    What I loved about the whole Ashlee Simpson era of music was that with each release the music got better and more interesting. I love that she was also willing to experiment and switch things up each and every time. It’s a shame she doesn’t continue releasing music because she’s clearly hella talented

    I was 13 when Pieces of Me came out. At the time here in Brazil I only got access to American pop music through a cable channel called MTV Hits, and it only played music videos, there was no gossip and no drama, so I didn’t even heard about the SNL incident, which was such a big scandal and hurt her career. But to me as a kid with no access to that, Ashlee was one of my favorite artists. And when her second era came out with the Boyfriend video, it was such a banger. When she released her third album it sounded so weird and different, but today I appreciate it so much for how bold and unique it was for her to release it at the time. I love Ashlee.

    Ashlee blaming her band on SNL when the lip sync came on unexpectedly is a big 👎 I remember watching that live and just made the situation more disappointing blaming the band for HER lip syncing!

    Love all your videos!! I was a huge fan of her first 2 albums. Looking back, Invisible was by far, her best song, video and look. Such a shame it never seemed to hit here in the UK. I only even know it because it was on the Bratz soundtrack lol

    I loved Ashlee toward her 3rd album and Melrose Place. I remember girls dressed like her at my school

    It’s so interesting to see such in depth documentation of the music industry turning someone into a star. I really loved Ashlee when she came out at first and it’s crazy to think how young she was when she went through all that pressure and the SNL incident poor thing. It’s also wild to see her transformation from the first to the second album. She lost that joyous spark, lost so much weight, changed her face, and not even 21? Ugh so sad.

      She’s what I call a studio artist. I like her and was a huge fan when I was younger but I’ve never heard a good live performance from her. I will say she did sound and look really good in her recent performance at the autobiography anniversary party.

    Outta my head was one of my favorite tracks when I was younger . Still an underrated amazing song. Very Gwen Stefani like (the cool Gwen, not the Country wife one)

    Kara Dioguardi and John Shanks are amazing. No shade to Ashlee, but they made her career.

      You're right. Without them she wouldn't have anything written on paper. She would show up to the studio tell them what kind of song she was looking for and they would work it out.

    • @DavidKen878
      @DavidKen878 4 місяці тому

      @@baylorsailor I believe that 100%. When John and Kara would show her what they came up with, she strikes me as the type who would go "What if I said this instead?" and proceed to tell everyone she wrote it. You can always tell when a singer doesn't actually write their own stuff because when asked when the song is about, they'll say something vapid like "Its about going out with your girls and having fun!" 😂

    I remember controversy around Ashlee's change in appearance [weight loss, nose job etc] as it was considered inauthentic. Surprised this wasn't mentioned.

      Yeah I feel changing her look was a pivotal moment for Ashlee. People didn't recognize her anymore and it definitely affected her music because of that.

    She used to be so cool in her 1st and 2nd album era. When she grew up, she is getting more and more cringe and become the rich girl she used to hate

    Never was a fan of her music, and I was surprised that out of all the videos on this channel she has one of the longest. I think the reason why I wasn't a fan is because her target audience was younger than me. Although Ashlee and I were born the same year. And I also felt like she copied a lot of elements from other artists of the time. Instead of have her own vibe. Of course younger kids wouldn't notice that.
