If you have a look at Bricky’s Warhammer videos (Every Warhammer Faction Explained parts 1 and 2, Every Space Marine Legion Explained, and Entire Warhammer 40k Timeline), you can get a pretty good footing and understanding of the setting and such without going too deep

You speak of hearsay, someone call the inquisitor. In all seriousness I do recommend you learn about Horus Hearsay, but that is 90+ books not including the spinoffs. Grand-just of it no one mortal can accepts the gifts that choas brings, not even the grand emperor, or omnissiah. To speak such hearsay though will require exterminatus for they attain more power and entrances the more you speak of them.
