I have a couple coins for you to look at. How can i make that happen? One is an 1897 "1in the neck" the other is a 1943 d but appears to be an rpm and repunched dated , and a liberty nickel in beautiful condition but it has no nickel at all, it looks as if its struck all in copper.

I truly believe that as coin collectors, we should ban together to promote ANACS!! NGC and PCGS have got way too much "pull" within the industry!! ANACS is affordable and their submission paperwork/process is simple!! The two big grading companies seem to prefer large lots of coins submitted to them by nationally known dealers and not the "little guy" (who might only have 5-8 coins per submission), their submission process is beyond confusing, and the annual membership fee is nothing more than a tax write-off for the big dealers. ANACS has actually been around since the 1970's, has beautiful coin holders and seems to be the company who caters to coin collectors!!

B-Man , I agree. I also don’t believe that everyone PSGS has on staff is worthy of grading. They said my 1910-S wasn’t gradable because of its color and that it had been polished. It had some toning to it, but that’s because it was in a paper envelope for years. I spent $50 bucks for nothing. I tried talking to them, but got nowhere. I have had the penny for over 40 years. It was like new when I got it, and it was never messed with. But, they are the “professionals” and I’m the idiot.

ANACS is not Started To Slab Coins But Accugrade in 1984 follow by PCGS in 1986 after owner Dave Hall paid 💯 K for his expertise and is PATENT then in 1987 NGC is the Third Coin Grading Company!

You have no idea the" positive " that you are doing, thanks again. Troy

I would say the biggest thing that you didnt mention is that you need to develop the ability to somewhat acurately determine a coins grade. You are spot on with what you said but if you cant tell a MS67 worth $30 from a MS68 worth $200 you cant know what to send away. Trial and error is the only way to develop those skills. Accept the fact that you will have to spend some money on coins you prob shouldnt have sent away in order to see how things grade out. If the hobby is something you will be serious about going forward the information you gain will be worth that money ao it wont be wasted in the end.

    • @sparkyjones560
      @sparkyjones560 6 років тому

JPopp 9 no. Trial and error is the only way but it doesn't have to cost you.
You can learn everything you can on how to grade different coins. And you can join a club and work on grading with others in the club, and get others points of view, same way a grading company does, a couple opinions to make a final determination.
And even the grading companies can and are wrong. Otherwise you wouldn't get better or worse grades after resubmitting. What may be MS69 to you may be MS65 to me and visaversa. It's all subjective which is why it's always said to "buy the coin, not the holder or the grade"
Coin grading companies are like a 3rd party making a determination, it's their opinion, not fact. They try to be as accurate as possible but they make mistakes grading too.

Thanks for another great video Dustin, I believe you have answered a lot of questions new collectors might have about whether or not a coin should be sent for grading, and the last little bit about personal preference was a good tip as well.

Thank you for all your help and love the research!, more people should realize their brains are just like any other muscle-if you don't work it~it will just go away!! Thanks again Dustin-👍🙃💪-🍀-🤑

Nice video. BUT, I think the real issue is from new comers such as myself that don't know the actual value of the coin in their hand. So an example is, I found a 69-S that I don't know if it's machine doubling? Not worth alot, or a true double die? Worth thousands. How would we get better at telling the value of what we have before us???

You actually have to learn how to make that determination accurately before you go and submit.
If you have the cash to gamble go ahead and send it in and let them tell you if it is or isn't.
There's plenty of information out there with some research and review to compare what you have against it to feel confident on what you have before wasting the money on grading.

Hey Dustin- LOVE your channel!! Been a longtime fan!👍👍 THANKS for always putting out SUPER GREAT videos too, which are so informative and helpful!!
My grandmother retired from a bank and she started a collection for me before I was even born. So, I've been a collector for over 40 years now! Yet, I've never sent off a coin to have it graded. Hence, I've got some questions that I need the answers to, in order to understand anything about the value of collecting and grading, but I'm just clueless!!...
    Should you ever breakdown or
    open-up a proof set/mint set?? When/why??
Are they as valuable once opened or does that depreciate them immediately??
What is more valuable: a proof set or a mint set??
And where are "uncirculated" coins found, if they aren't the coin sets that come straight out of the mint???
    Please HELP!!!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us newbies. Coin grading can be expensive some people trust dealers but since I do not know them well my family feels that they can't be trusted with valuable coins and does not recommend others to submit them. I not saying all are not honest but are they safe what guarantee can dealers provided to make sure your coins are going to be submitted and not lost? Also, any advice for people that find error coins and don't find any information regarding the error on eBay, coin books or online what other options do they have to find if the coin is valuable or not.? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

"For me", I grade conservatively and when I send in a coin to be graded, after fees the value must be at least two times the fee. Last time I sent in 4-1936 and 5-1937 Lincoln cents, all of them except two come back MS66, the other two came back MS-67. Thanks for watching.

What about the 2009 series Lincoln cents? I see some are worth very good money in MS67 and 68. I have uncirculated rolls of 2009 p & d "Professional Life" and "Presidency" pennies. They are untouched rolls (4 total) sealed from the U.S. Mint. Do you think it would be worth it to crack these open and see if there may be some MS67s or 68s in them. The value on them is quite high on PCGS. Any friendly advice would be great. Thanks! Great and informative video!

Hi, I have been collecting for years and this year I would like to put some coins in an auction. I have a 1937 buffalo nickle that is flawless but it has a blackened color to it. I want to have it graded because of the detail that is on it. Looks uncirculated but heritage said it is common. I also have a 1954 clean uncirculated bright shinny red and I believe it has dd on it. I believe this penny is an ms 70. Should I send them in for grading?

Hi. So, is ebay the only real place to look for coins' actual prices? And if a coin was sold for over a $100 there, then it is worth grading it? Just want to make sure I understood right. How can i make sure if the coin, I suspect to be an error coin, is actually what i believe it is? I am new to this and there are already many Luncoln penny coins, i believe to have some kind of die or planchet errors. Is it possible to find many error coins, if you started coin searching just a couple of months ago? Maybe, I just want to believe theyre error ones?

    • @lisac.4094

Alex Bell that's the same problem I'm exp. My mom started saving coins right after i was born, then after few yrs, i developd intrst in the wheat penny's, also anything old or odd, all went into a big piggy bank that i lugged with me for ( yikes! gonna expose my age now), 54 yrs. All the while adding to it. Finally opened it last yr.
Yep, it's taken me yr to separ it all & still needs a lot of work. I've really dev an int in coin collectng, but hadn't started learning yet (until i had coins in front of me). Wow, u talk about overwhelming!! I honestly had no idea the magnitude of info that was out there that i had to learn if i wanted to follow thru on sumthng that was started sooo many yrs ago. So, i hav spent this past yr, self teaching by means of utube, coin ops & Dustin was the very 1st ch i sub to. Watch couple other ones, but i go to the sites on the net they rcmmnd, buy the mags when i c them, & just read & watch. I used to hav coin guy near where i live, but of course he moved last yr, so i haven't had anyone in person that i could go to that could help me further. That is what i so desp need right now. U can watch vids every day (like i hav), but that really only teaches u so much. I have so many quest & I really need someone who can verify or not what I'm actually looking at. Sure it's obv when someone points out a dd on vid, but not all coins r gonna b that clear cut, & in my case i need someone, in person, who can tell me yes or no, & why it isn't it. It can b extremely confusing! For me anyway. Esp wth the amt of coins i hav. My big questns r, for ex., the rpm's, war time nickels, all the Wheaties that r about in perfect cond, stalks, etc early 1900's, r they worth grading ( no way i could afford to send them all in), but we keep being shown vids, what all this pckt chng could b worth $8-up etc., But if it doesn't look exactly like the pic we're shown, but looks More, than Not like it, how much shld we ask for it & where do we sell it? Keep hearing bout people who collect spec coins. How do we target them? Then what happens if we sell to them, then come to find out (frm them), really wasn't what we thought it was. Then we develop bad rep & destroy any confidence we may have had in ourselves! Uuugghhh!!!
I have also looked for any clubs or groups, anything in my area, & sadly there r none, sooo. I really don't want to say the heck with it all & start spending cause I've really dev passion for it. And heck, what if i do have a big ole money maker here? Defin don't want to b passing it off at my local walm, lol, esp when I'm in need of it ($). Was really hoping i could sell & make enough to buy new hip I've been needing for 2 yrs now. Cant put much, well none aside when ur on disability. That was the reason for finally breaking into mr. Piggy last yr.
Sorry for being so long winded, but it really is aggrav to hav spent so much time (evry singl day for yr), learning everythng poss (the basics), just to hit deadend & b stuck there.
If anyone knows of any groups/clubs in MO, pls reach out. Could really use the help. Thx & good luck to anyone who may b in similar situation. Thx coin comm & Alex for letting me vent! I hav become a comment reading junkie, 😁 so to all of u who hav shared ur knowledge here, i thank u & give u, dustin & few others all the credit for teaching this ole dog some new tricks! Take care✌

When I send for grading and I already know that I want it to be auctioned How is that done? When I send it off to PCGS is there a process that I should follow to do it at a cost effective level?

Dear coin op I sent a coin to PCGS to be graded and they sent me a different coin back I have pictures and they still are lying about my coin so I don't trust them

Human error happens in anything, but their process of handling coins is so strictly conducted, I find it very hard to believe they accidentally sent you a different coin than the one you submitted. Furthermore, I seriously doubt that any of those working for such a reputable grading company would jeopardize their job, just to switch coins on you. Let me guess, I suppose you sent them an MS 70 1955 doubled die penny or some similar rarity, right?

Hey Dustin or anyone, what do i do if I find 2 (small date) 1982-D copper pennies both weighing 3.1Grams?

      Shelena Tate
      The 1982 cents
      The 7 Business Strike Varieties:
      1982 Large Date Copper
1982 Large Date Copper plated Zinc
      1982 Small Date Copper
1982 Small Date Copper plated Zinc
      1982 D Large Date Copper
1982 D Large Date Copper plated Zinc
1982 D Small Date Copper plated Zinc
If you feel confident your scale is 100% accurate and couldn't be off by a half gram, and that it is in fact sm date, and not a misidentified large date, you should send it for grading and show the world it exists.
There's been literally 1 ever authenticated to be found. The Denver mint confirmed a long time ago they never intended to make the small date copper. The one that was found was likely a complete error where a single planchet of copper got stuck somewhere in production and slipped through.
If you think it is, you should get it graded it would be worth it.

So then , even though he has a voice as pleasant and honest sounding as Bob Ross (the PBS tv painter guy) or Mr. Rogers , (no introduction necessary) , the man on the JBSCoins videos is lying through his teeth ?
"So , ALWAYS , check your change . You could have a coin that could-change-your-life". But what about , say , all the coins on Shawn's Monday Market Report ? Many of those have gone for big money but are not of the highest grade in any given mintage or year . I'm sooo confused ! No , really , I am .
