A sequel needs to expand on the world of the first movie. It needs to improve the characters, make them learn a new lesson, introduce a new interesting characters, expand the setting, show new beautiful locations, improve the technology, and not focus on the merchandise. That is not what Cars 2 did though. :(
In defense of boss baby 2... They removed the part with 'boomer' in the actual movie, if you bothered to watch it you'd actually find it quite fun! Plus, they actually listened to the people, which a lot of companies don't bother to. It was sweet, kinda weird, but I really enjoyed it. Sure it wasn't great but I don't think it's as bad as people see it.
I wonder if the boomer part is left in the extras section of the menu? I always find it interesting to see all the extra clips that didn't quite make it, like steve irwin's part in Happy Feet.

*Anyone remember that Captain Underpants Tv series that worked as a sequel ? I remember that it was extremely absurd in a good way, there where like 4 second sketches of talking puppets, fake commercials, etc...*
The one sequel ISTG no one talks about is the Lion King 2. Like I understand that the music isn't as good, except for My Lullaby, but the movie started just like the first one ended/started. THE ANIMATION WAS SOOOOO GOOD, then theres that one lion, Nuka?, who is just like hyenas, mostly Ed. But I think that Disney junior should have not made The Lion Guard, they introduce Simba's son???, Kion, who wasn't even in The Lion King 2. Like I get it that the Lion King 2 mostly follows Simba's daughter, Kiara, while the Lion Guard follows Kion but still I think they should have some plot points, which I think they did, in the series. But even the Lion Guard they have the hyenas, that bring that comedic relief, just like in the first movie. I also disagree with you about Cars 2. I REALLY enjoyed Cars 2 when it first came out, and I thought that it was better than Cars 3. Anyways thats it I enjoyed the video.
My lullaby is a great song, if a bit short. My only issue with it is the interruptions of several characters. I do think He lives in you is somewhat better though.
10:04 While I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, it WAS really good and more importantly... FAR FAR BETTER than the first film. Of course as a U2 fan, Bono...kind of carried the film for me. Not gonna lie I LOVED his performance and for once they used several U2 songs including the one in the trailer "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" and in Act 1 they threw in "Where the Streets have no name" and... Did I mention Bono wrote an ORIGINAL SONG "Your Song Saved My Life" and YES, it IS disconnected from the film... despite being on the soundtrack and made for the film's credits... It's Bono at his best! The CRAZY thing is Bono probably CONNECTED WITH THE LION CHARACTER not because he lost his wife...BUT HIS VOICE! Only recently did HE return to touring after he literally lost his voice and was...FORBIDDEN FROM SINGING. Then COVID delayed the tour...
Sequels to animated movies can be a 50/50 split. It can be good or it can be rio 2 that destroys the very concept of their characters in the Rio movie.
"everything is awesome" holy hell i will never get that out of my head and the song that they put in the lego movie two? "this song is gonna get stuck in your head" jesus that is imprinted in my brain
It says a lot that so much of the merchandise for Cars 2 wasn't focused on Mater at all, it pretty much all played up the rivalry between Lightning and Francesco, because that's the thing kids wanted to see.
8:50 I’m sorry, nothing?! In case you’ve guessed, I’m among the portion of people who love this movie! And you say it has nothing?! It sends good morals about how you shouldn’t listen to other’s views on you and just be yourself, as well as how it isn’t worth it to lose your best friend. The action in it is undoubtably outstanding, and it still does give attention to Lightning by showing how precious he and Mater’s friendship is. The antagonists’ motivations definitely made sense: the lemons were neglected, and everybody made fun of them, and who better for a main antagonist than a literal businessman. He set up Allinol to make alternative fuel look bad, forcing everyone to buy all gasoline products possible, making him and all the lemons rich. Not only that, but the soundtrack is nothing short of fantastic, the characters also made sense. Everyone always says Finn and Holley (the spies) were stupid to think of Mater as a spy, even though it was obvious he wasn’t. While it was obvious to the audience and anyone else who knows Mater very well, Finn and Holley didn’t, and simply thought that he was playing a cover so his true identity wasn’t obvious. Also, Cars 2 is practically canon to the trilogy, with how Mater comes to all of Lightning’s races in the third movie, just as he promised previously. To sum it up, Cars 2 is a super overhated movie and is very under-appreciated.
Yesssss!! Personally, I grew to love cars 2, but only after cars 3 came out, because before that I thought it was such a drastic change from the original one that, although very fun, it kinda ""ruined the legacy"" of the first one, and what made it special, in a way. Plus I didn't think at the time that the franchise was ever gonna get a real, satisfying conclusion so it made me kinda hopeless that that would ever happen. I thought by then (which in hindsight doesn't make a lot of sense) that it was it was gonna become like an illumination franchise and get more and more weird and nonsensical as it went on, losing the charm of the original. But after cars 3 came out and was one of the most satisfying conclusions to a franchise I've ever seen that, it made me love cars 2 so much more for being this wacky and fun "episode" in the franchise that has just such a hilarious and weird premise, but is executed so well, with so many awesome new characters and weirdly high stakes for a movie about cars lol (I remember being at the edge of my seat watching it for the first time) and somehow everything actually makes canonical sense?!? Idk, for me it's like a break from the big emotional moments from the first and 3rd movie. It's like the really fun filling for this beautiful, emotionally intelligent sandwich of a franchise LOLLLL
Finally someone said it. Also its just a mental movie, like the fact that a big part of spy movies have always been cars so they Finally just made it an entire film is hilarious
Toy story 4 has to be one of my favorite sequals! The visuals and animation got so much better, it gave a conclusion, and it gave answers to previous story lines left out in the open that weren’t finished! The plot really had me drawn in, forky was great, and the ending made me all emotional. My boyfriend who previously only liked the first seriously enjoyed the 4th, forky became his new favorite, and I rarely see him cry but he almost did during the ending..he loved that movie. It’s also one of my favorite for that exact reason; I got to seriously enjoy it with my boyfriend and crack jokes for months after such as saying forky lines occasionally.
I watched the LEGO movie 2 with my family and I said “I really like this movie, almost more than the original, don’t know why” and my mom, and I quote, “yeah it’s probably because of the sister” and I was like… she’s not even a part of the movie I’m a frickin’ musical theater nerd it’s obviously because there’s more than one song (most are very good) in the soundtrack!
my top 10 favorite animated sequels: 1. Toy Story 2 2. Shrek 2 3. How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 3 4. Sing 2 5. Ice Age 3 6. Cars 3 7. Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3 8. Croods 2 9. Space Jam 2 10. Madagascar 2
To be completely honest, I'm not wild about any of the "sequels to come out years later" that Pixar's been doing. I know a lot of people like them but Finding Dory, Monsters University, The Incredibles 2, and Toy Story 4 all felt very unnecessary to me. I couldn't shake the feeling of "This was made with the intent of being a cash grab." Quite odd when you consider that Disney originally wanted to do direct-to-DVD sequels to the Pixar films but Pixar said no because they wanted to create quality films and not forced sequels. I know the films I listed all got positive reviews but none of them ever felt needed to me, to the point where honestly, sometimes I forget they exist.
To be fair I think every sequel to a movie, even if it feels important for the story, is a cash-grab in some way. Even if the The main goal of these big studios is always gonna be making money. The reason that Pixar sequels stand out to me, is because even though the people in charge only greenlit these projects to make more money, there are thousands of incredible artists working so hard to create a great and satisfying addition to the series. Even if toy story 4 for example, was only made with the intention of cashing in on a very popular franchise, and didn't have to exist in the first place, but that doesn't change the fact that the people involved put their heart and soul and so much effort into making this beautiful conclusion to the franchise that feels completely warranted because of how good it is. So I think it's unfair to judge a movie based on the decision of the people in charge, cause these people are always gonna put money first, and the artists involved can't do anything about that.
What sucks is how disney is treating Pixar like crap for their original stuff, I’m excited for the new buzz light year movie but it’s weird how they’re dumping all the Pixar stuff in Disney plus but not the Disney animated films.
I kinda agree with you on this Monsters University was complete nonsense a very boring sequel Finding dory was like it had a nice idea that dory is forgettable she forgot her own family and i think it was fine not as good as finding Nemo but fine. The original would have been fine without it but hasn't been much affected by it either so it's a ok movie. The incredibles 2 was something that should have happened, like I personally wanted a sequel with jack Jack shenanigans but what we got wasn't bad but quite underwhelming I think it couldve been handled better Toy story 4 was good like it was pure good but i didn't feel we needed another one like yeah it got more emotional by making woody actually part with his friends and the whole bo peep reunion it was still a nice addition to the franchise
IMO: Trolls 2 was a good movie that brought all types of music together with debate and wars started from the Rock trolls during Quarwentine i watched it 4 times in April when it came out.
If i had to say what the worse sequel i've ever seen,i say Rio 2,that one was so awful it actually traumatized me for almost a decade, just playing a small audio of that movie can give me tons of ptsd of just how badly they treated everyone from the firts movie but my favorite sequel i'd say its finding dory, i adored everything about that movie, and i mean everything

Actually, I know it sounds funny, but I was on emirates, and I ended up watching the boss baby sequel. Dreamworks learned from their mistakes because that scene was out of the movie. It was actually better than the original.

@@nyancat.123 The only reason why I like 6 better than 5 is because 4 and 5's story was ridiculous. 6 was far more simple, which was a nice change of pace, but I admit it still sucks.
Ikr. I really like the first three (The one with the baby, Meltdown, and Dawn of the Dinosaurs) but Continental Drift (4), and Collision Course (5) aren’t that good. I haven’t seen the new one, but now I kind of want too, just to make fun of it.

I honestly REALLY liked The Lego Movie 2. Maybe it's because I loved the first one and heard that a sequel was coming a few months after it came out, and so I waited FIVE years for it to come out, and was in awe the whole time I was watching. So I might be blinded by the fact I was waiting and loved the first one. I still loved it to this day though.
Since discovering your channel with that Hotel Transylvania 4 review you did, I have to say your videos are very well made. I like the pacing of this one and enjoyed the fact that it wasn't made to be like an hour long deep detailed diving analysis that a lot of people seem to prefer doing maybe in hopes of gaining more watch time
haha thanks im glad you like them! i like keeping my videos short and sweet :) and i mostly care for starting a conversation than making a huge 1 hour analysis
Hotel transylvania 4 was not entertaining at all. I see why it was an Amazon prime movie but this guy here is cool I like the way he explains things in his videos.

I thought it was an ok movie, but not bad, just forgettable

“Everything is awesome” is literally burned in my skull.
2:00 that’s my fav sequel also And I also Adore the Lego movie 2
Miranda sings being valid did not age well two years later.

I’m sorry, nothing?!
Good words Edward, good words

To be completely honest, I'm not wild about any of the "sequels to come out years later" that Pixar's been doing. I know a lot of people like them but Finding Dory, Monsters University, The Incredibles 2, and Toy Story 4 all felt very unnecessary to me. I couldn't shake the feeling of "This was made with the intent of being a cash grab."
Quite odd when you consider that Disney originally wanted to do direct-to-DVD sequels to the Pixar films but Pixar said no because they wanted to create quality films and not forced sequels. I know the films I listed all got positive reviews but none of them ever felt needed to me, to the point where honestly, sometimes I forget they exist.
I would like too point out Monsters University is a prequel
I kinda agree with you on this
Monsters University was complete nonsense a very boring sequel
Finding dory was like it had a nice idea that dory is forgettable she forgot her own family and i think it was fine not as good as finding Nemo but fine. The original would have been fine without it but hasn't been much affected by it either so it's a ok movie.
The incredibles 2 was something that should have happened, like I personally wanted a sequel with jack Jack shenanigans but what we got wasn't bad but quite underwhelming I think it couldve been handled better
Toy story 4 was good like it was pure good but i didn't feel we needed another one like yeah it got more emotional by making woody actually part with his friends and the whole bo peep reunion it was still a nice addition to the franchise
I like monster university for going into Mike and Sulley's past a bit more. It also set things up well for the eventual sequel mini series.
