      I have a question for you: I just got new rabbits, a male and a female, not spayed and neutered because I wanted to breed them. Right now they are living in the same hutch..is that ok? The female doesn't seem to like it very much. And if I can keep them in the same cage for now, should they be separated for sure once I know she's pregnant?

    Great idea. Just a tip, white PVC is not UV stable and will crack in ten years, to extend the life spray paint it and it will last much longer!

      Also releases carcinogens........you can also use Schedule 80 to make it last longer. Still not great for us or the environment. But, hard to find alternatives

    Thank you. I just recently bought two as well.
    Unfortunately, the pros aren't available to install gutters, let alone a rwhs.
    But before I do that, I have to raise a 1200g. cistern that is half buried to be about 3' above grade ( to be at same elevation as the jet pump in the house).
    I'll have to dig that one out, transfer its water into a different tank, remove the cistern, backfill, then build something(?) sturdy enough to hold and insulate the 1200g water tank.
    Then I can get back to where I left off with the RWHS.
    Big help here.

      You could still install gutters yourself, you just may not be able to get seamless type. How do plan to raise your cistern?!! And what's this cistern made of?!

    • @rojerww
      @rojerww 2 роки тому +1

      @@reneepuvvada I did install my own gutters. The only ones I could find had stickers about toxins. The rooflines were anything but straight and level to start with. The hangers were difficult to deal with. The end results were less than appealing. My ladder sunk into the soil but I wasn’t injured. But - I got enough of it done and it does work. My polypropylene storage tank does collect some of the water that falls on my rooftops. 🥳
      I have my main tank on a layer of cinder blocks layer on their side for maximum surface are.

    I’m so interested. I have a broken gutter and last time it rained I had the inclination to stick and old garbage can under it, I was amazed how fast that can filled up, that I told me husband we are doing it all wrong! Even in suburban NY. IDK what our rain harvesting laws are but if they are non existent I wanna start harvesting some dang water!!!

    Great video y'all! What are your thoughts on doing this on a shingled roof?

    • @BetterTogetherLife
      @BetterTogetherLife  3 роки тому +1

      Well, shingled roof is usually not the best. Because it does break apart over time and you’ll get shingle particles in your tank. So you have to filter and really focus on keeping the tanks clean.
      Which is why a metal roof is preferred for rainwater harvesting.

  • @howdyshaun6139

    So the 25000-gallon tank we are getting is perhaps a little too much? :D lol too dry here in Australia not to maximise every drop and collect it all to ensure we make it through summer. THe place is shaping up nicely.

    • @BetterTogetherLife

      Surprisingly well. We were in below freezing temps for just about a week. Our only casualty was a connection between the two tanks. If someone were to wrap that section, they should have no problem.

    How often does the drip irrigation malfunction? Get clogged? I need to consider it for my large garden.

    • @BetterTogetherLife
      @BetterTogetherLife  3 роки тому +1

      We haven’t had any problems. We do mulch our beds. So if there were an issue with clogging, I assume the mulch would help prevent any mud building up at the drips sites.

    • @BetterTogetherLife

    Can you do one on how to buy cheap land in TX?

    • @BetterTogetherLife
      @BetterTogetherLife  3 роки тому +1

      Oooooooo, nope. So so sorry. 😞
      But unfortunately I can no longer recommend Texas for affordable land. All of California and China are coming in and buying up the land. No joke!
      It’s not bad for people that already own land, but for those that need to buy…… it is overpriced.
      I probably would be looking at Florida and Tennessee. But Florida is expensive now also.

  • @puirYorick

    I'm always puzzled why anyone would forego half their potential roof collection area or most of it's potential since that mini tank is far below what that huge roof area could service.

    • @BetterTogetherLife
      @BetterTogetherLife  3 роки тому

      We aren’t foregoing it. Just haven’t fully finished the design.
      Our back porch is way more catchment than we need for the 5000 gallons.
      When we decide to expand, we’ll go ahead and connect some of the front.

    • @puirYorick
      @puirYorick 3 роки тому

      @@BetterTogetherLife I guess the extra PVC piping to connect both roof halves to your big tanks must have been too costly.

    • @BetterTogetherLife
      @BetterTogetherLife  3 роки тому

      Well, too costly for both money AND TIME. With out a huge benefit really. We measure projects based off of ROI. Return On Investment.
      The return of “more water” wasn’t worth it because all of that water was going to be sent out in the overflow anyway.
      The ROI would be greater IF:
      1) we were using the water for indoor use.
      2) we had an extra 5000 gallons.
