I am a below the knee amputee, and use my lift chair and love it. Since I have stairs to go up in my house,I use my lift recliner as my bed also. This is good for my sleep apnea,as I don't snore as much
Thank you for this video! I’m in the process of buying a recliner like this for my husband and I started off in total confusion regarding lift chairs. I have watched many videos and now feel more educated and think we’re ready to purchase one. Buying a good quality lift chair is a large investment and you don’t want to mess up on it!😁
I was a lift chair repair tech for 13 years and I saw first hand on how these chairs where a Godsent for many people. She is right on how comfy they are so much so I bought one for myself. Fantastic for watching tv or just relaxing after a days work. It also came in handy for those times I strained a back muscle lifting or working on them.
I need one for recovery after shoulder surgery. But I’m worried that my cats might be attracted to the dark space beneath it. Is there any way to keep them out? A design that would prevent them from getting underneath? Thanks!
My late father could have used this. He passed at 97 in December 2022. My mom, 92, is moving into a senior housing facility where the rooms are unfurnished. This video helps a ton. Thank you!
OT here - you helped me so much this week x 2 by providing easy recliner education for client and CGs - and the other piece was those booster pads!! Amazing. Happy OT month, you’re fantastic ❤
Thank You for your info! I guess, I will not sleep in mine anymore. Your video(s) are very helpful to me! I have been to several different PT/OPs and the info you share, I have not been advised. All of your directions make good sense to me having been there and done that.
This kind of chair is great if you're recovering from broken ribs. Idk how I would have coped without it. After about a month of living 24/7 in the chair, I could get up myself and sleep in a normal bed again, so renting it was ideal. Luckily it was a brand new one, which was lovely. Possibly because people can do rent-to-purchase and so the rental place kept getting new ones! Great video, thanks.
Agreed same thing with me but I just got chest surgery and couldn’t have any pressure on my arms . I never thought about renting one I ended up paying a thousand for this. But atleast I will have this for a while
Great info! I did not know about the Trendelenburg position. We're buying two chairs and my partner has been advised to find time to have her lower legs raised in the the position that your talking about AND I am literally looking at chairs to buy for my partner but so far I found only a few go back to full horizontal position but you have given the technical name for the action I'm looking for I hope to find the correct product. I'm going to get one 'cause I just anything I can get a great snooze on : ) many thanks from Stevie in Glasgow, Scotland.
I have a shattered left knee,My recliner is a blessing! It makes getting up To a standing position possible, If I didn’t have it I wouldn’t be able to sit in my living room and watch TV! I cannot get up in a regular chair!
Hi I'm Diana. Recently I purchased a recliner for the first time. It has tipped forward twice already where I have fallen out of it and unable to get myself off the floor. A professional will be coming to check the recliner out. Your suggestion is important. Thanks
Excellent video. I'm a retired nurse with OPMD and I am experiencing extreme muscle weakness. I'm considering purchasing a "lift chair" and doing some research. My condition is progressive and I will not regain muscle strength/tone. I'm using a standard recliner now but having difficulty getting up. Looks like this may be a good solution for me.
I think it is wise to have a power assist chair to support your needs as the arise. It can be a huge help to know the support is there when you need it! Best wishes.
I use my leg raise & recline feature daily but the up feature I use less often as I prefer to keep my mobility as often as I can even though I use a wheelchair.
Sarah I do the same as you. I got my lift chair for before and during my knee replacements. Once I could get up on my own I only use raise and recline. Just had hip replacement so it been nice with that as well.
I usually sleep in my bed for a few hours then end up in my recliner the other half of the night. Neck issues usually prevent me from sleeping in the bed all night. Can you do a video on various pillows? I’ve spent $100’s to find one that works. It’s always trial and error.
My 90 yr old client sleeps in her lift recliner a lot. She has accidentally pressed the button on her lift chair to stand her up when she is asleep. She has slid out of her chair onto the floor several times! What do you suggest that can be used to keep her safer? I am not with her at bedtime to insure she gets into bed.
Are these safe after hip surgery. I will not have a care giver and am trying to be as independent as possible. Also do you recommend a pillow or small wedge under my knees after hip surgery if using this chair?
I have a question. I have MS and total knee and one hip replacement. I still fundction independently, but am now getting a shoulder replacement on the dominant side. I am going to purchase a lift chair to help recovery after surgery. A straight lift chair was mentioned. Is that easier to use than a tilt mechanism?Would it be easier to get out of one of these chairs with a straight lift mechanism?
My 93 yo Dad is independent living with only mild falls risk. He loves his rocking recliner but I've noticed the rocking makes standing up difficult for him. He doesn't need the lift or the remote controlled recline, but he needs a rocking swivel chair that he can lock in position for safer standing. What should we be looking for?
We have often used block stops (built out of lumber) to slide under the front of the chair to stop the rocking motion during sit to stand. I haven’t found a chair that has a locking mechanism built in, yet 🤔
I need to have rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders (not at the same time). I will be on my own and will probably have to sleep in one for a few weeks after surgery. Which one do you recommend? Will my doctor need to prescribe it so insurance will help pay for at least part of it. I'm 65 and have no one to help me after surgery. I sent a message to doctor office and he said I will have to figure out how to have someone help me for at least 2 weeks after surgery. I don't have anyone!! I don't know what to do! I also have on SSI and it's not a lot for all the things I will need to help me. I don't even know what to do about eating, getting meals, etc.
@equipMeOT can you elaborate on how to prevent back issues from sleeping in a recliner every night for 3 years, or how to make it better if i have no other option to sleep, would lumbar support in the recliner help? any specific stretches?
The big thing is to make sure you maintain spinal flexibility as much as possible. Typically the spine rounds/flattens significantly when sleeping in a recliner, so making sure you prioritize improvements to the lumbar and cervical curvatures is a great place to start.
Exercises are super specific to the person and their existing conditions that might be leading to the weakness. It’s important to consult with a therapist familiar with you or your loved one to setup a program!
I really do need that chair that helps you raise your legs above your heart. there's no way I can afford $2,000 for a chair on disability. do you have any recommendations for chairs that have massage and heat therapy in them. I have heard some pretty bad horror stories with Amazon. and I don't order anything from eBay anymore. eBay for the most part is turned into a scam. I won't hold my breath without you answering my question, anytime soon cuz it doesn't look like you're doing it with other people.
@rajnbull, I don't know if you will see the message or not, but have you heard about the Flexispot reclining chairs? I just watched several videos on them and they are highly recommended.
Hello, I have a bobs power ranger lift recliner chair that’s missing a remote control. Is there anyway you can assist me with finding out where I can get a replacement remote? Thank you.
My mom wants a lift chair. I'm concerned because of what you said her possible inability to get up in other locations. She says she'll stand more if she gets help standing up. So I don't know.
I have been looking for a power assist recliner for a while now, but cannot find one to fit my needs. The leg portion needs to go up like the one you used in this video, but I need to also be sitting upright and it needs to have a higher weight limit. Most I find tend to have a 350 limit and I need one that is at least 500, and it also needs to be wider than a normal recliner. Does anyone now if such a recliner exists?
Check out Golden lift chairs. They have a dual lifting motor chair with a lifting weight capacity of 500 LBS . They also have a very heavy duty one that can lift 700 LBS
@@joewigginsfortynine Thanks for the tip, but from what I've found they only have 1 chair that goes to 700 pounds and the footrest does not elevate high enough. I need one that elevates up so that if I were to lay flat in the chair, my feet can go above my heart. It seems like the chairs with the higher weight limit do not do this, which is crazy considering they cost over $3000.
What do you recommend for someone with inclusion body myositis, which is untreatable, incurable and progressive, and results in motor muscle loss throughout the body: legs, knees, hips, arms, wrists, fingers, neck, back, chest. For my wife, getting out of bed is very risky even with a bariatric bed, because I can't always be there to help her. So she wants to look into a chair for sleeping. One person with IBM has recommended a straight lift option. Is that important, and if it is, why? Thanks!
The lift chair was invaluable when I shattered my right elbow. I was able to maintain my no lifting and no more than 1/2 ounce lifting restrictions and position myself comfortably for sleeping until I could return to my bed.
My mother is 88 with chronic lymphoedema, osteoporosis, hip replacement on both hips and spinal fusion surgery so she can't get into a bed. She's actually too short as she's shrunk over the years and needs the assist chair lift recliner for both sitting and sleeping.

The construction was very simple ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxXH3jIpsn6vpr3D26KWAriUejh7CSxVp7 , the bottom rocking part and the ottoman were already put together for us which is nice!As for the actual quality, the wood seems fine.. Not too cheap but maybe not the quality you would find in a store for 400$. However, it is still sturdy and feels secure. I've only had it for one night, so of course no squeaking yet.. But if it does squeak it could be easily oiled. The cushions are comfy, and made of a suede like material. Obviously with time these cushions will probably wear and tear.. But for the price of the chair it is still worth it just to go out and buy new cushions that fit in the future.Overall I am very satisfied, I was a little worried after reading some reviews and looking through the photos, but I'm happy I bought it! Obviously it's not a heavy-duty chair, but with care I'm hoping it will last a while.
