How exactly is this “clean” or “green” compared to regular surfing, which requires no fossil fuels or harmful chemicals like those in lithium ion batteries?
The same sentiment goes for electric cars. Ever seen a cobalt Mine and human abuses of the children that work those mines just so some Elitists can feeeeeel good about themselves. How about the factories that make batteries for cars, not mention the toxicity of the batteries themselves. There is no such thing as clean energy.
Wonder world, i've been thinking about your responce that's uncalled for:thank you.....I was debating wich kind of board would suit what I'm looking for and your responxe certainly helped steer me in the direction I think I'll look more into, so thanks for that educational "chat"! C ya
Oh I love this electric hydrofoil surfboard! Friend of mine showed me this before and she got it for 8.5k! I wonder if this thing can out run the sharks... :) I'm gonna get this thing soon too! Do you like surfing Wonder World?
I have only ever boogy board surfed before, so no I am not a surfer, but I would not exactly say you need to be a surfer to use this board. But I would love to have one.
Fun Fact: I was diving in a marine preserve in Hawaii when one of these came into the area. The sound of the electric motor nearly burst my ear drum. Sure they're quiet on the surface, but these things are a major noise nuisance underwater - Like a robot alien is yelling in your ear. I can only imagine what it's like for the reef, dolphins, whales, etc. They look like fun, but need a lot more work before these things are ready for marine areas.
Excellent video, thanks. This is the start of a major step change I think. - As soon as I saw foil boats, I wondered if they'd revolutionize all sea and river travel - eliminating most of the drag of the water. - Tourist boats, tourist recreational fun craft, fishing boats, military boats where speed is a competitive advantage. - Covered-in it will be 'boat cars' and 'boat trucks' joyfully ignoring the traffic clogging of ferries and bridges across the Cook Strait, Auckland/Sydney Harbour, Golden Gate Bridge even in rough weather. - I wonder if even the huge oil tankers and ocean liners will evolve soon to this, saving fuel, speeding trips, reducing accidents. - 'Seems so obvious once you see it. 'Comparatively so dumb to plough the whole boat body through water. About the same as the invention of the wheel.
ocean going vessels of hundreds of tons will work much more efficiently at low non-planing speeds. in addition, a hydrofoil would be far too dangerous in big seas. dangerous for cargo and crew alike. these little boards are light enough to go over some gentle swell with long durations, but i suspect in anything over 3' chop they'd throw you off. scale that up to a huge vessel in 20' breaking waves, and you have a disaster in the making.
@@ct1762 Imagine for a container ship - large scale - engineering dozens of strong foils positioned to operate well below any size of surface waves, as outriggers and under-hull. - The ship leaves port floating, but then speed is increased until the entire hull is supported above whatever waves present. Some impact with waves could be coped with anyway by adjusting the foils. That and any kind of storm wind pressure would be real-time managed using computerized adjustment of the many foils. - The questions in my mind are... The physics of strength of the foils and their attachments to the ship (a matter of design), stress-balance loading of the ship not supported by water (the foil structures could actually provide such extra strength as part of the design), the relative cost of building the foils and controls (I'd guess it'd pay itself off and become cheaper than conventional fuel costs at present,
Les Todd finished the weekend Annual Christmas Bird count at Lake Atitlan with his bird watching group today, where they go all around different spots at Lake Atitlan, and Les saw someone riding the new $5,000 to $14,000 USD "Electric Hydrofoil Surfboard" flying across the lake! I would LOVE to be on one if I couldn't manage a real surfboard with real ocean waves. What fun this would be! Here's a video on UA-cam: what will they think of next?
One of the things I regret is I never learnt to swim. Having seen this I really want to learn as I would love to use one of these :-) How cool is that!
learning to swim is like learning to ride a bike, once you have learnt how to do it just once you will never forget. Swimming is really not hard, it's less about swimming and more about floating with style.
@@WonderWorldYTC Thanks for the encouraging comment :-) Exactly what my wife says! However it's the fear of the water and not breathing that scares me most.
@@JuganautTimelapse I have been swimming since I was very young, so i don't really know those fears, for me it would be all about how to move your arms & legs in coordination to swim. The only way to get over this fear of not being able to breathe is to get under the water, either in a bath or a small pool, and develop your ability to hold your breathe and move under water. You don't need to hold your breathe like some olympic freediver, 30-45 seconds would be good, but start with 10-20 seconds. Simply hold your nose closed, close your eyes, go under water and count to 10, then 15, then 20 and get used to it. human bodies naturally float in water so swimming is mostly about moving in water, not staying above it.
@@WonderWorldYTC Thank you again for your advice and support! I REALLY want to learn now and my wife says she will book me lessons this summer. I will do it!!
@@JuganautTimelapse simply hop in any body of water above your waste, take a deep breathe, hold it and lay down, and you will float, pay attention to bending your neck to keep your head up at an angle above the water line. else you will simply lay flat like on a bed without pillows, your mouth will still be above water, but your ears be below water and it feels weird. when you can push off and lunge forward from a standing position in waste high water, and then flip over to your back and just glide along on your back while floating, you have mastered the basic of being in water. the kicking and flailing of arms to move forward comes next.
Just watching a Webcam from Beaufort, NC and saw what had to be an eFoil. Having not seen one of these before, I couldn't put all the pieces together. It was one person, standing up, with no visible sign of a vehicle beneath (smaller than any jet ski or kayak I've seen), and moving incredibly fast... incredibly fast. I googled for single user hydrofoil and got close enough to the answer. Why would you ever want a Jet Ski? Electric.

i live in lower Brooklyn, right at the bottom of coney island. from my home i can see the WTC, which is 2 blocks away from work. if i can just go over this body of water i can save time & money i spend everyday using transit, & save a headache or two from all the flaws public transit comes with. but with a hefty 12K, i'd be better off with a car & enough left over for several full tanks of gas i was thinking about paragliding. theres a beach a block from my home, i can take off from. but im sure those things are expensive too
I noticed that not once did they show the board and rider at rest on the water's surface, then accelerating away to an elevated position above the water. I'm sceptical this device works as advertised.
At least it's ONLY $12,000.00. *phew* For a minute, I was worried that you would have to be part of the elite to afford one! 😅 Joking aside; these are really cool.
Like a lot of things I am glad that few people can afford them, as the diving guy said, very loud underwater, which can't be good for marine life and the waterways. I would hire one for an hour and that would probably last me a few years of story telling.
