My dad bought this car while he was minding the Fulda Gap. Delivered just before he shipped off to Vietnam. Now I have his 1970 280 SL. And I very much appreciate this instruction.
Excellent vid. Note at 1:16 how they pull the entire soft top frame out of the well. The right hand is supporting the frame so that it comes up as a complete unit. If the rear part of the frame stays behind in the well and the front part of the frame come out, it is possible to jam the soft top in the half up/down position. I have fixed several of these errors by owners. The fix is to unscrew one of the pivot bolts holding the frame together. The bolts are staked into position and not easy to remove. The reverse is true for collapsing the soft top.
Great video. Currently replacing my soft top seals. For me, the soft top always rubs against the left and right sides of the seals when storing in the soft top compartment and wears them out there. Great idea to protect the weatherstripping with that flexible plastic. To protect the rear soft top window from rubbing against itself causing scratches or creases, try putting in a towel that runs the length of the window. It really helps.

If I had a pagoda I would never take the hardtop off, I think they look beyond beautiful hardtop on.
Most people never put the hardtop on actually
100% agree
Mine hasn't been on in 30 years, before that, when my father owned it, it rarely came off.

What, are these two guys some kind of two Schwarzenegger?
It looks so easy when they remove the hardtop, but it's a bloody heaaaaaavy rascal!!!
На это можно смотреть бесконечно.......
Сложно как-то и ненадёжно выглядит, особенно с прозрачными клееночками.
Вася Пупкин тогда делали качественно.
Mercedes don’t make cars like this no more.
Long time ago
Right the r129 was the last old school sl
Great video Brabus!
I need a Pagoda first
Na me. 😂

Best cars from mercedes always...👍😍

Why to get out a roof to put another roof?
They sure don’t build them like that anymore . Unfortunately 😔

I actually hate the hardtop. Convertible is how this car should always be
What if you live in england (rainy weather here) or you just like music full volume?
I think the hardtop takes it from sexy to dapper. It certainly insulates better for the winter months. Otherwise I agree. Soft top only lol.
