    I own a 2015 Mirage DE 5-speed. 31,000 trouble free miles. It won't win a drag race, it's not a Lexus, but it can easily beat the EPA ratings if driven properly. The Mirage is inexpensive, efficient, reliable transportation. It's not an enthusiast's car but it's a great commuter car. Every car has a purpose, the Mirage fits the bill for those who want a reliable vehicle for a low price point. Read the reviews of owners versus the media, owners speak nothing but praise for the Mirage. Journalists trash it because they're comparing it to a Lexus or a BMW. For $13k, it's a damn good deal for a great basic little car with a kick ass warranty.

      +TuAnh Duong Yep I wanted a car that was loaded, small in size, great on gas, long warrnaty, and cheap to buy and run! It was a no brainer for me on the Murage! I wanted mine loaded with Nav, Parking Sensors, Push To Start, Power Everything, Keyless Access, Chrome Package, Exterior Package and so on. Love it and got a great deal!

      I have 44,000 miles on my 2015 Mirage ES 5-speed. All it has needed is a set of tires, a set of front brake pads, and oil changes. My girlfriend has a '14 Mirage DE 5-speed, and over 42,000 miles she has only needed the same.
      I'd say I have averaged about 48 mpg over those 44k miles.
      I know three other people who have bought these cars (a '15 DE CVT, a '15 DE manual, and a '17 ES CVT), and they are all just as happy with them as we are.
      Problems with these cars are VERY few and far between. There is a reason the Mirage has such a great warranty...Mitsubishi knows you WON'T NEED IT! It's easy to warranty a car that simply doesn't break!

      The Mirage is definitively at home driving in the city. It's small and nimble. Has a tight turning radius. Soft suspension does a decent job with rough pavement. Out on the highway, it feels out of its element though. It can cruise at interstate speeds, but it feels loud, engine strained, and poor handling.

    As a previous owner of a +400 hp beast. Undoubtedly, the Mirage is a great buy:
    1. 10 Yr warranty
    2. 40 mpg,
    3. Even with its size, it is safer than most used car.
    4. Good reliability.
    5. Latest phone integration (so GPS, bluetooth)
    6. Rearview camera (for inexperience drivers)
    7. Not to mention that you can get it with extremely good discounts and 0% interest rate.
    We have a winner. Not for an enthusiast but once again, that is not the target market.

      Ivan Pineda Very well put and list all the benefits for a person who is looking at this car. People who bash these so much do not understand this kind of car. I love mine and both my Mirages have been great cars with no issues just as with our Outlander Sport. Mitsubishi has really impressed us over the years with how reliable ours, our families and friends Mitsubishis have been, no issues with any!

    I own 2017 mirage and love it. Averaging 44 mpg actually got 61 mpg on a 200 mile trip. Just the sight of this car angers some people. It’s not for everyone but it’s the “geo metro” of today and some will be fine with that.

    Thanks for this review Dave!. I own a 2015 Mirage ES with Navigation and it took me a few weeks to get used to the 74 horsepower (2017 they updated to 78 horsepower) but once I got used to the power I am able to judge it no problem now.
    You really touched on the positives and the negatives and I give you props for that. Most reviewers only bash the Mirage and are set on the negatives. It gets great fuel economy, lots of features and a great price and thank you for touching on them all!!!
    Keep it up Dave your reviews are awsome!!!

      Glad you like the car. I'd like to get one of these with a manual transmission. I drove one a little over a year ago, I thought with the stick it felt like a 4 cylinder. I'd like to know how the suspension changes compare to last year's model.

      azera55555 Yea their sales are really improving yesr after year! They will be releasing an all new Outlander Sport for 2018 and soon after a new Outlander!Then they will be bringing the Large Montero SUV back. The Lancer will be discontinued after the 2017 model year and their only cars will be the Mirage and Mirage G4 and then they will have SUVs for their line up. From what Mitsubishi says over the next 4 years they will be releasing redesigned and new models for their line up.

      Dan Cowan I will partly agree with that but I myself and 3 others (2 I work with and 1 neighbor) bought the Mirage over the Spark and Versa because we liked the car itself more and the features it had. Yes I know the Spark is more refined than the Mirage of course but there is just something about the Mirage that owners really end up loving them once they own them.

    I have the hatchback, it is lighter. However, I do not find the engine underpowered at all. Normally, I never exceed 2,000 rpm in my CVT Mirage (not even when accelerating) and that is the way it should be driven. So the engine has LOTS in reserve if need be.The CVT finds the torque for you. I just cruise along NOT slower than other traffic. With that, I get an average fuel consumption of 52 mpg over 30K miles in a cold densely populated area. Why do car testers think we want to be racing drivers?

      Very few really get how the CVT should be driven and accelerating it to only 2K rpm is how I myself found the sweet spot for my Mirage. Once you accept and work with the car and dont try to make it do what it cant you find you have a vehicle that gets around just fine and is probably the most reliable car built today. Props for mentioning how to drive the CVT as it should be driven!

    It's not pretending to be anything else other than a budget friendly economy car with some surprisingly nice creature comforts. My Mirage is saving me a lot of money. Gas, insurance, no repair costs (great warranty). Mitsubishi is underrated. More people should give them a look. I wouldn't consider the Mirage without deep discounts though. I think the sticker price is crazy high. Much nicer subcompacts out there for similar money.

      @stevensmith8648 3 роки тому

      A few out there.Not much.A Spark LT or 2LT , The others are the Versa S, Hyundai Accent and Kia Rios S and they're compact cars.If you can get a Corolla for under 18k grab it!.I'm talking $18k for all which is the same price for a SE Mirage.And most you can get incentives n rebates to make it lower.If Hyundai, Kia Toyota and Nissan can do that jump on it!

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 3 роки тому

      @@stevensmith8648 It entirely depends on manufacturer discounts. It can affect purchase price immensely. I was looking to buy a new car in 2018. I wanted another Mirage to replace my 2014, but my local Mitsu dealers were asking near MSRP and the trim I wanted was going to be almost $18k. Way too much money! Hyundai was offering HUGE discounts. So I was able to step up to a much nicer Elantra for under $17k. It's actually turned out to be just as fuel-efficient as my 2014 Mirage with literally twice the power. Maintenance costs are lower too. It pays to shop around. I would have been a fool to buy the Mirage instead.

    It's ridiculous how people talk about an engine that isn't able to bolt out into traffic only to need gassing up a mile down the road because it gulps gas! I am so sick of these $50,000 to $80,000 cars bragging about the piddly 360 hp or whatever 600 hp who cares! You can't enjoy any of those hot rods anyway because as soon as you get on it Mr. War Pig is there to punish you with points and money removed from your wallet or purse! The Mirage brings back the good old days when people appreciated fine craftsmanship and frugality! Little engines are really cool and sound neat! I love them! If some people want and can purchase a tank to cruise the roads with , we'll let them! But I thank the engineers at Mitsubishi for designing such a great car that your average butt busting American can afford when we get paid at most one third of what we need per week to live working two jobs! The Mirage is a beautiful well built small car for us hard working underpaid citizens! Let the stingy elite drive their 4 ton tanks with evil smirks on their faces! I will smile back with a grin of joy from ear to ear because I am driving a car that rarely ever has to visit the gas pump, a car that rides well and has plenty of pep if you know how to drive, and a wonderful car for 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle they are driving and a car that practically will never have to make an appointment at the maintenance shop! Great car Mitsubishi! I love mine and there isn't another car I would rather drive!!

It is very reliable and cheap to operate yet comes with power equipment and a decent stereo on base model. And at least Mitsubishi was smart enough not to use touch screen slide for heat a/c like Honda did. Honda also has CVT but doesnt have drivers knee airbag like this Mitsubishi.

Many people trade used cars due to an issue. I know first hand because we traded a 2010 Kia Soul that had 12,000 miles on it due to an issue with a clunking suspension they could not resolve so someone who purchased that would be stuck with the issue.

    I have a Mirage hatchback and I think this review is overly critical of its power level. As far as noise, the car itself isn't terribly noisy, it's the factory tires which generate a lot of noise, if you drive it on a variety of pavement surfaces you'll realize that. The review also doesn't mention they ride fairly well. Take this from someone who regularly drives much larger cars like a Grand Marquis and a Fusion. I actually think the Mirage is a much better driving experience than the Ford Focus.

    Mine has like this other gear I forget what it's called but its used to beef up take off. Iv had mine since November & I honest love it. No major problems with it as of "yet" I keep my oil changed & plan to do a fule system treatment soon. The only down side is the space. It's perfect for me but I have 2 young children. The gas mileage is AWESOME. However I do plan at a later time to get something a bit more spacious. I'm in LOVE with the Mitsubishi outlander. I can without a doubt say I will miss it when I do trade it in. I don't understand all the hate about this car tho. It's really a great car.

The 2017 G4 has beefed up struts so the car doesn't bottom out like the 2014 Mirage. I can say that I enjoy my 2017 G4 SE Model. it is more than what I want for an inner city car. Much quieter than 2014 Mirage and it has great pick up to merge in the Houston traffic.

It looks way better than the Versa, and the hatch looks really nice for a cheap little run-about. I'm bummed to hear your average fuel economy was only in the low 30's! • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому +5

      I kinda agree, but I was speaking in terms of apples and oranges. When anyone says well a turbo charged $5000 more car is better.. well, YAH. Or, a Hybrid car a whole bump up in class even more money than that.. it is is not a fair comparison. For someone willing to fork 10-12 grand on a car, and they want something new.. the Mirage really is not a bad car. The reliability has been great. They get very good gas mileage and are easy to park, turn, etc. But I "personally" would buy a used 3 year old Spark EV for 12k any day over any of these. Subjective. All the same, these cars are NOT penalty boxes. They are full of features and have a comfortable ride. I drove the 5 speed and it had plenty of get up and go. He must be driving like a Bat our of Hell.. 33 mpg? Our new Forester gets 29 driving mixed without punching it. Wow.. on a Subcompact.. even heated seats are available? That's, to me.. kinda Fancy.

    I had a 1 liter turbo 3 cylinder Chevrolet Sprint Turbo. It was quick, reliable, and efficient. Sold it in 2010 with 198k for double what I paid in 1992 used with 117k miles. They should offer a turbo intercooled model. It weighed 1770 lbs and moved quick.
    You will only get 33 mpg if you drive way too aggressive in this car, or over 55-60 on the freeway. Drive it efficiently; and it will be good to you.
    I test drove a 2015 model and it was fine. Of course, I drove the 5 speed stick. I liked it fine. Power was decent.
    14 grand is too much, btw. You can get these under 12 grand DE trim. I would get a higher end car for a little more if it was 14 grand.
    17 grand is INSANE. Don't buy this car if you want to spend that. Get a new Forester for 20 grand, or just go Base on a economy car like this.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому

      I know someone who paid $12,900 recently for the G4 SE. That is still 15 grand? I can get a Subaru Impreza for $16,700. I just saw a brand new Mitsubishi Lancer for $14,000. They come standard with a lot of features and have a peppy 2 liter engine. Still a hefty amount for a econo car. Nothing against your loaded car, it is a lot in terms of intended purpose of the car. I might consider a $14,000 Nissan Versa Note SV if spending more for some features was desirable, but I would more likely jump up to a $17,000 well equipped standard Honda Fit LX. If I bought a Mirage, it would need to either be a sweet deal on the G4 SE under 13 grand, or a standard model under $11,000 for the standard one. The Metros were great easy cars to maintain, I think the Mirage will be similar in terms of ease of maintenance and repair. I just wonder if Mitsubishi will remain selling cars here for very long.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому

      You paid over15 grand for a Mirage. I know a mid grade Versa would be less money. Regardless, I like the Mirage. Could never get myself to pay 15 grand for a 3 cyl econobox with 78 hp, and would do whatever it takes to get it below 11 grand, but all the same.. they are good cars. The Lancer is a huge jump up in class, performance, drivability. I would lose Apple Car Play for the other attributes. I would still chose it if it had no power options at all.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому

      I would not buy a CVT in a cheap car, further adding to cost and complication to a econo box. The only Versa I "Might" consider (as I am no Nissan Fan) is the base 'S" model with 5 speed manual discounted below 10 grand. Econo Car Pricing. But yeah, I heard about the CVT having issues. In a Mitsubishi Mirage it makes it less fun and flexible, too.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому

      I drove the 5 speed and thought it was just fine. I would stick with the 5 speed in a little car, unless I had a lot of traffic (I still would likely go stick, actually). Yes, the steering was numb as can be, but I thought it was a perfectly decent little car. It was the 2015 new at a dealer, great car for $9700. I might pick up a under 20k mile one for 6 grand soon. Wait, did you say the trunk model was stuffer? I know in the Versa the reaction is the Note was a nicer driver with the hatch? I prefer hatchbacks, I love the versatility. The Versa had such cheap controls. I did prefer the ones in the Mirage. I would be concerned with long term reliability of all the digital stuff. I keep cars 20+ years.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 7 років тому

      Not too switch gears, I also drove the i-miev. I wanted it BAD. They had a used 2012 at the dealer 2 years ago for 7 grand with only 12,000 miles. I thought I could see myself with that car. No more tune ups, no more oil changes, no more gas.. great when it hits $4+ a gallon again, too. IF I decide to sell my 92 VW GTI, I am considering an electric car. But I can and have been biking everywhere for 10 years now.

      The CVT7 is very reliable, considering the low curb weight and low torque. Its bigger cars that have issues with the CVT.

    I’m seeing this same car at a local dealer but no review or screen for the radio?

    Is this based on a Versa? It does look better but 17k is a lot for this even if it does have auto climate etc

    The old Mirage was a much superior car, many still going strong after 16 yrs since they were last made. This thing doesn't even deserve to carry that name.

    78 go paired to a CVT?
    I remember when I was looking to replace my 02 Saturn Sl I test drove a 100 go Chevrolet Spark with a CVT and it was noticeably slower than the half dead Saturn.
    Long story short I ended up buying a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor instead

      @@everymandriver Can you comment on the Mirage bucking the trend and selling alot more of these rides than even Mitsubishi projected?

    Mirage is really nice car Its a little dicey at higher speeds on wet roads or high winds so be careful then. BUUUUUT it gets 40 mpg all the time and often gets up to 52 mpg with the 5 speed stick.

    5 speed is 1000% quieter and smoother
