  • If you're looking to study medical coding and want to know what the BEST books are, let me tell you my recommendations!
    Note: During this video I talked about the TCI version of HCPCS for the COC exam, but they are no longer publishing this version as they've further merged into AAPC (they're from the same parent company). It appears the AAPC version does have the payment status indicators, and I will link that below.
    *UPDATE** Per an update on the AHIMA approved book listing effective 8/1/21, AAPC books are approved for AHIMA examinations.
    Pro fee & Outpatient coding: ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, CPT
    Inpatient Coding: ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS

      @@ContempoCoding I just received my 2022 AAPC version and unfortunately it doesn’t have the guidelines in the front of each chapter :( but that’s what made me interested in the DH version because it has the guidelines within the code(s) it applies to in the tabular section and in the front of the book. It also has has plain text definitions and coding tips within the code sections as well.

      The training book in my video just has a little bit more information in it (mostly pharmacology, which is covered in the course), but weirdly not for sale on the AAPC website. I do have the option when you purchase my course to add on the CRC study guide eBook for $60. If you want a physical copy you can get it from the AAPC website and the gold one is fine.

    I got the Bucks book bundle since you recommended it to me in a past comment I made in another video ❤ Would really appreciate knowing how to get all answers for the workbook. Also, what do you think about apps like Pocket Prep for those who are studying for thier CPC exams?

    • @QueenOfTheDamned
      @QueenOfTheDamned 3 роки тому

      It's disappointing that they don't have all the answers in the workbook. Is that also the case for the exercises in the main book?

    • @limeehermin6695
      @limeehermin6695 3 роки тому

      @@QueenOfTheDamnedYes, but unlike in the workbook where every even-numbered questions have no answer keys, the only ones affected in the main book are the chapter review questions. These are the tests that appear at the end of every chapter and all questions have no answer key. However, the other exercises sprinkled in between chapters to kinda test you on a new topic, all answer are available in the appendix.
      I hope it wouldn't discourage you though from getting the main book at least. If it's just a supplementary read to help you study then it's a great reference! Most of the questions in the main book and workbook encourage independnce in blind coding anyway (no answers to choose from). That's why I'm inquiring on Pocket Prep since it kinda solves what's lacking: multiple choice questions designed to study for CPC exams with answer keys and reference.

    • @QueenOfTheDamned
      @QueenOfTheDamned 3 роки тому

      @@limeehermin6695 Oh I was still planning to purchase the 2022 main book for step by step coding since the reviews are great and I am self studying. Now I'm not so interested in the workbook since half of those answers are missing. I totally forgot that I borrowed the 2019 edition of the main book from the library. I haven't used it yet since I'm still studying medical Terminology and A&P but just wanted to check the book out before the 2022 one comes out. I'm impressed with it and I will also be purchasing Carol Buck books for the CPT & ICD-10 books. I just love how colorful they are and the details are a nice touch. So I just checked the 2019 version and I don't see any missing answers. Is it the the Learning Objective & Glossary Review section?

    • @QueenOfTheDamned
      @QueenOfTheDamned 3 роки тому

      And this is my first time hearing about pocket prep. I looked it up and it would be nice if that had tests for medical coding.

    • @limeehermin6695
      @limeehermin6695 3 роки тому

      @@QueenOfTheDamned I have the 2021 Step-by-Step and the chapter reviews are the the end of each chapter where it has a note at the bottom saying that the answer keys are available in Evolve TEACH or something, I can't recall. As for Pocket Prep, the app has 500 study questions for the AAPC CPC exam. It's a monthly subscription though, which can get expensive so I only signed up for this month as I'm planning to take my certification at by the end of May. I really like how the app works but I'd like to get Victoria's perspective if the app itself is a good investment to really help someone for thier CPC exam.

      Depends on how much risk you want to take. There's been some significant code changes, especially with 99201-99215. You can still use the old book for the AAPC exams, but there might be a slight risk of having a couple questions that you may not answer correctly because you have an outdated book.
