That two small hops part is kind of confusing because even as I'm watching the slowmo part, it looks like it's not really two hops but one hop and then there's a one count before the bigger hop. After that small hop, your feet remain on the ground for the stall part and then you hop again for the open. Am I wrong?
In southpaw he only jumps once each time he opens it and is doing it fast enough that the side swings go "under" as he lands, making it look kind of like a pseudo side swing double under.
This move is brilliant, I cracked the timing after 30 mins and spent the next 30 mins improving and stared to become quite smooth, my form started to suffer as I tired though.
So cool, I have not done it in years. I feel excited to jumrope again, I stopped right before I got pregnant, a couple of years ago. My dad was a boxer and thought me how when I was a kid. It is a great stress reliever too.
I don’t know what it is about this video but it finally clicked and I finally was able to do it without my rope tangling. Thank you! I’m slow at it but super excited to get my muscle memory together and increase my speed!
learning this technique wasn’t difficult in terms of rope work and technique but it just felt really weird cause of the hand placements of the side swing and the hop timings. haha fun skip though
I don't do big jumps. Instead I spin the rope faster when I open. The way I see it, you have to travel more distance to bring the rope in the center, so I flick the rope faster to compensate for that. You just jump higher. I guess it's the same outcome.
how i see it i count is 1 Lside hop 2 under jump 1 Rside hop 2 under jump 1Lside hop 2 under jump 1 Rside hop but as i listen to your explanation the 1 1 2 is your rhythm count not ours that is how i interpreted it that how it works for you but somehow along the video ending i start seeing like twice hops sides and one under xD my eyes confused me xD thank you as always
Im just getting back into JUMP ROPE after 20 years or more. My calves have zero endurance. Im lucky if I can jump more than five minutes wothout my legs feeling incredibly fatigued
Really appreciated this breakdown. It’s a move that ‘looks’ Simple but it’s really not! You’re awesome. Thanks for helping me try to build muscle memory!
what..where is the 2nd small hop wtf Edit: i don't think there IS a 2nd small hop. The guy in the video was just too embarassed to admit it after he first said it probably. But because of that the move seems more complicated than it really is.. it's not even a difficult move. I actually can't believe he kept saying it lol

nope, you're not, I noticed he hops only twice, too

Thanks for changing my life and helping me to start my fitness journey.
LOVE hearing this!!
I just started thinking about the Southpaw movie yesterday now I definitely have to try this
Perfect timing! Give it a try, let us know how it goes!

Awesome! Love to hear that! Keep at it, it'll get smoother the more you do it!
Well Gyllenhaal and Dan both are my favourites! 🙌
😎😎 Thanks brother!
Great movie (Southpaw). Didn't watch it until this year. Haha. Love jumping rope.
Tbh this movie is why I started jump rope.

man this move is STILL kicking my entire a***! I can't get it down!

Awesome!! So happy to hear that!!
I've been doing this move since the 6th grade I never knew it was that difficult
I started last year after watching the video from Rush Athletics. He explained it best for me. Peace!
You’re lucky

This was good and I will try it
You finally got it down, Dan!!! Congrats, brother!
This is a great trick for begginers looks awesome and you can get it fairly quick

Thank you very much for showing us the proper way how to use the rope
I will learn this, thanks
Love from Assam, India
It’s best to jump rope on a mat, was jump rope without one shin started to hurt, now I use a yoga mat
I’m fixing to scoop some merch from you guys. Do your shirts shrink up after wash/dry?
Nope, not much at all! True to size!
Could easily do left over right, but my right over left decides to do something completely different, and not in a good way. 😅
It's totally normal to have a weaker side! Keep drilling it - the muscle memory will kick in!
I wanna buy the jumping rope but I can't afford im from Philippines watching you bro
I hear ya, you don't have to buy my rope. use any rope you can and keep doing the thing and watching the vids! 🙏🏽
Thank you!! Your tutorial is awesome! I finally got south paw down!!! #dothething
That's what I like to hear!

This is my favourite move when I am jumping
It's a good one!
I confused how to open the rope
PHENOMENAL!!!!!
Awesome
Just what I wanted
Awesome!

5 minutes of 30 second on/off intervals is exactly where you want to start!
Whenever i try this the rope gets tangles
maybe i just need to practice this more .
Keep practicing and remember to extend that swinging arm PAST the other. This will help with the tangling issue!

You're 100% right! Looks easy, but in reality quite difficult! Let us know when you get it!
Hello!☘️🙃
I'm not there yet, but I will be in time. #dothething #Dantheman

This is not the same move Jake’s doing. He pass from a side tho the other without doing a basic jump in the middle
He's actually doing a southpaw double under - this tutorial is for the single! Look for the double under SP tutorial in the future!
1st to watch
