Yeah this is absolutely awesome tbf. Sounds fantastic, looks fantastic and having little to do out the box is awesome. Also those are among the best PRS pickups for me and sounded great in your setup (appreciate I’m listening through UA-cam lol)
It's far more up my alley of lower gain but really clear and warm sounding than I thought it'd be. Don't get me wrong it will still get very angry if I push the green side of the protein but I was surprised it's so articulate
it is, but so is the difference in guitar. when i compare both i have some solid advice on how i would go about doing it if i wanted one of these that makes it way more reasonable.
Congrats on your new McCarty. I have the doublecut and it feels perfect and the pickups are a joy to listen to. My first premium guitar that I will most likely pass down.
I love to read stuff like this, selfless and mindful looking towards the future but I sure hope you get some great songs out of it while you are the one in possession of it
That's definitely a hand picked top because it looks way better than most. I scope these out on Reverb all the time, but some of the really uneven flamed tops keep me from pulling the trigger.
Some nice maple on this one👌 The SE sounded good too, but something about the solid flame maple and one piece mahogany body that I really appreciate with the S2s. Now with the US pickups, perfection.
In regular use I've moved the cut knob just a bit on the amp to let me high end through but that alone made all the difference. I'm normally not the biggest fan of PRS pickups as a whole outside of the 57/08 but these are a perfect fit for this guitar
That looks and sounds great, but at three times the price of the SE, I'm looking forward to your comparison video. I was just thinking about how I'd justify that price difference, but often, the answer is 'because I want it', and that's usually enough for me. By the way, yes, I did get the Cherry Red one, and it looks amazing, that two-tone bridge really sets it off.
Man, I love that guitar - been debating on an S2 vs. SE for my ...3rd PRS (previously all SE models). Do you remember what the price was on sale? They are $2349 US @ Sweetwater right now.
It was not much less than that and you’re dead on with that being the standard pricing for them. They seem to sell out pretty quick too in the more desirable colors so there isn’t a ton of incentive for them to discount them as they do with SE guitars
They are compared to a few years ago, but I actually started to really think about it and compare with what Fender and Gibson offer at the same prices with questionable at best quality control and it makes it a much easier pill to swallow. The good news is used these are significantly cheaper, and they do pop up on a regular basis
I couldn't tell where the guitar was, as it camouflaged with your shirt so well. This is where orange knobs would have helped. But I can't stand PRS and their orange knobs. :D
@@AudiomoMusic I exaggerate when I say I can't stand PRS, they're great sounding guitars. It really is an aesthetics thing with me and their instruments. I rarely like their shapes. But I am NOT exaggerating about that orange knob thing. I would complain to them about it if I knew it would do any good 🤪
Sweet guitar but I think I’m going to be that guy who says for the exact price you can get a great LP right? I have the SE of this guitar. You recommend it over a LP? Just curious. Am I really paying for the name with Gibson?
I honestly don't look at any of the 594 as a direct apples to apples substitute to a les paul. They will always no matter what play and sound a little differently because of the necks and radius and hardware. I would definitely recommend going with a PRS over a Gibson unless you are dead set on getting THE les paul sound. For everything else I prefer the PRS because it has many amazing voices and a feel of its own.
yeap have the same guitar but the grey radius is i think 10 or 10.5 it did come with the action up high had to get the nut done i dunno why but these past couple years it can be any brand the low E is outta tune when you play a G chord glad it's not another vid with just distortion cranked yeah i think it's worth the price
What would your thoughts be on upgrading an SE with the USA Wiring Harness, switch and pickups? Now that you have the S2? I’ve only played 594 S2’s with the import pickups, I didn’t feel I was missing much when I got a good deal on my SE. My Core CE out played the S2, so I didn’t expect the SE to compare.
this may sound like a cop out, but the video comparison between the s2 and the SE is being posted either tomorrow or weds and I go pretty in depth into what I would do if I wanted one of these guitars and what I believe the by far best option is. Also because the neck carves are going to vary its possible you find one guitar from one line you really feel connected with regardless of where it's made - it's all a bit complicated but I personally wouldn't throw more money than the guitar itself is worth at it in upgrades in any scenario.
@ I don’t think that’s a cop out. I got a great deal on mine, I got from a pawn shop and I don’t think they knew the worth. So I can sell for more than I bought it for. I’ll wait for your video. When I last played an S2 I also played two Gibson LP standards and I preferred the S2. My Core CE is the best guitar I own, perhaps seeing how that compares to the new S2’s will help.
I have a US CE24, an SE DGT, and recently plan to get an S2 594. I like the neck of the CE and the jumbo frets on the SE DGT, but I could not find definitive information on the S2 Mccarty fret size. Could you please let me know how the fret fell compared with CE24? Thanks!
@@alanshawn3058 the necks feel quite different, I think the 594 is still a fatter neck than the DGT and the scale length makes a big difference. Frets are more like the CE I think?
Man the S2 line has come a very long way, I'm impressed!
Yeah I'm super impressed with this one, it really is a huge step up!

Great video Jim, you sounded great. That Dr. Z sounds amazing.
The Z really is the king of them all
Great choice Jim! That thing is beautiful and sounds great. Look forward to a full review/update on how you like it after you have more time with it.
Thanks man, I definitely plan on doing a follow up soon, I've been playing it pretty much nonstop ( this video was filmed almost a week ago ).
Man, that's a beautiful guitar, I bet it probably looks even better in person. It sounds awesome too
it's nothing like a les paul is the funniest part. it's totally it's own vibe.
Great playing
Thanks Steve appreciate it
Sounds excellent and the look and top is amazing. Sounds a bit darker than i expected but really good. What a top!

That's beautiful
Beautiful and sounds great. That is the exact guitar I want next.
I can highly recommend it 👍🏼
Beautiful beautiful guitar!!
Thanks man, this thing plays like a dream!

right???

Gorgeous guitar! They've got 'em on Daves now for $1495 :)
I linked three s2s including two of those to someone last night that I know loves PRS 👍🏼
Was it a conscious decision to wear that T-shirt Jim? When you stood up the guitar on your lap, they were almost a perfect match!! 🙂🙂🎸🎸
You give me way too much credit, I do not think that far in advance haha
It's a beautiful guitar. I checked one out, but found the neck just a little fat feeling for my smaller hands. The SE neck feels better to me.
love the S2 line. updated prices felt too steep though

those are fighting words

S2 models are very good guitars. I've had a couple and they are way better than the SE(s) I've played.
What kind of strings does it come with?
PRS 10-46 but I love the string joys

don't the new s2 have the core pickups?
Yes, I thought I mentioned it at some point in the video but they are the same 58/15LT that my core McCarty had
@AudiomoMusic I'm sure you did ..sorry. I was eating and watching. Not good at multitasking lol
