I know two people that did die from flipping a kayak and a canoe and they had waders on. One was in 6ft - 7ft of water in a river and one in a farm pond. 1. They had the old style waders. 2. They did not have on a life jacket. Thank you for your demonstration.
Moving water can be a very different situation. A person can flip in a kayak with a slight down current and have lots of trouble coming back. A lake is one thing and moving water is another.
What do you mean, not a good demonstration because he is wearing a life jacket. If you are out and fishing in water cold enough to wear waders you better have a life jacket on.
Very good demonstration . Shows exactly how waders will react with a pfd on . Between the 2 your going to stay up . Esp with air filling the waders . Those astral Pfds are really sweet too . I have the gray one
Thank you for posting this video. I have been looking for cold weather kayak fishing options to keep me dry on top of the water and survivable in the water. Your video makes it pretty clear that chest waders won't kill you if your kayak tips over. Funny thing is, I am doing this research to get out on SML for some striper kayak fishing action this fall!
I have done this in my pool(duck hunter) to see. But for kayakers, it’s no more expensive to get a wet suit. It’ll keep you warmer and you’ll have less issues
Wearing the pfd helps keep your neck and head above water since your feet want to rise with the air trapped in the waders. If you didn’t have pfd on your head would want to fall backwards and it makes it hard to keep your head above water. Especially if you are in current on a river where waders get used the most.
Perfect, you don't go down like a rock, but would you be able to re-enter the kayak wearing a wader? Because if you fall you must re-enter, since you probably won't fall two meters from the coast, like there. And if you fall into the sea with significant swell, re-entry would be even more difficult.
Sometimes this can go wrong if your in the middle of a lake on a boat in the deep part... Several people have died from drowning with waders where I live man it does happen
Sorry for your lost. I fear people will watch these videos and they're not getting the whole picture. 1. he has on a life jackect 2. like someone said about the under current. I'm from Virginia and the under currents in the ocean are different than the ones in the lake of Michigan where I now live.
I'm here to say always wear a life jacket. If your waiters fill up it's very hard to get out of them. Kind of like a rubber boot when you get water in them.
I think it would be different if you walked into the water and let them fill up with water, it kinda looked like they still had air in them! But im not saying you can drown from them i wouldn't know....props for gettin in that cold ass water tho
On what f****** planet is he Brave he's wearing a life jacket you dumb f***! If he wants to do a good demonstration take off the life jacket and don't jump in walk-in fill those waders to the top get that damn air pocket out of the feet and see what happens!
Waders filling with water won't make you drown! The weight of filled waders IN water, (where we are weight less) is no heavier than dry waders OUT of water. If a 15 stone person wears waders that fill with water, making his total weight 30 stone, why would he drown when a ship weighing 100 ton can float!
it's been proven over and over that new waders won't drowned you. they will make you float on your back. (without a pfd). just scroll through other videos and you'll see. it's a big question in the waterfowl community and has been debunked.
+Brian Sowerby Of course I'm wearing a PFD. I always were my PFD even in the hottest of the summer, and I am an excellent swimmer. You can drown waders or not. 95% of drowning's out on the water, that person was not wearing a PFD. You never know what can happen.
+Brian Sowerby You'd better be wearing a PFD when kayak fishing. If you don't - you are stupid, and have a death wish. BTW: When wearing waders, always wear a wide nylon belt near the top of the wader cinched down fairly snug. It almost certainly guarantees against water entering the wader. This comes from a competition fly fishing expert who has seen wading river fishermen get in trouble - requiring a life saving action from others.
waders were loos, no belt worn. And why would I do it with no life vest? Anyone that is out on the water in winter let alone any other time with a PFD is asking for trouble. It takes on one small thing to go wrong even on a good day and it can go bad quick. I work with guys who pull bodies out of the river for a living and guess what, everyone of those bodies did not have a PFD on.
@@kayaksticks8229 I'm glad you had on a pfd but I have seen a video where this guy did not have one on and demonstrating the same thing you where. It would be important for you to had mention how important it is to where on in the being of the video. Everyone is not going to where one they would assume the waders is all they need. Sad but true.
Whether or not you're able to stay afloat, there's one word not mentioned in this video... hypothermia. If the water is 55 degrees or colder and you're far away from shore, especially if alone, hypothermia will set in very quickly because you won't be able to re-enter the kayak if your waders are filled with water. Your PFD will keep you from drowning but it will not keep you from freezing. You'll experience cold shock initially. Your muscles will seize up, hypothermia will set in, and yes... you will die.

The key is to always wear a PFD!

Holy shit! He came up feet first. I thought he was done for for a quick sec there.

i would think you’d have to figure out how to take them off in the water then get in the kayak
Sometimes this can go wrong if your in the middle of a lake on a boat in the deep part... Several people have died from drowning with waders where I live man it does happen
+Stephen Mahom How many were wearing a PFD?
My uncle fell out of a boat with waiters and drowned. His filled up

Pretty sure the gut was stoping most the water from getting in

Why would i wear a PFD while fishing ?
What kinda retard goes out fishing in water deep enough to drown in without a pfd?..
Awesome.
is this in Virginia?
Yes. At Smith Mountain Lake
funny i was there a year ago. im from longisland ny.

Didn't prove or disprove anything. Try again with loose waders and no life vest and a current... and a rope and rescue team.

Try that in a river, tough guy. Stop telling people that they can’t drown in waders.
Wears a PFD......See look waders don't sink. Pfff.
