Ramona The Brave got me through a horrible divorce with my parents when I was 9. My mother was horrible and abusive but I would go into my room and read this book. I read it over and over and over again. I pretended to be Ramona so I could escape from my life at the time. My heart still warms for Ramona, all these years later, I am now 53 and still remember what a thrill I got out of reading this book. Thank you, Beverly, thank you for saving me when I needed it the most.
I came here to say RIP 3/26/21. I have loved these books as a youth. I couldn’t wait to tell my daughters about them. They are now adults and they fell in love with your books as well. Thank You.
I am a black woman from New Orleans. My great grandma had these books in her library and because she was a teacher, I was exposed to Oregon outside of my urban experience. It also influenced my decision to be an English teacher. The vocabulary in the books expanded my personal experiences. I read her books voraciously. Currently our vocabulary and comprehension has been “dumbed down” a lot...
I was also really surprised when I first found out just how old Beverly Cleary was! Beverly had a great-granchild by the way! I liked Mitch and Amy as well, but I much preferred the Henry Huggins and Ramona Quimby series! I liked her series, better than her individual books
I’m so happy for her that she’s having such a long life, and she’s still going strong today at 104! Her books brought me so much happiness during my childhood and I owe her a lot for that.
She will be missed RIP Beverly Cleary thank you for the memories and I will always remember all your books that you wrote so thank you and good bye good luck in heaven.
Henry, Beezus, Ribsy, Otis Spofford, Ellen Tibbets.......wow, came back to me just like that. She passed March 25, 2021. I haven't thought of those stories for a very, very long time, but I do remember having enjoyed them when I was a kid.
I grew up reading Romana and beezus books. I would just sit by myself and read and read and read. I could relate to having the big imagination of Romana and everyone calling me weird because of it. But I never faltered. I still have the same sense of imagination today at 20. Plus I saw the romana and beezus movie with Joey King and Selena Gomez and I loved it.
Honey, keep it up. I was inspired back in 1979 by her. It made me want to be strong. It made me want to be brave like Ramona was. Keep your chin up and don't give up. Beverly would say the same.....
I wouldn't be surprised if Beverly Cleary turns to 104 or even 108. I would be a bit surprised if she lives to 111. I would be surprised if she makes it to 117 years young.
She's 103 now, and according to actuarial statistics, she has about a 50% chance of living one more year. So she has a 50% chance of being 104, a 25% chance of living to 105, etc.
I love ramona forever that is my favorite book i am happy that she turned 100 but i am in 2021 so i am so sad she died she was my favorite author and i am sad she is gone.I love u Beverly cleary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on monday we are doing d.e.a.r day on to thank you i am so greatful i thought i would never find the right book but when u came into my life i knew that your books had changed my life forever i like to read at the park, school, in my bed,and on the couch aagin thank you u changed my life!!!!
It's great she is still alive but that is so crazy she is 102 and still living! I loved the Ramona books as a kid and I love that she is still alive and well.
I loved her books growing up my teachers used to read the stories to us thanks mrs cleary for the good childrens books that also keep my generation busy 1980s may u have a restful peace u will be truly missed
I loooooved Dear Mr. Henshaw , read it aloud to my classes. You inspired all young readers,. Happy. birthday! FYI. When asked when is your birthday, say the month & day. Then when asked "What year? " , you can reply, EVERY YEAR! ( it works!).
I just watched this clip (because of Beverly Cleary's passing) and Matt Lauer's comment jumped out at me too-he's such a fake. Of course those books were around when he was a kid!
Matt Lauer is incorrect. Cleary published her first book, "Henry Huggins," in 1950, had published eight books before Matt was born, and had published more than 20 books by the time Matt was seven years old, including "The Mouse and the Motorcycle."
English is my second language. Can anyone help me answer my question: what’s author’s purpose the book Ramona Quimby, Age 8? I’m not sure it’s entertained or pursues, I know it’s not to inform. Thanks a lot.

Oh yes love her and her books. Brings back childhood memories
She lived 4 more years and was close to her 105th year
RIP
I was reading books before I knew of her, but her books definitely helped me become more of an avid reader at a young age.
RIP Ms. Cleary. Thank you for the wonderful literary adventures!

RIP. Beverly Cleary I loved all her her books she will never be forgotten
I loved the Henry Huggins series! Otis Spofford was great as well, wish more books were written about him!
I liked Mitch and Amy as a kid.
I can't believe Beverly Cleary is a centenarian. She makes a wonderful grandma or great-grandma!
I was also really surprised when I first found out just how old Beverly Cleary was! Beverly had a great-granchild by the way!
I liked Mitch and Amy as well, but I much preferred the Henry Huggins and Ramona Quimby series! I liked her series, better than her individual books

Happy 102nd Birthday Beverly!
I’m so happy for her that she’s having such a long life, and she’s still going strong today at 104! Her books brought me so much happiness during my childhood and I owe her a lot for that.
0:32 that sudden change of expression
She could've been in a bad mood, but more than likely she just hates her job.
Why keep doing something you hate?
SASSY!!!!!
She thought the camera was off, probably. People don't always want to smile, doesn't mean anything.
I came here for Beverly Cleary’s 104th!
She’s still alive.
@@PungiFungi yup! impressive. especially considering the pandemic.
Wonder how much longer she's going to live!!

HAPPY 101TH BIRTHDAY BEVERLY

The charm and innocence of her books are timeless. Beverly is a true living legend, still with us at 104.

I really liked the Ramona and Henry Huggins series
Loved her books. So vivid and relevant to kids, even today! I fondly remember reading about Ramona and Beezus growing up.
What on earth happened to Jenna Bush at .32? Lousy editing on Today's part. That smile came off her face way too soon.
lol, that's one bad fake smile
Me and my sister rereads her books lots of times! Thankyou beverly.
I wouldn't be surprised if Beverly Cleary turns to 104 or even 108. I would be a bit surprised if she lives to 111. I would be surprised if she makes it to 117 years young.
Why do you say years young

If y'all haven't read her books, please go read them!! I read her books when I was a kid, and I LOVED them!!!
The books were written in the 50s, unless you're over 60 buddy, I am pretty sure they were around! Also Henry Huggins was published in 1950, not 1955.

Ribsy was the first book I ever bought from the Scholastic Book Club in the third grade.
Matt Laurer was born in 1957. Clearly published her first book in 1950. Nice research, Matt.
I think I had Ms. Cleary for the 1st Grade at Westside Elementary School in Sun Prairie Wisconsin!! Can anyone clarify.
