seb everything he needed to know. Micheal retired in 2006 and Vettel would go on to win 4 back-back WC and is arguably the most professional racer on the grid!
Sadly in 2013 Micheal had a Skiing accident which resulted in him being paralysed and unable to talk. In 2019 his son Mick joined F1 and just like Micheal did to him, Vettel took Mick under his wing helped him as much as he could and again, became an on the track farther figure for Mick as well as the only real connection he has to his father in terms of asking him and talking to him about F1.
Seb is retiring at the end of this year.
(A side note, Seb is VERY vocal about the FIA (F1 governing body) and isn’t afraid to call them out when he doesn’t agree with them and I think it’s safe to say that his disagreement with them, has played apart in his decision to retire - as well as wanting to spend time with family more).

There are a number of things you need to take into account:-
1.The noise in F1 sometimes means drivers have to shout & sometimes reception quality means they can’t hear properly or they can’t be heard!
2.Every driver gets frustrated and shouts at their engineer. We are only hearing isolated snippets AND we hear more from Kimi because he is the most liked driver out there. So of course that gives an unfair comparison.
3.He is one of the greats that drove in far lesser teams toward the end of his career and he never once demanded special crews etc, so sometimes you will get people that “need to be told”. Despite what people think Kimi is driven to help push the team forward and is professional.
    4. At the speed these guys are driving and the intensity of battle - there is NO time for niceties and blunt direct communication is Best!.They all know its not personal and speak only of respect off track!.
5.Whilst Kimi speaks clear enough English we must remember it is Not his first language and sometimes things get lost in translation.
I prefer assertive honesty & bluntness, to passive- aggressive, untruthful, manipulative and scheming types in F1 of which there are many. This why Kimi is so well liked - you can see he is an honest, non-political, super talent - that doesn’t flaunt it- thats why we do it for him.
6.I would be pissed too if some idiot is sat almost directly over my clothes bag whilst Im cooling off & right in my face with a camera. Kimi turn to get stuff out of his bag and almost accidentally headbutts this cameraman because he's so close. Angry ?- I'd be tempted to punch the clown in the head. Some people are just too stupid and caught up in the hype of the sport - thats why Kimi loathed all these other aspects. There are countless acts of stupidity throughout his long career.

Apparently he actually wasn't hard to work with, well he doesn't talk much and when he's in the car, just don't disturb him. But the amount of information and feedback the engineers apparently got from him and how far ahead of thinking in race settings and so on, was quite massive according to a few interviews I've seen with his engineers.
And when he was in Lotus, he nearly bankrupted the team, since he got a fixed bonus per point he earned.

Absolutely need to do this for Daniel Ricciardo! Also would be awesome for you to compare what you saw of Max in the previous video compared to Max when he is with his current teammate, Checo Perez or his old teammate, Daniel Ricciardo. Both of which show you a very different side to Max!

Kimi is straight to the point and doesn't give a shit. As you said, he's there to drive and nothing else. He isn't there for the fame or the glory that comes with being an F1 drivers. In this way, I feel that him and Max Verstappen are quite similar. They don't care what anybody thinks of them. They just want to drive and be left alone. I love them for that

Great video..... think the hole F1 is missing him since he's not F1 anymore this season. Not many people don't like him as fans... not sure about the people needing to work with him, that might be different. But did never hear somebody saying something negative about him being this way. Think we all love him for it. The closest to him will be Alonso... might be great to see him next... more fire in him for sure but also not caring what others think about him attitude.

Well, I guess you are right that some people might be offended on Kimis behaviour. He can be rude if people are rude to him first. What I have understood though is that if you are his friend once (and don't break his trust) you will be one forever. Also I have understood that he has very good relations on all of the teams he has raced for. He speaks nicely even from people in Lotus (/Alpine), even if it ended with team owning money to him to this day.
Alonso is famous of burning the bridges when he leaves from the team. Though he has gone back to some of his old teams and mended relationships too.

This is very classic Finnish behavior. You're not supposed to make a big deal of yourself or of your possessions/successes etc(other Nordic people know this as "Law of Jante" or "Jenteloven"). Finnish people also pride themselves on being super honest and straight forward and they absolutely loathe all kinds of small-talk.

Will give you very honest great feedback on his car setups and the situations he's in during the driving sessions. Also is quite jokey with his mechanics or engineers plus he's one of the few drivers who literally hates radio chatter. As his other former race engineer Mark Slade famously said "he's always been like that on the radio except back then they weren't on broadcast."
